Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake

RECOMMENDED: Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall is $2.99! Carrie and I jointly reviewed this one and agreed on a B+. As a bisexual woman, I definitely felt seen by this book and I’m here for all the baking romance reads.
Fans of Casey McQuiston, Christina Lauren, and Abby Jimenez will love this scrumptious and sweet romantic comedy from the “dizzyingly talented writer” of Boyfriend Material (Entertainment Weekly)!
Following the recipe is the key to a successful bake. Rosaline Palmer has always lived by those rules—well, except for when she dropped out of college to raise her daughter, Amelie. Now, with a paycheck as useful as greaseproof paper and a house crumbling faster than biscuits in tea, she’s teetering on the edge of financial disaster. But where there’s a whisk there’s a way . . . and Rosaline has just landed a spot on the nation’s most beloved baking show.
Winning the prize money would give her daughter the life she deserves—and Rosaline is determined to stick to the instructions. However, more than collapsing trifles stand between Rosaline and sweet, sweet victory. Suave, well-educated, and parent-approved Alain Pope knows all the right moves to sweep her off her feet, but it’s shy electrician Harry Dobson who makes Rosaline question her long-held beliefs—about herself, her family, and her desires.
Rosaline fears falling for Harry is a guaranteed recipe for disaster. Yet as the competition—and the ovens—heat up, Rosaline starts to realize the most delicious bakes come from the heart.

Digging Up Love by Chandra Blumberg is $1.99 at Amazon! This looks like a cute romance between a baker and a paleontologist. Have you read this one? It came out earlier this year in January.
From debut author Chandra Blumberg comes a playful, heartfelt romance about chasing your dreams and finding love in the process.
Alisha Blake works her magic in the kitchen, creating delectable desserts for her grandfather’s restaurant in rural Illinois. Though Alisha relishes the close relationship she has with her family, she can’t help but dream about opening a cookie shop in Chicago. She may be a small-town baker, but Alisha has big ambitions.
Then a dinosaur bone turns up in her grandparents’ backyard. When paleontologist Quentin Harris arrives to see the discovery for himself, he’s hoping that the fossil will distract him from a recent painful breakup. Instead, he finds Alisha—and sparks fly. The big-city academic and the hometown baker seem destined for a happily ever after.
But Alisha is scared to fall in love. And Quentin’s trying to make a name for himself in a competitive field, which gets even more complicated when the press shows up at the dig site. For love to prevail, the two may have to put old bones aside—and focus on the future.

RECOMMENDED: The Menopause Manifesto by Dr. Jen Gunter is $1.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this sale. Tara gave it an A:
If your field of fucks is completely barren and you just want some straightforward, evidence-based information served with a healthy dose of snark and the occasional jab at pseudoscience and Gwyneth Paltrow, this will be the book for you.
The internationally renowned, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Vagina Bible , Dr. Jen Gunter has been called the world’s most famous–and outspoken–gynecologist (The Guardian), the internet’s OB/GYN, and one of the fiercest advocates for women’s health. Now, in The Menopause Manifesto, Dr. Jen Gunter brings you empowerment through knowledge by countering stubborn myths and misunderstandings about menopause with hard facts, real science, fascinating historical perspective, and expert advice.
The only thing predictable about menopause is its unpredictability. Factor in widespread misinformation, a lack of research, and the culture of shame around women’s bodies, and it’s no wonder women are unsure what to expect during the menopause transition and beyond.
Menopause is not a disease–it’s a planned change, like puberty. And just like puberty, we should be educated on what’s to come years in advance, rather than the current practice of leaving people on their own with bothersome symptoms and too much conflicting information. Knowing what is happening, why, and what to do about it is both empowering and reassuring.
Frank and funny, Dr. Jen debunks misogynistic attitudes and challenges the
over-mystification of menopause to reveal everything you really need to know about:– Perimenopause
– Hot flashes
– Sleep disruption
– Sex and libido
– Depression and mood changes
– Skin and hair issues
– Outdated therapies
– Breast health
– Weight and muscle mass
– Health maintenance screening
– And much more!Filled with practical, reassuring information, this essential guide will revolutionize how women experience menopause–including how their lives can be even better for it!

I also liked Rosalind Palmer. It wasn’t the best? Appreciated the bi rep, and the contrast between the love interests was great. Also the whole, keeping exes who have become friends in your life!
On another note, Elena Ferrante’s Neopolitan Novels box set is 3.99. I don’t love this author as much as some do, but this is a good price if you like the books!
Devoured ROSALINE PALMER; hit the spot for comfort reading, matching that GBBO energy. Can’t wait for the next one.
Rosaline Palmer sent me to the Bad Decisions Book Club. Could not put it down. Please note the content warnings – in the SBTB review and in the front of the book itself – I saw that scene coming and it was still hard to read.
@Penny: whenever they go on sale, I feel I should buy (and, more importantly, read) the Ferrante books, but I also know they would sit unread and reproachful on my Kindle whilst I continue to devour mass quantities of dark mafia romances and HPs! Sometimes self-insight can be a chastening thing.
@DDD Lol. I got the first book as a gift (because when you tell people you like reading people give you books… without asking you what you like) and it was fine. I picked up the ebook box set awhile ago on sale and read half of the second one? Felt weirdly like an obligation. I too get distracted by my catnip books… my spouse calls it “brain candy” which is kind of right but also maybe not? Depends on how you perceive candy consumption *thinky face*
@Penny, @DDD: My bookclub chose Ferrante’s MY BEAUTIFUL FRIEND and I gave up less than 100 pages in. Not one likable character, which is usually ok, but no one interesting and I couldn’t possibly have cared less about any of them. I am completely over hearing about “important” books; give me brain candy with scifi/fantasy and crime fiction any day.
