  • For the Wolf

For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten

For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten is $2.99! This is a dark romantic fantasy that was featured in Hide Your Wallet and was highly anticipated by me and Aarya. I remember starting it but finding it a little slow.

The first daughter is for the Throne.
The second daughter is for the Wolf.

For fans of Uprooted and The Bear and the Nightingale comes a dark fantasy novel about a young woman who must be sacrificed to the legendary Wolf of the Wood to save her kingdom. But not all legends are true, and the Wolf isn’t the only danger lurking in the Wilderwood.

As the only Second Daughter born in centuries, Red has one purpose-to be sacrificed to the Wolf in the Wood in the hope he’ll return the world’s captured gods.

Red is almost relieved to go. Plagued by a dangerous power she can’t control, at least she knows that in the Wilderwood, she can’t hurt those she loves. Again.

But the legends lie. The Wolf is a man, not a monster. Her magic is a calling, not a curse. And if she doesn’t learn how to use it, the monsters the gods have become will swallow the Wilderwood-and her world-whole.

  • The Body in the Garden

The Body in the Garden by Katharine Schellman

The Body in the Garden by Katharine Schellman is $1.99! This is the first book in a historical mystery series and it also looks like book two is on sale. If you’re looking for a new series to start and have exhausted all the usual suspects, pick this one up!

Perfect for fans of Tasha Alexander and Rhys Bowen, Katharine Schellman’s debut novel is sure to delight.

London 1815. Newly widowed Lily Adler returns to a society that frowns on independent women, but she’s no stranger to the glittering world of London’s upper crust. She’s back in town and eager to have a renaissance with friends, particularly with Lady Serena Walter–from their school days–determined to create a meaningful life for herself even without a husband. She expects scandal, gossip, and secrets. What she doesn’t expect, as she’s visiting Lady Walter is a dead man laying in her garden.

Lily happened to overhear the man just minutes before he was shot: young, desperate, and attempting blackmail. When she finds out Lord Walter bribes the investigating magistrate to drop the case, Lily is worried, and becomes the only one with the key to catching the killer.

Aided by Navy Captain Jack Hartley and heiress from the West Indies Miss Ofelia Oswald, Lily sets out to discover whether her friend’s husband is mixed up in blackmail and murder. The unlikely team sets out to conceal their investigation behind the whirl of London’s social season, but the deceased knew secrets about people with power. Secrets that the powerful have desire and influence to keep hidden. Now, Lilly will have to uncover the truth, before she becomes the killer’s next target.

  • I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm

I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm by Kelly Bowen

I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm by Kelly Bowen is $1.99! This is the first book in the Lords of Worth series and it was mentioned in a guest post on “feminist favorites.” I thought we had mentioned it in something else as well, but I couldn’t locate anything.

    WHERE SECRETS SMOLDER . . .

Calm. Cool. Collected. Gisele Whitby has perfected the art of illusion-her survival, after all, has depended upon it. Years ago, to escape an abusive husband, Gisele “disappeared.” Now she must risk revealing her new identity to save another innocent girl from the same fate. But she needs a daring man for her scheme, and the rogue in question shows a remarkable talent . . . for shattering Gisele’s carefully constructed facade and igniting her deepest desires.

    . . . PASSION IGNITES

This isn’t the first time Jamie Montcrief has awakened naked and confused from a night of drinking. It is, however, the first time a stunningly beautiful woman offers him payment afterward. Gisele has a business proposition for him, a mission involving cunning thievery and a brazen rescue. How can he say no to a plot this dangerous . . . and a woman this delectable?

  • Three Weeks to Wed

Three Weeks to Wed by Ella Quinn

Three Weeks to Wed by Ella Quinn is 99c! Redheadedgirl reviewed this book and wound up giving it a C- mainly due to the lack of conflict in this one. I think Quinn is good for readers who want an uncomplicated “soap bubble” romance.

In the first book of her dazzling new series, bestselling author Ella Quinn introduces the soon-to-be Earl and Countess of Worthington–lovers who have more in common than they yet know. The future promises to be far from boring…

Lady Grace Carpenter is ready to seize the day–or rather, the night–with the most compelling man she’s ever known. Marriage would mean losing guardianship of her beloved siblings, and surely no sane gentleman will take on seven children not his own. But if she can have one anonymous tryst with Mattheus, Earl of Worthington, Grace will be content to live out the rest of her life as a spinster.

Matt had almost given up hope of finding a wife who could engage his mind as well as his body. And now this sensual, intelligent woman is offering herself to him. What could be more perfect? Except that after one wanton night, the mysterious Grace refuses to have anything to do with him. Amid the distractions of the Season he must convince her, one delicious encounter at a time, that no obstacle–or family–is too much for a man who’s discovered his heart’s desire…

The Ella Quinn cover is *gorgeous* – her dress, her back, his hands, the about-to-kiss heat. And I’m always here for MMCs with some chest hair!

  2. Alisa says:

More thoughts on One for the Wolf? I have some Amazon credit. Trying to figure out if this is worth spending it on??

  3. Rosesred says:

Agree with ‘for the wolf’ fizzling out after the first chapter. The concept is great, but it bogs down into an (imo unhealthy YA ) romance and a lot of people lamenting their fate. Ymmv

  4. SB Sarah says:

As stated at the top of the post, we will not cross the Harper Collins Union picket line and will not promote, feature, review, or recommend any Harper Collins title until an agreement with the union has been reached.

This includes titles from Avon, Harper Voyager, Carina Press, Harlequin, and all other imprints.

As of today, 14 November 2022, there is no agreement.

You are absolutely welcome to buy whatever titles you choose. But we will not cross the picket line. Thank you for your understanding.

  5. Leigh Kramer says:

I absolutely loved For the Wolf! It’s creepy, atmospheric, and gorgeously written. I particularly enjoyed how it delved into the corruption of religion, the truth behind myths, and the power of choice.

  6. Shawna says:

I just started re-reading For The Wolf in order to read the 2nd one about the sister (For The Throne), and I’m not feeling the slowness as much as I did the first time around – must be because I know where it’s headed. If you like angsty Beauty & the Beast vibes, this one is good for that!

  7. G says:

    @SB Sarah

Thank you for the message about the HarperCollins Union – the deal I posted was an Avon one so I believe that is why my comment was deleted.

  8. SB Sarah says:

    Thank you for your understanding!

  9. Wait, what? says:

I DNF’d For the Wolf. It was slow, and I found I just didn’t care about the characters. I dislike when the “chosen one” refuses to learn about and/or use their special powers because “the first time I did it there was a bad outcome so instead of trying to learn and figure out what went wrong I’ll just let others continue to suffer but will also obstinately refuse to listen when someone tries to help because what could they possibly know about my life!” Maybe I’m just too old and cranky to read YA books :-/

    Obviously YMMV 🙂

  10. LG123 says:

Another DNF of For the Wolf here. It wasn’t just slow; it was slow AND every time the heroine started to learn one tiny thing about her fate or powers or whatever, the narrative got sidetracked by the completely cringe YA romance. It definitely has no business being compared to Uprooted or The Bear and the Nightingale. I got it from the library and $2.99 would be overpaying IMO

  11. KatiM says:

I gave For the Wolf 8 chapters and it was not the gothic atmospheric read I was looking for. I thought the marketing was way off.

  12. Kris Bock says:

Fyi, the harpercollins union tweeted the following:
Readers, fellow union members, or all of the above: Don’t boycott Harper titles! Share our message and donate to our strike fund if you’re

  13. Susan/DC says:

Chalk up another reader who DNF’d FOR THE WOLF. I wanted to like it because the blurb (see recent Get Rec’d with Amanda about book blurbs) contained hints of fairy tales and romance and mystery and all kinds of other catnip. In reality, however, I was disappointed and a bit bored.

Liked the Kelly Bowen, but the hero isn’t a duke so the title is misleading. His parents married after his birth, so technically he’s a bastard, although he is son of a duke and brother to the current duke (who was born after the parents’ marriage).

  14. Kris says:

The Change by Kristen Miller was $3.99 on Apple Books. I don’t know if this was a daily deal.

  15. SB Sarah says:

@Kris: Yes, and we aren’t advocating a boycott. The HC Union asked reviewers and bloggers to “hold reviews, nominations, and any other content until they have a fair contract.” So we are abiding by their request and will not feature or promote any Harper Collins titles until an agreement is reached with the union. That includes Books on Sale, Hide Your Wallet, the podcast and accompanying media, reviews, and other promotions here.

  16. Kris says:

@SB Sarah…..OMG….I haven’t been keeping up with this. I’m so sorry. Please remove my post . I totally understand.

  17. SB Sarah says:

No need to apologize! Virtual picket lines are new to me and can be confusing.
