  • All the Feels

All the Feels by Olivia Dade

All the Feels by Olivia Dade is $2.99! This came out last November and one of my dear friends (Hi Tildy!!) and bookstore manager absolutely loved this one. I haven’t read this one, but have enjoyed Dade’s other contemporary romances.

Following Spoiler Alert, Olivia Dade returns with another utterly charming romantic comedy about a devil-may-care actor—who actually cares more than anyone knows—and the no-nonsense woman hired to keep him in line.

Alexander Woodroe has it all. Charm. Sex appeal. Wealth. Fame. A starring role as Cupid on TV’s biggest show, God of the Gates. But the showrunners have wrecked his character, he’s dogged by old demons, and his post-show future remains uncertain. When all that reckless emotion explodes into a bar fight, the tabloids and public agree: his star is falling.

Enter Lauren Clegg, the former ER therapist hired to keep him in line. Compared to her previous work, watching over handsome but impulsive Alex shouldn’t be especially difficult. But the more time they spend together, the harder it gets to keep her professional remove and her heart intact, especially when she discovers the reasons behind his recklessness…not to mention his Cupid fanfiction habit.

When another scandal lands Alex in major hot water and costs Lauren her job, she’ll have to choose between protecting him and offering him what he really wants—her. But he’s determined to keep his improbably short, impossibly stubborn, and extremely endearing minder in his life any way he can. And on a road trip up the California coast together, he intends to show her exactly what a falling star will do to catch the woman he loves: anything at all.

  • A Reckless Match

A Reckless Match by Kate Bateman

A Reckless Match by Kate Bateman is $2.99! This is book one in a new series by Bateman and was released last September. To be honest, I think  Bateman is such an underrated author and I know Elyse and I enjoyed her previous series, Bow Street Bachelors.

The first in a new regency romance series about two feuding families and reunited childhood enemies whose hatred turns to love.

Maddie Montgomery’s family is in debt, and her hope rests on the rival Davies clan missing their yearly “pledge of goodwill,” ceding the land that separates their estates. With Maddie’s teenage nemesis, Gryffud “Gryff” Davies, Earl of Powys, away, hope is in reach.

But then, Gryff shows up and is stunned that the tomboy he once teased is now a woman. When Gryff and Maddie discover contraband on their land, they realize it can benefit both families. But they’ve also uncovered a dangerous plot, and they need to work together to get out alive. Soon, their hatred for each other starts to feel more like attraction.

Kate Bateman brings crackling banter, steamy romance, and a dash of adventure into the first book in the Ruthless Rivals series.

  • I Flipping Love You

I Flipping Love You by Helena Hunting

I Flipping Love You by Helena Hunting is $2.99! Elyse reviewed this one and was ultimately expecting more humor:

In the end, I Flipping Love You was a decent contemporary if you like home renovation and beach settings, but it didn’t deliver the laughs I was craving.

    SHE’S GOT CURB APPEAL. HE’S A FIXER UPPER…

From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting comes I Flipping Love You, a love story about flipping houses, taking risks, and landing that special someone who’s move-in ready.

Rian Sutter grew up with the finer things in life. Spending summers in the Hamptons was a normal occurrence for her until her parents lost everything years ago. Now Rian and her sister are getting their life, and finances, back on track through real estate. Not only do they buy and sell houses to the rich and famous but they finally have the capital to flip their very own beachfront property. But when she catches the attention of a sexy stranger who snaps up every house from under her, all bets are off…

Pierce Whitfield doesn’t normally demo kitchens, install dry wall, or tear apart a beautiful woman’s dreams. He’s just a down-on-his-luck lawyer who needed a break from the city and agreed to help his brother work on a few homes in the Hamptons. When he first meets Rian, the attraction is undeniable. But when they start competing for the same pieces of prime real estate, the early sparks turn into full-blown fireworks. Can these passionate rivals turn up the heat on their budding romance—without burning down the house?

  • The American Heiress

The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin

The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This historical fiction focuses on the life of an American heiress after she marries an Englishman, and how she adjusts to British society. Reviewers have both praised and lamented the campy, soap opera-esque qualities of the story, so enjoyment may depend on a reader’s level of tolerable melodrama.

Beautiful, vivacious Cora Cash, the wealthiest debutante in America, is spirited away from the glamour and comfort of her Park Avenue mansion and suddenly finds herself Duchess of Wareham, mistress of Lulworth Castle, married to Ivo, the most eligible bachelor in England. As Cora is soon to discover, nothing in this strange new world is quite as it seems. Her handsome new husband is withdrawn and secretive; the English social scene is stuffed with pitfalls and traps; and there are increasingly dangerous forces at work, people who wish she’d never met Ivo in the first place.

  1. This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron is $3.99. I thought I saw this advertised pre-pub as a contemporary, Black, queer take on The Secret Garden, but the reviews lean more toward “Greek mythology and goth vibes”—which could mean I’m misremembering or there’s enough going on for people to single out different things.

I second Tildy on All the Feels. I loved that one! I was “meh” on Spoiler Alert, Olivia Dade’s book in the same universe from last year (not necessary at all to read that in order to read this one). But All the Feels really hit a sweet spot for me. Both H and h were a lot of fun while also deep and complicated but not tortured (though sometimes I like that too). The h’s friendship with her bestie was strong, and I loved that they owned their astringency but with a very strong undercurrent of humor and love. Gotta love a character with a t-shirt collection that includes one that reads “Big Harpy Energy”.

The Bateman and Dade are both great!

Completely off topic, but there’s a nice article asking why Georgette Heyer’s never (sort of) been adapted for film and TV: https://www.vox.com/culture/22970932/georgette-heyer-novels-movies-adaptations-folio-venetia

  7. wingednike says:

I enjoyed both Dade books however my one complaint is that her characters are supposed to be mid-30s to early 40s but to me they feel early 20s. They have a New Adult aura.

  8. LJO says:

I am hooked on Kate Bateman. Hooked.

Sarah MacLean shared the link to the Vox article bc they pulled her quote from a collection for which she did an intro, but did not contact her directly for more updates info.
