  • The Bad Luck Bride

The Bad Luck Bride by Janna MacGregor

The Bad Luck Bride by Janna MacGregor is 99c! Sarah had the author on as part of a previous live podcast taping at RT and I found it fascinating. Some readers expressed confusion in how the overall plot unfolded, but others really loved the heroine and her cursed luck.

All were shocked at the announcement of the “cursed” Lady Claire Cavensham to Lord Alexander Hallworth, the Marquess of Pembrooke, especially since she is already engaged to another unfortunate Lord. Perhaps she will make it to the altar this time with one of these fine gentlemen! Could her run of bad luck finally be at an end? It’s highly doubtful in this writer’s humble opinion. —Midnight Cryer

No one is left breathless at the imperious pronouncement of her engagement to Lord Pembrooke more than Claire. She hardly knows the dangerously outrageous man! But after three engagements gone awry and a fourth going up in glorious flames, she isn’t in a position to refuse…especially once she realizes that Lord Pembrooke makes her want to believe she’s not a bad luck bride anymore…

Alexander requires the hand of his enemy’s fiancée in marriage in order to complete his plans for revenge. It’s his good fortune that the “cursed” woman is desperate. However, what begins as a sham turns into something scandalously deeper. The beguiling lady has no business laying claim to his heart. But as a mission of revenge turns into fiery passion, Alexander wants nothing more than to break Claire’s curse…and lead them both to their hearts’ desire.

  • Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop

Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop by Roselle Lim

Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop by Roselle Lim is $1.99! This is more women’s fiction with light magical elements and some lovely travel pr0n. I believe Lim’s third book just came out as well.

From the critically acclaimed author of Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune comes a new delightful novel about exploring all the magical possibilities of life in the most extraordinary city of all: Paris.

Vanessa Yu never wanted to see people’s fortunes—or misfortunes—in tealeaves.

Ever since she can remember, Vanessa has been able to see people’s fortunes at the bottom of their teacups. To avoid blurting out their fortunes, she converts to coffee, but somehow fortunes escape and find a way to complicate her life and the ones of those around her. To add to this plight, her romance life is so nonexistent that her parents enlist the services of a matchmaking expert from Shanghai.

After her matchmaking appointment, Vanessa sees death for the first time. She decides that she can’t truly live until she can find a way to get rid of her uncanny abilities. When her eccentric Aunt Evelyn shows up with a tempting offer to whisk her away, Vanessa says au revoir to California and bonjour to Paris. There, Vanessa learns more about herself and the root of her gifts and realizes one thing to be true: knowing one’s destiny isn’t a curse, but being unable to change it is.

  • Ultimate Courage

    Ultimate Courage by Piper Drake

Ultimate Courage by Piper J. Drake is $2.99! This is book two in the True Heroes series, which often features veteran heroes and therapy dogs. All of Drake’s books in this series seem to have really good overall ratings on Goodreads. Are you a fan?

LOVE IS AN ACT OF BRAVERY

Retired Navy SEAL Alex Rojas is putting his life back together, one piece at a time. Being a single dad to his young daughter and working at Hope’s Crossing Kennels to help rehab a former guard dog, he struggles every day to control his PTSD. But when Elisa Hall shows up, on the run and way too cautious, she unleashes his every protective instinct.

Elisa’s past never stays in her rearview mirror for long, and she refuses to put anyone else in danger. But with Alex guarding her so fiercely yet looking at her so tenderly, she’s never felt safer . . . or more terrified that the secrets she keeps could put countless people in grave peril. The only way for both to fully escape their demons will take the ultimate act of courage: letting go and learning to trust each other.

  • Hunted

    Hunted by Elizabeth Heiter

Hunted by Elizabeth Heiter is $1.99! Elyse says, “The first book in The Profiler series introduces us to Evelyn Baine, an FBI agent who hunts serial killers while trying to solve a mystery from her past. The suspense is creepy (think Criminal Minds), but Heiter adds a romantic subplot to balance it out. I love that Evelyn totally misses all the signals her hot Hostage Rescue Team member is giving her about how much he’s crushing on her.”

Terror stalks a small Virginia town.

FBI rising star, criminal profiler Evelyn Baine, knows how to think like a serial killer. But she’s never chased anyone like the Bakersville Burier, who hunts young women and displays them, half-buried, deep in the woods. As the body count climbs, Evelyn’s relentless pursuit of the killer puts her career – and her life – at risk. And the evil lurking in the Burier’s mind may be more than even she can unravel.

Terror is closer than she thinks.

The Bakersville Burier knows he’s got an FBI profiler on his trail. He knows who she is and where to find her. And he’s biding his time, because he’s planned a special punishment for Evelyn. She may have tracked other killers, but he vows to make this her last chase. This time it’s her turn to be hunted!

  1. Margarita says:

I nominate the Ultimate Courage for Cover Snark!

  2. Empress of Blandings says:

@Margarita I thought that too. The expressions on the dog and the guy don’t so much read ‘tough and dangerous’ to me. They’re more ‘hang on – did we leave the iron on?’

  3. Darlynne says:

Agreed about ULTIMATE COURAGE. I think he’s rebooting the dog or poking him in the eye or screwing his head back on. Dog’s eye just isn’t right, like a Terminator. I do enjoy the books, however.

  4. Jennifer says:

Anyone else unable to load the tea shop link at Amazon? Something seems to be going wrong there 🙁

  5. LML says:

@Jennifer. Each link returns this message to me:
We’re sorry, an error has occurred. Please reload this page and try again.

  6. SB Sarah says:

I think Amazon’s buy links are not working; I had problems earlier trying to load other things!

  7. Susan says:

@Jennifer: I just tried it and it worked ok for me.

That said, Amazon (Kindle and Audible) has been so aggravatingly glitchy in SO many ways recently. Among other things, there was a recent automatic update on my Oasis that has rendered it virtually useless. I don’t know what’s going on with them.

  8. Lisa F says:

Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop is my pick from this batch, but I remember the Macgreggor being cute!

  9. OuchOuchOuch says:

@Margarita, Came here to say the same thing! Three fonts, reluctant animal, hero with a “You mean do this?” look, and, oh, bonus points for the inevitable PNW setting implied on the cover.
