  • We Could Be So Good

We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian

RECOMMENDED: We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian is $1.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this deal; fingers crossed it’s still active! Lara gave this one an A:

TL;DR: Read this book if you’d like to be swept along safely in a rising tide of emotion, predominantly love.

Nick Russo has worked his way from a rough Brooklyn neighborhood to a reporting job at one of the city’s biggest newspapers. But the late 1950s are a hostile time for gay men, and Nick knows that he can’t let anyone into his life. He just never counted on meeting someone as impossible to say no to as Andy.

Andy Fleming’s newspaper-tycoon father wants him to take over the family business. Andy, though, has no intention of running the paper. He’s barely able to run his life—he’s never paid a bill on time, routinely gets lost on the way to work, and would rather gouge out his own eyes than deal with office politics. Andy agrees to work for a year in the newsroom, knowing he’ll make an ass of himself and hate every second of it.

Except, Nick Russo keeps rescuing Andy: showing him the ropes, tracking down his keys, freeing his tie when it gets stuck in the ancient filing cabinets. Their unlikely friendship soon sharpens into feelings they can’t deny. But what feels possible in secret—this fragile, tender thing between them—seems doomed in the light of day. Now Nick and Andy have to decide if, for the first time, they’re willing to fight.

  • Lucky Bounce

    Lucky Bounce by Cait Nary

RECOMMENDED: Lucky Bounce by Cait Nary is $2.99! Lara reviewed this hockey romance and gave it a B+:

If you’re looking for a book that will make you swoon from the giddiness of falling in love, then this book will hit the spot. Just don’t be too surprised when it ends abruptly.

“Lucky Bounce is a funny and charming hockey romance that I couldn’t put down.” – Rachel Reid, USA Today Bestselling author of Time to Shine

A single dad pro hockey player falls for his biggest fan—who just happens to be his five-year-old daughter’s teacher—in this fun, flirty romantic comedy from Cait Nary

Ezekiel Boehm is no stranger to teaching kids with famous parents. But when the pro hockey player he’s been thirsting after walks into the Rittenhouse Friends School gym hand in hand with a tiny kindergartener, he figures he must be hallucinating. Spencer McLeod is a lot of things—Zeke’s favorite winger on the Philadelphia Liberty; a menace on the ice; a mumbling, reluctant but somehow captivating-as-hell postgame interview—but he’s not a dad. Except he is. Apparently.

Zeke can be chill about this. He can.

Surprisingly, the more time he spends with Spencer, the easier this becomes. School volunteer events turn into reserved seats at games, turn into…more. And even though Zeke is 100 percent committed to ignoring Spencer’s blush, to ignoring the way he looks in that one pair of gray sweatpants, he can’t take his eyes off him.

This can never work. Can it?

  • Satisfaction Guaranteed

    Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters

RECOMMENDED: Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters is $1.99! Both Tara and Shana reviewed this one and gave it an A:

Shana: I stayed up late reading Satisfaction Guaranteed because I just couldn’t put it down. This book reminded me why I love contemporary romances—experiencing the heady rush of falling in love through characters that feel so real, they could walk off the page and into one of my dinner parties. Reading this brought me such joy.

Opposites attract in this playful and laugh-out-loud rom-com from Lambda Award finalist Karelia Stetz-Waters.

Cade Elgin has a life and career in New York City, and she’s determined to get back to both as soon as possible after her aunt’s funeral in Portland. However, when she unexpectedly inherits her aunt’s sex toy store — and has to save it from foreclosure — Cade realizes she’s not going anywhere. But making Share the Love profitable won’t be as easy as Cade had hoped. Her new partner has an infuriating lack of business sense, and an infuriating ability to turn Cade on.

Selena Mathis knows that nothing is more important than saving Share the Love. Not her pride, not her inconvenient attraction toward her new business partner. Cade may be more buttoned-up than Selena usually goes for, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how to turn the store around. But the more they work together, the harder it becomes for Selena to ignore her growing feelings for Cade. And she starts to wonder if there is something more important than saving Share the Love.

  • A Rulebook for Restless Rogues

A Rulebook for Restless Rogues by Jess Everlee

A Rulebook for Restless Rogues by Jess Everlee is $1.99! This is book two in the Lucky Lovers of London series and it was mentioned last summer in Dahlia’s Queer Romance Round-Up for July. Last time we featured this on sale, commenters mentioned the list of CWs on the author’s site wasn’t comprehensive and reached out to Everlee. I believe the list of CWs has since been updated.

    London, 1885

David Forester and Noah Clarke have been best friends since boarding school. All grown up now, clever, eccentric Noah is Savile Row’s most promising young tailor, while former socialite David runs an underground queer club, The Curious Fox.

Nothing makes David happier than to keep the incense lit, the pianist playing and all his people comfortable, happy and safe until they stumble out into the dawn. But when the unscrupulous baron who owns the Fox moves to close it, David’s world comes crashing down.

Noah’s never feared a little high-stakes gambling, but as he risks his own career in hopes of helping David, he realizes two things:

One: David has not been honest about how he ended up at The Curious Fox in the first place

Two: Noah’s feelings for David have become far more than friendly

What future lies beyond those first furtive kisses? Noah and David can hardly wait to find out…if they can untangle David from his web of deception without losing everything Noah has worked for.

I haven’t read ‘Lucky Bounce’ (cannot with hockey) but can recommend the other three. ‘We Could Be So Good’ deserved every vote on its way to winning a Lambda Literary award.

I really enjoyed Lucky Bounce–it’s not as angsty as Cait Nary’s other titles, but that was something I really liked. (I loved her other books also, for the record 🙂 )

  3. Kareni says:

I enjoyed Lucky Bounce, but it was definitely far more mellow than the author’s other titles.

  5. LJBG says:

GAME MISCONDUCT is awesome!! It’s a bit painful at the beginning because both characters are at their absolute low points, but they grow so much as characters. As dark as it is, the story progression is ridiculously wholesome.

  6. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@flchen1: thanks for the heads-up on the Leslie McAdam books. Getting all five books in her IOU series free is a fabulous deal!

GAME MISCONDUCT is fantastic (as are the other two books in Ari Baran’s Penalty Box series). Highly recommended! On the other hand, while Cait Nary’s SEASON’S CHANGE had been one of my favorite reads of last year (and the follow-up, CONTRACT SEASON, was very good too), I found LUCKY BOUNCE a little too fluffy for my tastes, lacking both the angst and emotional conflict that, imho, makes an HEA truly worthwhile. Honestly, if Nary’s name hadn’t been on all three books, I would have had trouble believing the same author who wrote the first two wrote the third.

  7. MaryK says:

I just finished Lucky Bounce and, yeah, it’s not as good as her first series. It’s not bad, but it’s written in present tense which I found odd, and there’s not enough of the love interest, Spencer, to really believe he’s as all in as Zeke is.

On the other hand, I DNF’d that Ari Baran book in about chapter 2. The one guy was such a jerk. He literally assaults a rival player in an alley before they have angry sex. He’s got a reputation as a violent player and then when his coach tells him not to get in any fights in the next game, he’s all butt hurt like he would never. I didn’t like him. From the reviews I read, I think he’s suppose to have a tragic backstory; but the author didn’t make me care about him enough to get to that part.

  8. DeborahT says:

Oooh I forgot about the Jess Everlee series. I enjoyed the first book. Looks like I have something to read this weekend!

I liked Game Misconduct, but I thought all the violence was a little over the top and pretty unbelievable.

And I’m on the same page as the other posters regarding Lucky Bounce. I loved Cait Nary’s first book so much that I’ve re-read it twice already, I liked the second one – not so much that I’ll re-read, though – and the third was pretty boring.

  9. flchen1 says:

I guess this is what makes the whole reader landscape so interesting, LOL! I did really love Game Misconduct–I don’t think I’m anything like Mike or Danny; they are so interestingly twisted but vulnerable. But Baran’s writing completely worked for me in that while I still couldn’t truly understand their relationship to violence or in some ways how that tied the two of them together, I still was so moved by their need for connection and how specifically their connection was ultimately so good for them. And I also love the whole hockey part of it (caveat–I don’t actually know anything about hockey, LOL!) and their relationships with their teammates and friends.

Anyway, I do love how we can all read some of the same books and get different things from them. And thanks to everyone too for all the recs–as if I don’t already have too much to read! 🙂
