Happy Fifth Night of Hanukkah!
It’s my turn to give away some goodies!
Today’s prize is: a box of books + extras!

You will be getting all eight books shown, the socks, and candle. Plus, there are a few more surprises I’m including. I picked all of these up at the independent bookstore where I work, Belmont Books. Just a friendly reminder, as well, to shop local if you can!

Here’s how to enter!
We talk a lot about TV, movies, and podcasts here! I want to know what piece of media was a huge comfort this year!
Standard disclaimers apply: I am not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18, like big stacks, and you cannot lie. Sadly, photobombing cat will not be included, despite his best efforts to climb into any and all boxes.
Comments will close 3 December 2021 at or near 12pm ET, and winner will be announced shortly afterward.
Good luck, Happy Hanukkah, and thank you for being part of Smart Bitches!
Thanks for celebrating with us this year!
Winner update: Congratulations to Jen M! Be sure to check your inbox shortly.

I don’t know why, but my comfort binge this past year has been home improvement shows from Discovery. Most any of the shows delight me, but lately I’m really enjoying Maine Cabin Masters.
Joining the crowd of Ted Lasso devotees!
I was surprised to find out how much I love Bob’s Burgers, and I’m on my second watch through.
Ted Lasso and GBBO soothe my soul.
I found the podcast “You’re Wrong About” this year and absolutely mainlined it.
Ghosts (British version)
Ted Lasso for sure and Lucifer. Both are really funny and I feel like I’m getting a big hug each time I watch it. I’m loooovvinngg Foundation but that’s less a hug and more a bit of drooling over Lee Pace but still comforting 🙂
Lifetime started showing the first 4 or 5 seasons of Castle, which is major comfort watching. I also finally watched Only Murders in the Building, which I loved!
Ted Lasso brought me through some dark times. Listening to Roy interact with his niece Phoebe and counting how many times Keely said “fanks,” was absolute joy!
Ted Lasso — I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it at this point.
Ted Lasso, definitely. And also, a series that I found on the library service Hoopla, American Princess: young New York woman runs away to a Renaissance fair after she finds her fiance cheating right before their wedding.
Watching new and old seasons of Survivor and more recently, Australian Survivor. I’m an admitted reality tv junkie sometimes, it makes the best background noise for all my crafting projects – watch when things get interesting and just listen the rest of the time.
I loved the Swedish series Bonus Family on Netflix. The setting, the storyline of blending families, with all the trials and tribulations-very enjoyable.
The TV show Derry Girls brought me a lot of joy and laughter this year. I find that show absolutely hilarious. Nicola Coughlan is brilliant in everything she does, and the entire cast is a delight.
Ted Lasso
Ted Lasso 100%!!
Because I still live at home, I will second @DiscoDollyDeb on all of her comfort watches. My only additions would be Chopped and Ina Garten.
I rewatched every season of the Great British Bake Off… and The Great Canadian Bake Off… and the Great Australian Bake Off… and the Great South African Bake Off… and the Great Kiwi Bake Off
I was still working (from home) so I didn’t have much time to look at media. I tried to finally see all the buzzy shows that people watched years ago and did see some of them. I watched old Columbo shows. For recent media, I liked Black Widow and was sorry I was too concerned about COVID to brave a theater.
Didn’t watch a lot of tv this year, and didn’t go to the movies, so I’d have to say some of the Twitch streams I watched with entertaining hosts.
I also have been enjoying Schitts Creek!
And when I’m super down I like Grey’s Anatomy, old episodes just playing in the background
Happy Fifth Night of Hanukkah!
I only rarely watch movies; however, I enjoyed a re-watch (perhaps the fourth?) of The Martian with my husband. The movie is fun, but I still contend that the book is better!
reading the comments really drives home that I need to get apple tv so I can watch Ted Lasso. I have been enjoying watching the marvel shows (Wanda Vision, Loki) on disney+. It’s nice having something to watch with my teenagers.
Virgin River, Outlander, Hannah, The Expanse, The Boyz all wonderful to knit to.
May I also please have Linus?
The Baby-Sitter’s Club, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Project Runway have been very comforting to watch with my daughter.
The book Satisfaction Guaranteed. Sweet and steamy wlw Romance that takes place in a Portland OR (my hometown!) sex toy shop.
Also, Schitt’s Creek. Always and forever.
The one show our whole family watches together (teen, pre-teen and cynical Gen X parents) is the 1970’s All Creatures Great and Small. Full of capital-C Characters, heartwarming, occasionally heart-wrenching, and caused my teen to say, “This is so much more meaningful since we got cats.”
Reading the comments I need to watch Ted lasso!
My comfort rewatch show is Fleabag. I have watched those 2 seasons countless times and it’s just so hilariously brilliant.
Podcasts I feel a little more connected to having the hosts of programs in my ears every week, my faves are My favourite Murder, casefile, dark poutine, some place undernieth and no dogs in spaces
I loved “Crash Landing On You” on Netflix. This series was full of the sweetest slow burn love story….plus, it had comedy, mystery, suspense….a very evil bad guy….and just a beautiful male and female actor that are a couple in real life!
Old episodes of GBBO and new youtube channels to me Outsidexbox and Outside Xtra, they talk games and are fun to hang out with.
The Sleep With Me podcast continues to be a great comfort. I listen to it every night when I’m winding down the the meandering dulcet tones put me to sleep.
Hallmark movies again and again. Plus some light fluffy romance novels, Raya the Last Dragon, and Luca. Also music. Turning off all the visual “noise” and listening to Amos Lee. His new song this year “Worry No More” really wrapped me in a hug.
TV this year we did a lot of streaming over the summer
Webtoons debuted the comic Batman: Wayne Family Adventures, and it was, actually and truly, everything I’ve ever wanted from comics. Cass is important in it, Jason is loved, Duke lives in the Manor, Steph is fully-fledged outside her relationship with Tim, Babs is Oracle, Damian isn’t weirdly whitewashed, and Bruce loves his kids even when he’s failing at Dadding. There’s only one a week and they’re short, but oh man. So so good.
My roomie and I also watched all of Grace and Frankie, and while I definitely thought the earlier seasons were stronger than the later ones, I did really love and find comforting the prioritization of not just women’s needs but of platonic relationships. That’s…not something we’re good at in society.
I watched a lot of BBC stuff. They have several great series, Call the Midwife, Grantchester, Death in Paradise to name a few. And Hallmark movies of course. Really, just anything but the news!!
The single piece of Media that filled my heart with joy was the swearing in of Joseph Robinet Biden as our 46th President and Saviour! I only wish my husband had lived to see it– I swear it was “he who must be named” election that killed him!
It took me seconds to come with an answer. I hope you have a joyous and blessed Hanukkah!
Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy has become my ultimate comfort rewatch (even though the pandemic intrudes on some of the episodes). It’s just so delightful to watch him eating his way through Italy – the sheer joy of excellent food and gorgeous scenery. I find it deeply soothing.
GBBO, the Repair Shop, the Great Pottery Throw Down, and Ted Lasso have also been clutch. All That Glitters (GBBO/the Pottery for jewelry making) has also been a nice surprise. It takes a bit to warm up, but all the contestants are precious and I wanted them all to do well.
Jumping on the Ted Lasso love bandwagon. Because it helped and Roy Kent is fucking everything. But also podcasts: Bitch Sesh, Keep It, Newcomers, The Movie You Die With, Los Culturistas, Hysteria, Add to Cart; and especially the Romance ones: Heaving Bosoms, Fated Mates, Learning the Tropes, Smart Podcast Trashy Books. All of them (and many others), kept me informed, entertained snd engaged this year.
Mario Kart as a family/with our 6yo; rereading books or skipping ahead in a book and then going back to read through, easier to do with a library paperback than an ebook.
Really enjoying The Repair Shop while knitting from Netflix or The Great Flower Fight, which I watch w the 6yo.
Count me as another Ted Lasso fan. Also all of the Marvel shows that came out this past year.
