  • The Bride

    The Bride by Julie Garwood

RECOMMENDED: The Bride by Julie Garwood is $1.99! This is one of my favorite historical romances and was one of my gateway reads to the genre, if you’ve listened to the What Made Us Romance Readers podcast episode. Kiki is also on a Julie Garwood kick, per out recent Whatcha Reading post.

By edict of the king, the mighty Scottish laird Alec Kincaid must take an English bride. His choice was Jamie, youngest daughter of Baron Jamison…a feisty, violet-eyed beauty. Alec ached to touch her, to tame her, to possess her…forever. But Jamie vowed never to surrender to this highland barbarian.

He was everything her heart warned against—an arrogant scoundrel whose rough good looks spoke of savage pleasures. And thought Kincaid’s scorching kisses fired her blood, she brazenly resisted him…until one rapturous moment quelled their clash of wills, and something far more dangerous than desire threatened to conquer her senses…

  • Hit Me With Your Best Scot

Hit Me With Your Best Scot by Suzanne Enoch

Hit Me With Your Best Scot by Suzanne Enoch is $2.99! This is the third book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders series. I think these historical covers are pretty dreamy, but I’ve never read a single book by this author. Have you? Thoughts?

The MacTaggert brothers have one task:
Find English brides or lose their land!

Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril, is a big, brawny Highlander who doesn’t like being told what to do—not even by his exasperated English mother who is determined to see her eldest son wedded and bedded. However, when he comes to the rescue of an irresistibly beautiful woman, Coll discovers that he may have found his perfect match…

The challenge isn’t that Persephone Jones is famous, wealthy, independent, and smarter than anyone he knows. The problem is that she is not interested in marrying any man—especially not a hot-headed Scot—even if he is the only man who seems to understand who she really is even when she’s not sure herself. When Coll learns that Persephone is actually a lady-in-hiding and someone is willing to kill her for what she stands to inherit…Well, Coll has never been one to turn down a fight. When hearts are involved, nothing comes between a Highlander and his lady.

  • Totally Folked

    Totally Folked by Penny Reid

Totally Folked by Penny Reid is $2.99 at Amazon! It’s available elsewhere, just not on sale. I, for some reason, though there’d be more folksy action here. Maybe a folk singer? But it seems like a standard small town romance with an opposites attract couple.

One unforgettable night leads to an unlikely shared connection, and unlikely connections never go unnoticed by the good folks in Green Valley, Tennessee…

Jackson James follows the rules. He has to. He’s a sheriff’s deputy in a super small town with a super big personality. However, strict adherence to the law during the day has been enjoyably balanced by rakish rules at night. Jackson, typically happy to protect and serve (and serve, and serve), starts questioning the value of wayward evenings when getting laid starts to feel more like being waylaid. Could it be that Green Valley’s most eligible—and notorious—bachelor longs for something (and someone) real?

Mega movie star Raquel Ezra follows only one rule: always leave them wanting more. Studio execs, reporters, audiences, fans, lovers—no one can get enough of the smart, savvy, and sexy bombshell. But when “generous offers” begin to feel more like excessive demands, years of always leaving has the elusive starlet longing for something (and perhaps someone) lasting.

When Raquel abruptly returns to the quirky Tennessee hamlet, her path crosses with the delectable deputy with whom she spent one unforgettable night. Unfortunately, scandal and intrigue soon follow. Raquel and Jackson must decide which is more important: following their rules? Or, at long last, finding something real.

TOTALLY FOLKED is a standalone, contemporary romantic comedy novel and book #1 in the Good Folk: Modern Folktales series.

  • Make Me

    Make Me by Tessa Bailey

Make Me by Tessa Bailey is $2.99! This contemporary romance has come up in a couple Rec Leagues: He’s Not Worthy and He’s Always Loved Her. I was really anticipating this pairing having read the first two books in the series, but ultimately felt disappointed by the pacing. I love a class differences romance with a blue collar hero (yes, give me all your suggestions!).

Construction worker Russell Hart has been head-over-work boots for Abby Sullivan since the moment he laid eyes on her. But he knows a classy, uptown virgin like her could never be truly happy with a rough, blue-collar guy like him. If only she’d stop treating him like her personal hero—a role he craves more than oxygen—maybe he could accept it.

With the future of her family’s hedge fund on her shoulders, Abby barely has time to sleep, let alone find love. And her best friend Russell acting like a sexy, overprotective hulk any time their Super Group goes out in public definitely isn’t helping her single status. But after a near-tragedy lands Russell in her bed for the night, Abby’s suddenly fantasizing about what he looks like shirtless. Chest hair and tattoos—who knew?

As Russell struggles to keep Abby at a safe distance, she begins to see through his tough-talking exterior—and acknowledge her own feelings. Now she’s ready to turn the friend-zone into foreplay…and make him lose control.

I saw several books on the KDD today from my wish list but at $3.99 or $4.99 each I will wait. I think Amazon is taking advantage of the current inflation on everything to push up the prices on the KDD books which is deplorable considering how much money it brings in daily.

“…after a near-tragedy lands Russell in her bed for the night,…” Huh. What kind of near-tragedy might that be, I wonder.

  3. dePizan says:

I gotta say that plot description of “his mother wants to see him wedded and bedded”…
Wedded, sure. The bedded part is kind of yikes.

  4. Aunty Mike says:

Can recommend both the Enoch and the Reid. Both bring a little extra to the respective genres. A little extra humor and character development. Enjoyable and feel good reads.

  5. Maria says:

I’ve enjoyed several of Suzanne Enoch’s books. The historical’s I’ve read had great banter and character/relationship development. I’ve also enjoyed the first two of her Contemporary Samantha Jellicoe series (along the lines of It Takes a Thief). Off to grab up Hit Me with Your Best Scot. Re. Garwood’s The Bride: I loved it.

  6. Lisa F says:

I’ve enjoyed all of these books; all land in the B-A range for me.
