  • Dangerous Ground

    Dangerous Ground by Rachel Grant

Dangerous Ground by Rachel Grant is $1.99! This is book one in the Fiona Carver series and I’m unsure if it’s romantic suspense or more of a mystery series with romantic elements. Book two is also on sale!

In the remote and unpredictable Aleutians, danger comes without warning in an adrenaline rush of a novel by USA Today bestselling author Rachel Grant.

Archaeologist Fiona Carver has unfinished business in the Aleutian Islands. After an emergency evacuation cut her first expedition short, she’s finally back. But time is not on her side as she races to finish documenting the remnants of a prehistoric village, recover missing artifacts, and track down missing volcanologist Dylan Slater.

Having bluffed his way onto Fiona’s team with fake credentials, wildlife photographer Dean Slater is willing to risk more than federal prison to find his missing brother, but he needs Fiona’s help. She knows the inhospitable terrain better than anyone.

When the two set out together on a perilous journey, it becomes more than a recovery mission. In their fight for survival, nature isn’t the only threat. They aren’t the only ones on the hunt. Mile by dangerous mile, someone is hunting them.

  • Burn Zone

    Burn Zone by Annabeth Albert

Burn Zone by Annabeth Albert is $1.99! This is book one in the Hotshots series, which features firefighter and smoke jumper heroes. I know we have a few Albert fans in the Bitchery. Have you read this one?

Introducing Annabeth Albert’s Hotshots series—the emotions and intensity of Chicago Fire with the raw, natural elements of Man vs. Wild.

Danger lurks everywhere for Central Oregon’s fire crews, but the biggest risk of all might be losing their hearts…

Smoke jumper Lincoln Reid is speechless to see Jacob Hartman among his squad’s new recruits. Linc had promised his late best friend he’d stay away from his little brother. And yet here Jacob is…and almost instantly, the same temptation Linc has always felt around him is causing way too many problems.

Jacob gets everyone’s concerns, but he’s waited years for his shot at joining the elite smoke jumping team, hoping to honor his brother’s memory. He’s ready to tackle any challenge Linc throws his way, and senses the chemistry between them—chemistry Linc insists on ignoring—is still alive and kicking. This time, Jacob’s determined to get what he wants.

Close quarters and high stakes make it difficult for Linc to keep his resolve, never mind do so while also making sure the rookie’s safe. But the closer they get, the more Linc’s plan to leave at the end of the season risks him breaking another promise: the one his heart wants to make to Jacob.

  • The Good Luck Charm

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting is $1.99! If you’re looking for a sweet, second chance romance, readers on Goodreads recommend this one. But others wished the heroine had more of a backbone when dealing with things.

Is it love, or is she just his good luck charm? New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting brilliantly captures the hilarity and heartache of first love and second chances in her sexy new romantic comedy.

Lilah isn’t sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she’s no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.

Ethan wants his glory days back. And that includes having Lilah by his side. With her, he was magic. They were magic. All he has to do is make her see that.

Just when Lilah might finally be ready to let Ethan in, though, she finds out their reunion might have nothing to do with love and everything to do with improving his game. But Ethan’s already lost her once, and even if it costs him his career, he’ll do anything to keep from losing her again.

  • Spellbound

    Spellbound by Allie Therin

Spellbound by Allie Therin is $1.99! This is a gay fantasy historical romance with a dash of mystery. Most readers loved the writing, while others wished the execution were better. Reviews also mention that this one has closed door/off the page sex scenes.

To save Manhattan, they’ll have to save each other first…

    1925

    New York

Arthur Kenzie’s life’s work is protecting the world from the supernatural relics that could destroy it. When an amulet with the power to control the tides is shipped to New York, he must intercept it before it can be used to devastating effects. This time, in order to succeed, he needs a powerful psychometric…and the only one available has sworn off his abilities altogether.

Rory Brodigan’s gift comes with great risk. To protect himself, he’s become a recluse, redirecting his magic to find counterfeit antiques. But with the city’s fate hanging in the balance, he can’t force himself to say no.

Being with Arthur is dangerous, but Rory’s ever-growing attraction to him begins to make him brave. And as Arthur coaxes him out of seclusion, a magical and emotional bond begins to form. One that proves impossible to break—even when Arthur sacrifices himself to keep Rory safe and Rory must risk everything to save him.

I’ve read Dangerous Ground and enjoyed it. Rachel Grant writes a good balance of suspense and romance in her books, although this series follows one couple and the romance is more slowly developed. The second book in the series, Crash Site is also on sale for $1.99. I’m not sure how it works if you aren’t a Kindle Unlimited member, but if you are and borrow the book, the audiobook is free to listen to. You don’t have to be an Audible member to listen. I listened to Dangerous Ground and the narration is good.

Annabeth Albert is a go-to author for me. She writes very solid mm books, often with representation of sexual orientations such as pan, demi, and bi. I enjoyed her entire Hotshot’s series. They are wonderful on audio, as well. Her books are generally solid B’s for me, sometimes A’s.

I’ve read Spellbound and enjoyed it. It is the first of a three book series. I haven’t read the next two, but jumped into Proper Scoundrels which is a spin-off. I enjoyed it even more. I recommend some familiarity with the world before reading Proper Scoundrel.

I’ve read both Burn Zone and Spellbound and I was meh on both of them.

I gave Burn Zone 3.5 stars on GR and wrote this:
I got impatient with the first half – way too much “I want you but I can never have you because reasons” nonsense. But I enjoyed it once they started sleeping together to “get it out of their systems.”

I enjoyed Rachel Grant’s Dangerous Ground so much that I followed it up by reading all of her other published books. Good reading times.

  5. Amanda says:

Books 1-3 of the Hot Shots series were all 4s, for me. Albert was one of my very first introductions to MM romance so she’ll always have a soft spot for me. I still think about these books when reading other firefighter books.

  6. Kris Bock says:

I really enjoyed Allie Therin’s series. Despite the violence, the books are sweet, like a warm hug.
