Links: Short Films, Patrick Stewart, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome back to Wednesday Links! There’s only one more left in 2022. I can hardly believe it.

I’ll be at my partner’s place on Christmas Eve, exchanging presents. I already know their present to me – a trip to Galaxy’s Edge to make my own lightsaber! Christmas Day, I’ll be back at my own apartment where my roommate and I are going to order a metric ton of Chinese food to just relax.

Happy holidays, y’all – however you’re celebrating!

For all my cozy gamers out there, here is a wonderful list of cozy games involving plants and potions. Delighted to find a few new titles to add to my own gaming wishlist!

This was shared in the SBTB Slack. Need some Patrick Stewart for the holidays?

@sirpatstew My first TikTok!? Please enjoy day one of 12 days of mini readings from A Christmas Carol, a novel that’s meant a great deal to me in my life. Cheers! #AChristmasCarol #12DaysOfChristmas #PStewTok ♬ Bonfire sound (sound of crackling firewood)(999487) – MN Field Record

This link was shared to us from Rebecca, who says, “This profile was a gosh darn delight.” It’s a profile on all three Blue’s Clues hosts! Rebecca was right!

Lastly, let’s wrap up with a short film about a mischievous kitty.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

    The Weird Old Book Finder

If you go down to the bottom of the screen and click “why,” it’ll take you to a Medium post explaining the wherefores, but to sum up, if you want to fall down a rabbit hole shaped like weird old books, The Weird Old Book Finder will serve you a scanned public domain publication in response to most queries provided. It’s offered me old crochet patterns and cheesemaking and something with comic strip-style illustrations that was either ribald or perfectly innocent and I’m just dirtyminded.

I’ve played Strange Horticulture. Fun little game, and re-playable. Changes depending on your responses to visitors in your shop. Don’t like that guy? You can just give him a rash, or kill him with a poisonous plant.

That is an awesome gift Amanda- it’s an amazing place and I hope you have a wonderful time! What color blade are you going to choose?
Similarly we’re actually giving our kids a trip to Galaxy’s Edge to make their own droids…but they don’t know yet. We bought each one a droid Funko to wrap with an invite to go make the real thing. I’m so excited for Christmas morning!

The BBC is doing an audio dramatisation of The Dark is Rising as a daily episode, fitting with the time scheme of the novel. here, and about the book. Soundscapey and spooky.

That video made me snort-laugh in the middle of my workday. Thank you!!

  6. Amanda says:

@Emily: I think I’m going to go with red for the blade, though I’m waffling back and forth on the hardware. I hope you kids love their present; I bet they’re going to be so stoked!

@Sandra, thanks for calling out Strange Horticulture! My husband and I started playing it today, and now I know how we’ll be spending Xmas weekend!
