The House in the Cerulean Sea

RECOMMENDED: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune is $2.99! Carrie gave it a B+:
I’m glad to have a book like this to read when it’s just all too much. Like Linus, who was slowly charmed by the world he entered, I loved this story so much that I did not want to leave when it ended.
A magical island. A dangerous task. A burning secret.
Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life. At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records. As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages.
When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he’s given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome, a sprite, a wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a were-Pomeranian, and the Antichrist. Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they’re likely to bring about the end of days.
But the children aren’t the only secret the island keeps. Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, who will do anything to keep his wards safe. As Arthur and Linus grow closer, long-held secrets are exposed, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn.
An enchanting story, masterfully told, The House in the Cerulean Sea is about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place—and realizing that family is yours.

The Time of Your Life by Sandra Kitt is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is book two in The Millionaires Club series and I believe it’s Kitt’s newest contemporary romance. There are some second chance and opposites attract elements.
Second chances always lead to a new beginning!
When Everett Nicholls died, he left his millions to the two people he cared about most—the young law student he was mentoring, and his beloved stepson. Eden Marsh and Beck Dennison are instantly suspicious of each other. Suddenly, with all this money at their fingertips, family problems they’ve each been ignoring can no longer be swept under the rug. Beck and his mother have had a strained relationship since tragedy befell the family when he was a young teen, and Eden knows it’s long past time to forge a new relationship with her demanding younger sister. As they begin to confide in each other—and to have fun together—their friendship is an anchor in a stormy new life…

Heated Rivals by Katee Robert is $1.99! This is another KDD. This is the second book in the O’Malley series and has been renamed/repackaged from its original title The Wedding Pact. It’s a contemporary romance with an arranged marriage and I even made a yummy cocktail for it! Some readers recommend reading the previous book to get a full understanding of the family dynamics.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert continues her smoking-hot series about the O’Malleys—wealthy, powerful, and full of scandalous family secrets.
Carrigan O’Malley has always known her arranged marriage would be more about power and prestige than passion. But after one taste of the hard-bodied, whiskey-voiced James Halloran, she’s ruined for anyone else. Too bad James and his family are enemy number 1.
Hallorans vs. O’Malleys—that’s how it’s always been. James should be thinking more about how to expand his family’s empire instead of how silky Carrigan’s skin is against his and how he can next get her into his bed. Those are dangerous thoughts. But not nearly as dangerous as he’ll be if he can’t get what he wants: Carrigan by his side for the rest of their lives.

The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks is 99c at Amazon! It’s available elsewhere, but not at the sale price. This is the first book in a fantasy romance series and I definitely perked up at Juliet Marillier’s blurb.

I want to highlight a few of the books from the Queer Your Bookshelf sale (today only), since it’s a pretty overwhelming number of books.
Books I’ve read and recommend:
Shipwrecked: Being a Tale of True Love, Magic, and Goats by Juniper Butterworth – Sapphic goblin-core cozy fantasy novella. Quirky and weird in the best possible ways. And with more emotional depth than I was expecting.
Erin McLellan’s Holidays novellas – Candy Hearts (m/m) and Stocking Stuffers (bi f/m). High heat and low conflict. They’re part of a longer series but they’re all pretty stand alone.
I haven’t read Misha Horne’s Hurt Me, Daddy (m/m kinky contemporary) yet because it seems darker than my mood lately. But no one does daddy kink, spanking romance or hurt/comfort better than MH.
Books I bought
The Honeymoon Mix-Up by Frankie Fyre (f/f contemporary) – it has a cute cover and it was already on my wish list (do I remember why? no I do not, but it’s .99, it has a cute cover and I need an age gap romance for my Sapphic book bingo card)
Errant, Vol. 1 by L. K. Fleet (f/f fantasy romance) – co-authored by K. R. Collins, Felicia Davin and Valentine Wheeler. I bought it because I like Felicia Davin. She describes it as “two sapphic fantasy novellas following the misadventures of a stoic swordswoman and a cheerful actress.”
A Demon for Midwinter by K.L. Noone. (m/m, PNR). I recently discovered K.L Noone’s high fantasy and liked it. This is an earlier book and isn’t high fantasy, but what the heck.
In case anyone else has been waiting for the price to drop on this one too–Cat Sebatian’s We Could Be So Good is $5.99 right now. It’s usually $9.99 and completely worth every penny, but that price is usually out of my budget so I’m very happy to get it at this price.
I enjoyed that Sandra Kitt book.
@Cristie – thank you for the heads up!! Just downloaded We Could Be So Good. I read it through my library and am so, so happy to own it now.
