Whatcha Watching? Give us your TV, Film, and Streaming Recs!

resting and watching a movie on the sofa illustration I received an email from K, who asked, “I was wondering if you could do a TV show or Movie recommendation list. I have a few shows I’d like to share and I’m looking for new ones to try.”

Yes, we can!

We love to know what you’re reading but I’m also curious about what you’re watching!

I’ve started a “watch list” in our family discord server to drop links to and titles of shows we might want to watch. Currently at the top of our queue:

It’s tricky because the overlap of “shows I want to watch” and “shows Adam wants to watch” isn’t very large, and also, there are some (ok, many) nights when I don’t want any “talky noise.” But when it’s dark and cold and I have quilts and wine, any of these options would make us happy.

What about you? Whatcha watching and loving lately?

On HBO; “We’re Here” A far better show than I presumed when I first tuned in. 3 drag queens travel to small towns and put on a drag show with local trans, gay and ally locals. Some of the performers are good, some are truly great, but all have tremendous courage. Real heart and soul, wearing high heals, higher hair and a poundage of sequins!

I’m slowly savoring my rewatch of Due South on YouTube. Also rewatching Heartstopper as needed and I started Smiley on Netflix last weekend and am really enjoying it.

Spouse and I are watching the “Willow” series on Disney+, which is a big nostalgia hit for us both as fantasy nerds, as well as being very funny and with an amazing cast (and an unexpected LGBTQA relationship that is not teased or underplayed, it just *is*). We enjoyed “Blown Away” on Netflix, and are about to finish “Inside Job”, which is a very dark animated comedy about the dysfunctional shadow governments and conspiracies that secretly run the world. It’s very funny, but you have to be in the right mood for it.

MISS SCARLETT AND THE DUKE just dropped their third season. It is set in Victorian London and I feel each season gets better. Eliza is the only female private detective in London and her childhood friend, William, is a Scotland Yard inspector. She refuses to accept what the patriarchy dictates and the “will they or won’t they” tension between Eliza and William is delicious. It is a Masterpiece Theater production.

JACK REACHER is a wonderful adaptation of Lee Child’s book. If you have never read any Jack Reacher, you might be put off by Jack Reacher’s perfection, but he is exactly as Lee Child wrote him. Available on Netflix.
