Love, Comment, Subscribe by Cathy Yardley

Love, Comment, Subscribe by Cathy Yardley is $2.49 at Amazon! This is the first book in the Ponto Beach Reunion series. The main characters were frenemies in high school, though agree to collab to help their growing YouTube and streaming channels.

Back in high school, Lily Wang wanted to be popular, but she considered herself lucky to be part of a tight group of oddballs and honors students called the Nerd Herd. Now, at twenty-eight, she feels like she’s finally on the cusp of succeeding as a beauty influencer—if she can hit five million subscribers, brands will take notice and she could get her own makeup line.

Fellow Nerd Herd alum Tobin Bui has had a lot of success as a YouTube gamer. But the road to online stardom has been rocky. First, he disappointed his parents by dropping out of college, and now, after years of pranks, skits, and playthroughs, he’s struggling to come up with new content to satisfy his ever-growing fan base. His agents say he needs cross-audience appeal, a new twist.

When Nerd Herd frenemy Lily approaches Tobin about teaming up to do a video to bolster her brand and reinvigorate his, he agrees. But when their first collab video goes viral, their relationship heats up too. With the whole internet watching, will these two former misfits finally realize they’re perfect together?

  • Stealing Home

    Stealing Home by Sherryl Woods

Stealing Home by Sherryl Woods is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance with a single mother heroine. The hero is her son’s baseball coach. This was made into a Netflix adaption and I’m wondering if it’s worth a watch. Any thoughts?

Maddie Townsend might live in a town called Serenity, but there’s been nothing calm or peaceful about her life since her marriage broke up. This stay-at-home mom has no job skills, an out-of-control sixteen-year-old son, a talkative fourteen-year-old who’s suddenly gone silent, a six-year-old daughter whose heart is broken, an ex-husband whose younger girlfriend is expecting their baby and two best friends who think she’s somehow qualified to help them open a fitness spa for women. But if Maddie is a tad on edge with all that on her plate, it’s nothing compared to the chaos that ensues when she discovers that her son’s baseball coach has feelings for her and the whole town disapproves. Maddie’s faced a lot of challenges lately with strength and resolve, but Cal Maddox may turn out to be more than she can handle.

Then again, he could just be the one man in all of South Carolina who can help her find serenity.

  • Awaken Me Darkly

Awaken Me Darkly by Gena Showalter

Awaken Me Darkly by Gena Showalter is $1.99! This is an alien romance with hints of suspense. It’s from the early 2000s, so it’s definitely of its time. Lots of domineering heroes in early 2000s paranormals and urban fantasy.

Ridding the world of evil, one alien at a time: That’s Mia Snow’s mission.

    Snow is in the forecast.

In a time and place not too far away, Mia Snow is an alien huntress for the New Chicago Police Department. Heading up her expert team of Alien Investigation and Removal agents, Mia’s unmatched at battling the elusive enemy among us, and she’s the perfect girl for the job. She’s seen her brother die at the hands of aliens. She’s earned each of her scars. And she’ll die before she cries. Now, a series of killings have Mia and her partner Dallas tracking alien suspects — but a sudden blast of violence leaves Dallas fighting for his life.

    They are ice and fire.

The chance to save Dallas appears in the form of a tall, erotic stranger. An alien. A murder suspect. Kyrin en Arr, of the deadly Arcadian species, holds the power to heal the injured agent but not without a price. For Mia Snow, that price is surrendering to Kyrin’s forbidden seduction…and embracing their electric attraction. She’s walking a knife’s edge, risking her badge and even her life. The closer she gets to Kyrin, the more Mia learns about her own heart, her human needs — and the shocking secret that will shatter everything she’s ever believed.

  • In the Event of Love

In the Event of Love by Courtney Kae

In the Event of Love by Courtney Kae is $3.99! This is a lesbian holiday romance and was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet. This is a holiday romance and I know some readers out there don’t mind reading these all year long.

Fans of Casey McQuiston and Alexandria Bellefleur will adore this queer romcom that combines everything people love about Hallmark-style holiday romances with laugh-out-loud humor and a sweet and steamy love story between two women.

With her career as a Los Angeles event planner imploding after a tabloid blowup, Morgan Ross isn’t headed home for the holidays so much as in strategic retreat. Breathtaking mountain vistas, quirky townsfolk, and charming small businesses aside, her hometown of Fern Falls is built of one heartbreak on top of another . . .

Take her one-time best friend turned crush, Rachel Reed. The memory of their perfect, doomed first kiss is still fresh as new-fallen snow. Way fresher than the freezing mud Morgan ends up sprawled in on her very first day back, only to be hauled out via Rachel’s sexy new lumberjane muscles acquired from running her family tree farm.

When Morgan discovers that the Reeds’ struggling tree farm is the only thing standing between Fern Falls and corporate greed destroying the whole town’s livelihood, she decides she can put heartbreak aside to save the farm by planning her best fundraiser yet. She has all the inspiration for a spectacular event: delicious vanilla lattes, acoustic guitars under majestic pines, a cozy barn surrounded by brilliant stars. But she and Rachel will ABSOLUTELY NOT have a heartwarming holiday happy ending. That would be as unprofessional as it is unlikely. Right?

  1. Laura says:

Steel Magnolias on Netflix – save your time. It had tons of potential I really wanted to like it, but this show is slow and tedious. I watched into season 3 then quit. Too many eye roll moments for me and when watching it feels like a chore (especially while I’m watching while doing chores), it became a DNF.

  2. Jennifer says:

Sweet Magnolias is a rare case in which I preferred the screen version to the book. I read Stealing Home when I heard it was the basis of an upcoming series and it didn’t do enough for me to read any of the other books. But I enjoyed the TV series–it was fun to watch with my teen daughter, as the Magnolias’ teens figure prominently in the show and there were elements for both of us to enjoy. I found the cast appealing. And Chris Klein is pretty impressively odious as the main character’s ex, which surprised me given the goofily affable character I associate him with in Election.

  3. Emily B says:

Sweet Magnolias is worth a watch – production value is slightly better than a Hallmark adaptation, wardrobe is great, and it’s nice to see Brooke Elliott in something again because she was so great in Drop Dead Diva. Heather Headley is also wonderful in it, although I wish she got to sing a bit more in it because come on, Aida! It’s all a bit cheesy, dialogue is kind of over the top, and there’s a little sneaky Jesus, but I definitely binged each season as it came out.

  4. Ms. M says:

Like Virgin River, the TV version of Sweet Magnolias stretches out the romance of the first book/couple for years and years and adds lots of angst. I find it an annoying format for adapting a romance novel compared to Bridgerton’s one couple per season format but your mileage may vary!

  5. Kim says:

@Emily B, 10 points for “little sneaky Jesus”
