Welcome back to Wednesday Links!
I loved hearing about the video games you’re all playing! I beat the storyline of Super Mario Odyssey over the weekend. Now I’ll just be collecting hundreds upon hundreds of moons!
I have plans to go to the Cape with my partner this weekend and I hope I can turn my brain off for a few days and just nap in the sun. The heat is a constant, though, I know it’ll only get worse as we get closer to August. Oh well!

Sarah shared this link with me from Publishers Weekly about the trauma experienced by frontline library workers. Seriously, bless our librarians out there in the world.

If you haven’t heard, HarperCollins workers are staging a 1-day strike on July 20th if the publisher doesn’t agree to negotiate for a fair contract. Workers are seeking better wages, better family leave benefits, and a commitment to diversifying staff to name a few. For the 20th, SBTB aims to not feature any HarperCollins titles for any reviews going up that day or for Books on Sale.

Thanks to Megan for letting us know about Chunk Tingle’s latest release: Pounded In The Butt By My Handsome Sentient Library Card Who Seems Otherworldly But In Reality Is Just A Natural Part Of The Priceless Resources Our Library System Provides
Never change, Chuck Tingle!

This Friday, July 15th, Alyssa Cole is hosting a virtual event with authors Natalie Caña, Lydia San Andres, Julie Tieu, Jamie Wesley, and Tia Williams! What a lineup!
The event is in partnership with Loyalty Bookstores, is free to attend, and will be hosted on Crowdcast. Register here!

My latest cool social media follow is Kim Padula of No One Alike. Kim hand-makes one of a kind marbled pattern designs. I find watching the process to be soothing and so neat!

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!
What am I excited about? This, I’m excited about this:

Maybe someone else mentioned it, I’ve been in NC for my annual Outlander vacation and might have missed it. How can you not be excited about this!!
A colleague sent me the Chuck Tingle cover last week, coincidentally while I was working the front desk, and I broke down into laughs. I promptly called over someone who I knew would appreciate it and we laughed together.
Appreciate the heads up re the Harper Collins workers! Will refrain from purchasing any books from them on that day in solidarity.
On the subject of libraries, for those living in the US with teens, the Brooklyn Library is offering a FREE digital library card to young folk. More here:

This is a great opportunity I’d have loved as a nerdy kid, though I had access to a wonderful library system.
Every time I see Chunk Tingle’s name I think about that guy who wrote a twitter thread about being locked out from his Amazon account and being on the phone with a csr who had to ask him to name the last five titles he’d purchased for his ereader, both of them with the sudden awareness of how bonkers at least two of those titles would be… (But he did get back into his account, if I recall.)
BELATEDLY, as this is no longer Wednesday: Did I hallucinate that someone here shared a link from a publisher that let one make one’s own romance covers? Like, just for fun, not for publication? I am driving myself nuts looking for it! Thanks in advance to anyone who knows what I’m talking about.
As for a link to a thing I enjoy:
I am an old who is just discovering TikTok. I am very amused by this woman’s impressions of self-absorbed celebrities’ beleaguered PR reps: https://www.tiktok.com/@colormeloverly
