  • The Duke Gets Even

The Duke Gets Even by Joanna Shupe

The Duke Gets Even by Joanna Shupe is $2.99! This is book four in the Fifth Avenue Rebels series. I loved the intimacy in the last couple covers of this series. Have you read all four? What do you think?

By beloved USA Today bestselling author Joanna Shupe, the fourth installment in the Fifth Avenue Rebels series about a secret affair between a free-spirited heiress and an uptight duke which turns more passionate than either could have imagined.

    A rebellious heiress.

    A duke in dire straits.

    An anonymous midnight tryst.

To escape the shackles of marriage, Nellie Young purposely ruined her reputation a long time ago. Now she dedicates herself to hedonistic pleasures only, like kissing a handsome stranger in the ocean under the moonlight…

To save his estate, the proper Duke of Lockwood must marry the perfect bride–wealthy, with an unblemished reputation. While in New York he’s the perfect gentleman, and no one knows he’s suppressing his darkest desires. The last thing he needs is another scandal.

Except Nellie sees through Lockwood’s charade, straight to the real man underneath. This uptight duke is far more than he lets on, and she can’t resist him. Their secret affair turns scorching, far more than either expected. And when his beautiful rebel finds an unconventional cause, Lockwood has to decide if he’s willing to sacrifice everything to keep her.

  • The Romance Recipe

The Romance Recipe by Ruby Barrett

RECOMMENDED: The Romance Recipe by Ruby Barrett is $1.99! Tara reviewed this one can gave it a B+:

This story will especially work for people who like romances with restaurant settings, complicated characters, messy family dynamics, and relationships that start from a place of antagonism (I wouldn’t call it enemies-to-lovers). If you’re looking for a reality show romance, especially a cooking show, though? This won’t be the book for you.

A fiery restaurant owner falls for her enigmatic head chef in this charming, emotional romance

Amy Chambers: restaurant owner, micromanager, control freak.

Amy will do anything to revive her ailing restaurant, including hiring a former reality-show finalist with good connections and a lot to prove. But her hopes that Sophie’s skills and celebrity status would bring her restaurant back from the brink of failure are beginning to wane…

Sophie Brunet: grump in the kitchen/sunshine in the streets, took thirty years to figure out she was queer.

Sophie just wants to cook. She doesn’t want to constantly post on social media for her dead-in-the-water reality TV career, she doesn’t want to deal with Amy’s take-charge personality and she doesn’t want to think about what her attraction to her boss might mean…

Then, an opportunity: a new foodie TV show might provide the exposure they need. An uneasy truce is fine for starters, but making their dreams come true means making some personal and painful sacrifices and soon, there’s more than just the restaurant at stake.

Carina Adores is home to romantic love stories where LGBTQ+ characters find their happily-ever-afters.

  • What a Difference a Duke Makes

What a Difference a Duke Makes by Lenora Bell

What a Difference a Duke Makes by Lenora Bell is $1.99! Carrie read this one and gave it a C+. She refers to it as a soap bubble romance. Fun and light, but forgettable. This is the first book in the School for Dukes series. Have you read this one?

Wanted: Governess for duke’s unruly children

Edgar Rochester, Duke of Banksford, is one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in England, but when it comes to raising twins alone, he knows he needs help. The only problem is the children have chased away half the governesses in London. Until the clever, bold, and far-too-enticing Miss Mari Perkins arrives.

Lost: One heart to an arrogant duke

Mari knows how to wrap even the most rebellious children around her finger. But their demanding, wickedly handsome father? He won’t be quite so easy to control. And there’s something else she can’t seem to command. Her heart. The foolish thing beats so wildly every time the duke is near.

Found: A forbidden passion neither can deny

As his employee, Mari is strictly off-limits. But what if she’s the one breaking all his rules? In the game of governess versus duke, how can Edgar maintain his defenses when the only thing he wants to do is let the tempting beauty win?

  • Geekerella

    Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Geekerella by Ashley Poston is $1.99! This is a YA Cinderella retelling with lots of nerdery and set at a convention. Readers found this one to be pretty adorable, but rather forgettable once they finished. The subsequent two books are also on sale.

Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.

Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

  1. Crystal F. says:

I have books 2-4 of the Fifth Avenue Rebels, but haven’t read them yet. Skipped the 1st because of all the negative reviews on Goodreads. If enough people here say they enjoyed it, I might be willing to reconsider skipping it. I really want to read some of her books this year.

  2. Kim says:

Geekerella is sweet. I think folks who like the Olivia Dade Spoiler Alert series would especially enjoy it, because of the con/fandom context.

  3. Maria F says:

Her Baseborn Bridegroom by Alice Coldbreath is $1.99 today on kindle.

  4. Maria F says:

And Sweep of the Heart by Ilona Andrews (the latest Innkeeper) is $3.49 on kindle today.

  5. Neile says:

I liked books 2-4 of the Fifth Avenue Rebels, but I was one of those that Book 1 didn’t work for.

I ranked books 2 and 3 B+ and THE DUKE GETS EVEN was a B+/A- for me.

  6. footiepjs says:

I haven’t read any of the Fifth Avenue Rebels because the description for the first didn’t appeal to me but this one sounds more up my alley.

  7. FashionablyEvil says:

I thought THE DUKE GETS EVEN was fine. (I have not read the others in the series which suggests this one was probably snagged from the library in desperation.) The “can they be together??” premise kind of annoyed me because it’s played for tension but OBVIOUSLY they’re going to make it work because a) this is a romance and b) the whole point is that Lockwood finally meets his match. I am also recalling a scene where Nellie is trying to help a woman who is being abused and is VERY heavy-handed about it and I really worried for the woman she was trying to help. Anyway, it’s fine.

  8. Geekerella sounds like my sort of thing. Thank you!

  9. Kolforin says:

I do kinda like THE DUKE GETS EVEN’s cover. Actually I like to covers of THE ROMANCE RECIPE and GEEKERELLA, too. I’ve seen GEEKERALLA before but never before noticed the wiener dog.

  10. MaryK says:

SWEET STARFIRE by Jayne Ann Krentz is a Kindle Monthly Deal in January for 2.49. I don’t remember this book specifically, but I have fond memories of the series as some of the first SFR that I was able to find. It was originally published in, I think, 1994.

  11. Lisa F says:

Geekarella and Romance Recipe are both cute! Shupe’s my overall pick.

  12. Kareni says:

Sweet Starfire is still on my shelf, @MaryK. I reread it quite area times!

Two books currently FREE for US Kindle readers ~

The Matrimonial Advertisement (Parish Orphans of Devon Book 1) by Mimi Matthews

Slap Shot (Lauderdale Knights Book 1) by Kat Mizera

  13. Kareni says:

    Hmmph…’quite a few times’!

  14. Melissandre says:

I agree with Neile about #1 in Fifth Avenue Rebels (the only one of the series I read). I read it recently and the MMC was real problematic to me. He acted really entitled to the FMC’s love because of his own feelings and their shared past, pushed past her concerns and boundaries, acted like he knew best, didn’t communicate…I could go on.
