The Wall of Winnipeg and Me
The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata is a $1.99! Readers loved the slow burn between the hero and heroine, but others found it a little too slow. Zapata’s other book All Rhodes Lead Here is also on sale.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Mariana Zapata’s most beloved book, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me—now with new exclusive content!
Vanessa Mazur refuses to feel bad for quitting—she knows she’s doing the right thing. The thankless job of personal assistant to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans for her life, and none of them include washing extra-large underwear one more day for a man who could never find it in him to tell her good morning, congratulate her on a job well done, or wish her a happy birthday—even when she was spending it working for him.
The legendary “Wall of Winnipeg” may be adored by thousands, but after two years Van has had enough.
But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door begging her to come back, she’s beyond shocked. Mr. Walled-Off Emotions is actually letting his guard down for once. And she’s even more dumbstruck when he explains that her job description is about to become even more outrageous: something that takes the “personal” in personal assistant to a whole new level.
What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?

Boyfriend
Boyfriend by Sarina Bowen is $1.99! This is a new adult hockey romance that I believe was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet. It’s also the first book in the Moo U Hockey Romance series. Have you read this one? Tempted to buy it for myself.
A new hockey player to steal your heart this fall…
The dreamiest player on the Moo U hockey team hangs a flyer on the bulletin board, and I am spellbound:
Rent a boyfriend for the holiday. For $25, I will be your Thanksgiving date. I will talk hockey with your dad. I will bring your mother flowers. I will be polite, and wear a nicely ironed shirt…
Everyone knows it’s a bad idea to introduce your long-time crush to your messed-up family. But I really do need a date for Thanksgiving, even if I’m not willing to say why. So I tear his phone number off of that flyer… and accidentally entangle our star defenseman in a ruse that neither of us can easily unwind.
Who knew that Weston’s family was even nuttier than mine? He needs a date, too, for the most uncomfortable holiday engagement party ever thrown.
There will be hors d’oeuvre. There will be faked PDA. And there will be pro-level awkwardness…

How the Dukes Stole Christmas
How the Dukes Stole Christmas is $1.99! This is a historical holiday romance anthology from some major historical romance writers. Elyse reviewed this one and gave it a C. Her main critique was that the novellas felt uneven in terms of her enjoyment.
Christmas magic is in the air… From the ballrooms of London, to abandoned Scottish castles, to the snowy streets of Gilded Age New York, four bestselling authors whip up some unforgettable romance…with a little help from some enchanted shortbread.
“Meet Me in Mayfair” by Tessa Dare
Louisa Ward needs a Christmas miracle. Unless she catches a wealthy husband at the ball tonight, the horrid, heartless Duke of Thorndale will evict her family from their beloved Mayfair home. But when her friend begs to switch dance cards, Louisa finds herself waltzing with the enemy: the horrid, heartless–and unexpectedly handsome–Thorndale himself. Now the duke’s holding her future in his hands…and he’s not letting go.“The Duke of Christmas Present” by Sarah MacLean
Rich and ruthless, Eben, Duke of Allryd, has no time for holidays. Holidays are for whimsy and charm–the only two things his money cannot buy. Lady Jacqueline Mosby is full of both, even now, twelve years after she left to see the world. When Jacqueline returns for a single Christmas, Eben can’t resist the woman he never stopped loving…or the future that had once been in reach. It will take a miracle to convince her to stay…but if ever there were a time for miracles, it’s Christmas…“Heiress Alone” by Sophie Jordan
When Annis Bannister’s family leaves her behind in the rush to escape an impending snowstorm, she finds herself stranded in the Highlands, left to fend off brigands terrorizing the countryside, robbing homes locked up for winter. Her only hope falls on her neighbor, a surly hermit duke who unravels her with a look, then a kiss … until she fears the danger to her heart outweighs the danger of brigands and snowstorms.“Christmas in Central Park” by Joanna Shupe
Women all over America devour Mrs. Walker’s weekly column for recipes and advice. No one knows Rose, the column’s author, can’t even boil water. When the paper’s owner, Duke Havemeyer, insists she host a Christmas party, Rose must scramble to find a husband, an empty mansion, and a cook. But Duke is not a man easily fooled and she fears her perfect plan is failing–especially when Duke’s attentions make her feel anything but professional. Undiscovered
Undiscovered by Anna Hackett is $1.49 at Amazon! This is the first book in the Treasure Hunter Security romantic suspense series. Several of the other books in the series are also on sale. I’ve enjoyed Hackett’s other books and am intrigued by the setup. I believe Hackett’s books were also mentioned in the comments of an Action Adventure Rec League.
One former Navy SEAL. One dedicated archeologist. One secret map to a fabulous lost oasis.
Finding undiscovered treasures is always daring, dangerous, and deadly. Perfect for the men of Treasure Hunter Security. Former Navy SEAL Declan Ward is haunted by the demons of his past and throws everything he has into his security business–Treasure Hunter Security. Dangerous archeological digs – no problem. Daring expeditions – sure thing. Museum security for invaluable exhibits – easy. But on a simple dig in the Egyptian desert, he collides with a stubborn, smart archeologist, Dr. Layne Rush, and together they get swept into a deadly treasure hunt for a mythical lost oasis. When an evil from his past reappears, Declan vows to do anything to protect Layne.
Dr. Layne Rush is dedicated to building a successful career–a promise to the parents she lost far too young. But when her dig is plagued by strange accidents, targeted by a lethal black market antiquities ring, and artifacts are stolen, she is forced to turn to Treasure Hunter Security, and to the tough, sexy, and too-used-to-giving-orders Declan. Soon her organized dig morphs into a wild treasure hunt across the desert dunes. Danger is hunting them every step of the way, and Layne and Declan must find a way to work together…to not only find the treasure but to survive.

Sarina Bowen is pretty much an autobuy for me, and I thought Boyfriend was a solid B read.
So I LOVED Wall of Winnipeg & Me when I first read it. Happily went through Mariana Zappata’s back catalog. Didn’t love All Rhodes Lead Here, partly because the FMC hides things from the MMC loooong after there’s any logical reason for her to do so (other than “because word count”).
However, having read Zappata’s most recent book – When Gracie Met the Grump, which had one of the most jaw-droppingly bizarre conclusions I’ve ever read – some of the things that seemed merely awkward and alphahole-ish in the Wall of Winnipeg (and also Kulti) now read very differently.
Thank you for the link to Anna Hackett! That is MY JAM. And I’m embarrassed to say that at some point, I bought the first book in the series and then I guess completely forgot about it in the wilds of my kindle, but the rest of the series being on sale is outstanding news.
@Laurel – agreed on BOYFRIEND and Bowen! I clearly enjoyed reading this one because I gave it 4 stars, but I remember nothing about it beyond the premise.
THE WALL OF WINNIPEG AND ME is soooo good. The story is told from Van’s point of view and she’s such a great character – hard working, smart, artistic, focused, and fed the f*ck up with Aiden. It cracks me up that whenever she’s about to blow her top with him, she secretly gives him the finger instead. Aiden is a bit of a mystery. He was a football wunderkind who grew into an adult football God, but my man lacks what you might call people skills. I’m not going to justify an adult man’s rudeness, but as the book progresses, Aiden grew on me as his behavior improved and some of his earlier rudeness, while still wrong, at least began to make more sense. By the end, I was rooting for both of them to have their HEA.
@Ely – Interesting. I don’t suppose you’d be willing to elaborate? I haven’t read WHEN GRACIE MET THE GRUMP because I just don’t like Zapata’s non sports romances. (This seems to mostly be a me thing, judging from Goodreads.) You are right that the MMCs in both THE WALL OF WINNIPEG AND ME and KULTI have similar personality vibes and that they both tend in the alphahole direction.

Just FYI, Boyfriend is included in Bowen’s new collection, Holidating, which is on Kindle unlimited and $4.99 otherwise.
BTW, Doctor Mistake by Julie Saman is currently free for kindle. I love this book. Female OB resident and male OB attending kind of accidentally become roommates. I like the characters, the author gets the medical stuff pretty much right, and she also does a good job with the concerns such a pairing would raise
