HaBO: He Gets a Date Tattooed on His Chest

This HaBO request is from Kelsey, who wants to find this contemporary romance:

Looking for help finding a book that I saw on Instagram. It was being promoted by the author.

All I can remember is that it’s a second chance contemporary romance. She left him at some point, re-enters his life later but he’s now engaged to another woman.

The only other detail I can remember is that he tattooed the date she left him on his chest I think?

I believe you can see the Instagram ads you’ve engaged with in your settings. However, it relies on you having clicked it or interacted with it in some way.

This sounds like it could be RoomHate by Penelope Ward.

    RoomHate by Penelope Ward

If this HABO is indeed Penelope Ward’s RoomHate, as @Marissa believes, be warned that the hero is a real piece of work—judgmental, controlling, and cruel at times—and there is cheating, emotionally if not physically. I went through a period where I read a lot of Ward’s books (whether writing alone or with Vi Keeland)—her STEPBROTHER DEAREST and NEIGHBOR DEAREST are still favorite re-reads—but I got tired of how frequently the plots involved the heroes leaving the women they were involved with because suddenly they reconnected with the woman who was “the one.” (One of the reasons I liked NEIGHBOR DEAREST so much is that the heroine is the woman who gets dumped by the hero in STEPBROTHER DEAREST. It was nice to see her get her HEA.)

  5. Kelsey says:

As far as I can tell from the summary, it’s not RoomHate. The H is actually engaged and there wasn’t anything about H and h living together.

  6. Marissa says:

I was so sure that it was ‘RoomHate’
    Lol 🙂

“He turned his back toward me. “You asked me what this tattoo on my back meant.[…]
I looked at the next set of digits: 0726.
Now, that was a date I could never forget.
“July twenty-sixth was the date I left Providence in 2006.” I stared off for a bit before saying, “The barcode represents your birth and the beginning and end of our relationship.”

    Oh well…I tried…:)

^- K. I suck. I just realized that the PW book has a tatto on the back not the chest..and I don’t remember if he actually gets engaged this gf at some point in the book…(goes back to lurking)

I’m pretty sure it’s Holly Renee’s Where Good Girls Go To Die because I just clicked on the Instagram ad. I haven’t read it, but would love to hear if anyone else has.

  10. Kelsey says:

I’m pretty sure afrikate is right! Where good girls go to die sounds like an almost exact fit. I’ll read it and get back to you guys… CW: looking at reviews sounds like there is cheating.
