  • Paladin’s Grace

    Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher

RECOMMENDED: Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher is $2.99! AJ loved this one and gave it an A:

All of that is to say: if you stare at walls a lot right now and you can’t really read because everything is just too much all the time? You’re not alone. I get you. And if you want to try a book that gets it too, and will remind you that there can be light at the end of this god-awful tunnel, maybe try this one.

Stephen’s god died on the longest day of the year…

Three years later, Stephen is a broken paladin, living only for the chance to be useful before he dies. But all that changes when he encounters a fugitive named Grace in an alley and witnesses an assassination attempt gone wrong. Now the pair must navigate a web of treachery, beset on all sides by spies and poisoners, while a cryptic killer stalks one step behind…

From the Hugo and Nebula Award winning author of Swordheart and The Twisted Ones comes a saga of murder, magic, and love on the far side of despair.

  • Better Off Wed

Better Off Wed by Susanna Craig

Better Off Wed by Susanna Craig is $1.99 at Amazon! It’s not being price-matched yet. This is book three in the Love and Let Spy series and wow this has a lot of catnip! I’m pretty curious about this one and am considering picking it up.

She’s an avenging angel…who tempts him like the devil…

If Miss Laura Hopkins desired a husband, her beauty, brains, and fortune would make it easy to acquire one. Instead, Laura prefers to put her charms to another purpose entirely. Using the alias, Lady Sterling, Laura helps young women who have been mistreated or compromised by their employers. Some might see it as theft and blackmail. For Laura, it is a small measure of justice. But while in pursuit of her latest target, Laura is unexpectedly aided by a gentleman who announces that he is Lord Sterling.

As a spy for the Crown, Captain Jeremy Addison, Viscount Sterling, has been assigned all manner of dangerous missions, though none as complicated as investigating the beguiling Lady Sterling. Forced to pose as newlyweds at the home of a disreputable earl, Laura and Jeremy forge an unexpected alliance…and a passionate connection. But can such a dangerous masquerade possibly lead to a real, lasting love?

  • Read Between the Lines

Read Between the Lines by Rachel Lacey

Read Between the Lines by Rachel Lacey is $1.99! This is a contemporary f/f romance that has been mentioned on both Book Beat and Hide You Wallet. It was also an Amazon First Reads selection, so double check your ereader before buying!

From award-winning author Rachel Lacey comes a playful romance about a Manhattan bookstore owner and a reclusive author who love to hate—and hate to love—each other.

Books are Rosie Taft’s life. And ever since she took over her mother’s beloved Manhattan bookstore, they’ve become her home too. The only thing missing is her own real-life romance like the ones she loves to read about, and Rosie has an idea of who she might like to sweep her off her feet. She’s struck up a flirty online friendship with lesbian romance author Brie, and what could be more romantic than falling in love with her favorite author?

Jane Breslin works hard to keep her professional and personal lives neatly separated. By day, she works for the family property development business. By night, she puts her steamier side on paper under her pen name: Brie. Jane hasn’t had much luck with her own love life, but her online connection with a loyal reader makes Jane wonder if she could be the one.

When Rosie learns that her bookstore’s lease has been terminated by Jane’s company, romance moves to the back burner. Even though they’re at odds, there’s no denying the sparks that fly every time they’re together. When their online identities are revealed, will Jane be able to write her way to a happy ending, or is Rosie’s heart a closed book?

  • Bookish and the Beast

Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston

Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston is $1.99! Carrie gave this YA romance a C:

Bookish and The Beast isn’t a WOW book, but it’s a comforting, often funny YA read for romance fans who are either geeks or geek-sympathetic and who enjoy Beauty and the Beast variations.

In the third book in Ashley Poston’s Once Upon a Con series, Beauty and the Beast is retold in the beloved Starfield universe.

Rosie Thorne is feeling stuck—on her college application essays, in her small town, and on that mysterious General Sond cosplayer she met at ExcelsiCon. Most of all, she’s stuck in her grief over her mother’s death. Her only solace was her late mother’s library of rare Starfield novels, but even that disappeared when they sold it to pay off hospital bills.

On the other hand, Vance Reigns has been Hollywood royalty for as long as he can remember—with all the privilege and scrutiny that entails. When a tabloid scandal catches up to him, he’s forced to hide out somewhere the paparazzi would never expect to find him: Small Town USA. At least there’s a library in the house. Too bad he doesn’t read.

When Rosie and Vance’s paths collide and a rare book is accidentally destroyed, Rosie finds herself working to repay the debt. And while most Starfield superfans would jump at the chance to work in close proximity to the Vance Reigns, Rosie has discovered something about Vance: he’s a jerk, and she can’t stand him. The feeling is mutual.

But as Vance and Rosie begrudgingly get to know each other, their careful masks come off—and they may just find that there’s more risk in shutting each other out than in opening their hearts.

  1. Todd says:

“Paladin’s Grace” is wonderful. It’s the first in a series, in the same world as “Swordheart”.

  2. Empress of Blandings says:

The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ Charles is 99p/cents

And agree, Paladin’s Grace is a lovely, and a lot of fun as well. I just wish that T. Kingfisher’s books would occasionally be on offer outside the US sometimes!

  3. Kareni says:

    Another vote for Paladin’s Grace.

Also, The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison is still $2.99 for US Kindle readers.

  4. Darlynne says:

Slightly OT: One of the things I love about the Bitchery is its power to influence. For example, the book about knitting two-socks-in-one that Amanda mentioned in her Links post yesterday is a best seller on Amazon US today. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Well done.

  5. MaryK says:

@Darlynne – I often wonder if somewhere an author is going “what the heck happened.”

  6. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Darlynne & MaryK: I always hope that our overlooked and underrated romance writers get a bit of a boost when they’re mentioned in a post here at SBTB.

  7. Darlynne says:

@MaryK: That must feel amazing. The Bitchery is a source for good.

In other news, Jay Posey’s THREE (Legends of the Dustwalker Book 1) is on sale at Amazon US for $1.99. This is good, grim, post-apocalyptic scifi with a splash of hope, so far a series of three books.

  8. @SB Sarah says:

That definitely happens. I get email from authors sometimes thanking us for mentioning a book, boosting a sale, or posting about it because they didn’t know it was on sale in the first place. There are always a few, ‘I had no idea what happened until I saw this post,’ which always makes me smile.

  9. Todd says:

As Tina Fey and … Amy Poulson? … proved, Bitches get stuff done!

  10. FashionablyEvil says:

Judging by the comments above and the hearts on them, the Bitchery is well aware of how good the Paladin books are, but OMG they are SO SO good. I love them all so much. One of the things I adore is that they’re all about complex people who have made mistakes but are trying to make their way in a world that often seems arbitrary and unfair. Kingfisher portrays them with so much empathy and grace and I love it. With all of the books (there are 3 so far) I’ve gotten to the end and had that feeling of, “Wait! No! This can’t be over! I am not ready to leave these characters!!!” 10/10 recommend.

  11. Allison R-B says:

I loved the Depression/Grief rep in PALADIN’S GRACE. It’s good to find that in a romance. Also, it’s frequently laugh-out-loud funny.

  12. Holly Bush says:

The Promise of Jenny Jones by Maggie Osborne is on sale for 99 cents. This is a wonderful book. Maggie hasn’t written for years but her books were one of my gateways to historical romance. Silver Lining and The Wives of Bowie Stone are great, too.

  13. Laura says:

You all have seen that Leo DiCaprio meme where he is sitting on a couch, drinking a beer, smoking a cigarette, and pointing at a television…like he is saying: “Yes! Yes!” Well if we could share memes this is the one I would share right here and now. I read the synopsis of “Better off Wed” OMG a bluestocking type fighting the good fight meets secret agent peer guy and then have to pretend they are married? Whoa! The only catnip missing is one bed, a masked ball, and a house party! Such joy for a buck 99!

  14. Todd says:

If you enjoy the paladin books but want more, “Swordheart” is set in the same world. It’s as good and, once again, the clerics of the White Rat come through for them.
