Lore Olympus, Volume Six
Author: Rachel Smythe
Released: May 7, 2024 by Inklore
Genre: Graphic Novel
Series: Lore Olympus #6Witness what the gods do after dark in the sixth volume of a stylish and contemporary reimagining of one of the best-known stories in Greek mythology, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes content from creator Rachel Smythe.
“We have to make an example of her.”
Chaos reigns in Olympus as Zeus publicly declares Persephone a traitor and issues a warrant for her arrest. But Hades defies his brother’s decree, sheltering Persephone in the Underworld—and as the pair spend more time together, they are able to speak openly about their pasts. The goddess of spring admits the truth behind the bloody secret that led to Zeus’s ire, and the king of the Underworld shares the trauma he suffered at the hands of his power-hungry father, Kronos.
But as Hades and Persephone’s relationship grows stronger, others begin to fall apart. The bond between Hades and Zeus is stretched to its limit, threatening to fracture the peace between their realms. Persephone and Artemis’s friendship hangs by a thread as the goddess of the hunt slowly uncovers the vile truth about her twin, Apollo. A line is being drawn in the heavens, putting everyone’s loyalties into question as all the gods are forced to choose sides.
I have read and re-read Lore Olympus a few times, and there are some illustrations that are burned into my head. Volume Six is out on May 7, 2024, collecting episodes 127-152 of the comic, plus bonus extras in the print edition. And y’all, Barnes and Noble has a ridiculously cute exclusive cover. Look. At. The only one of these that hooked me online is Lore Olympus. I get 8 books a year, print and/or ebook for Hanukkah, and am not otherwise allowed to buy books cause I have problems, so when I say I have, and am going to get, the whole Lore Olympus run…
Be warned though: terrible quality binding to date, not that it’s going to stop me, but it definitely underscores the choice to purchase in print something available for free in the original, optimal, format.
Even if print is your thing, you could preview these online. I tried Age Matters and Freaking Romance for a while but I couldn’t sustain interest even when they were free. I did make it through True Beauty, which WEBTOONs is doing a print run for, but I am not sure that I’d recommend buying it, exactly, not solely because I was devoted to the second lead and bitter about it. You can get Heartstopper in print, that one is adorable, even if I have not personally felt the need for a physical copy.
There’s one volume of Darbi out, which is NOT a romance but does own my whole heart. Still waiting on Teenage Mercenary, also emphatically not a romance.
I really enjoyed Age Matters, especially as Rose starts finding her feet and discovers she is good for a lot more than just cooking and cleaning! (Although the cockroach-on-the-stairs episode still makes me giddy with laughter.)
Also enjoying Enjelicious’ new webtoon Hello Baby, about two strangers figuring out their lives after a one-night stand on a cruise ship leads to an unexpected pregnancy. Lots of good adult conversations between two intelligent people, with most of the drama coming from other family members.
Thank you for this. Please cover more GN. I think I’ve read most when fledgling Webtoons and want them all.
