  • Pretty Little Wife

Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane

RECOMMENDED: Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane is $2.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, which feature a lot of Harlequin category romances. Elyse reviewed this one and gave it an A:

The story is really a cat-and-mouse game between Lila and Aaron (or whoever moved him), Lila and the police, and Lila and Aaron’s friends and family. It’s layers upon layers of deception, plots, counter-plots, and moments where I thought I figured out what was happening and was wrong.

That’s all I can really say without spoiling this wonderful, twisty thriller. Just trust me. You’ll love it.

Debut author Darby Kane thrills with this twisty domestic suspense novel that asks one central question: shouldn’t a dead husband stay dead?

Lila Ridgefield lives in an idyllic college town, but not everything is what it seems. Lila isn’t what she seems.A student vanished months ago. Now, Lila’s husband, Aaron, is also missing. At first these cases are treated as horrible coincidences until it’s discovered the student is really the third of three unexplained disappearances over the last few years. The police are desperate to find the connection, if there even is one. Little do they know they might be stumbling over only part of the truth….

With the small town in an uproar, everyone is worried about the whereabouts of their beloved high school teacher. Everyone except Lila, his wife. She’s definitely confused about her missing husband but only because she was the last person to see his body, and now it’s gone.

  • Satisfaction Guaranteed

    Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters

RECOMMENDED: Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters is $2.99! Both Tara and Shana reviewed this one and gave it an A:

Shana: I stayed up late reading Satisfaction Guaranteed because I just couldn’t put it down. This book reminded me why I love contemporary romances—experiencing the heady rush of falling in love through characters that feel so real, they could walk off the page and into one of my dinner parties. Reading this brought me such joy.

Opposites attract in this playful and laugh-out-loud rom-com from Lambda Award finalist Karelia Stetz-Waters.

Cade Elgin has a life and career in New York City, and she’s determined to get back to both as soon as possible after her aunt’s funeral in Portland. However, when she unexpectedly inherits her aunt’s sex toy store — and has to save it from foreclosure — Cade realizes she’s not going anywhere. But making Share the Love profitable won’t be as easy as Cade had hoped. Her new partner has an infuriating lack of business sense, and an infuriating ability to turn Cade on.

Selena Mathis knows that nothing is more important than saving Share the Love. Not her pride, not her inconvenient attraction toward her new business partner. Cade may be more buttoned-up than Selena usually goes for, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how to turn the store around. But the more they work together, the harder it becomes for Selena to ignore her growing feelings for Cade. And she starts to wonder if there is something more important than saving Share the Love.

  • The Bookshop of Second Chances

The Bookshop of Second Chances by Jackie Fraser

The Bookshop of Second Chances by Jackie Fraser is $2.99! Sarah gave this one a C:

The aspect that kept me reading, aside from how little the novel asked of my emotions, was Thea, who is an excellent narrator. I liked her perspective and how easy it was to pick up where I left off, and I very much enjoyed the parts where she recognizes and calls people out on their silliness.

Set in a charming little Scottish town, The Bookshop of Second Chances is an uplifting story of fresh starts and new beginnings by a hugely talented debut author.

Thea’s having a bad month. Not only has she been made redundant, she’s also discovered her husband of nearly twenty years is sleeping with one of her friends. And he’s not sorry – he’s leaving.

Bewildered and lost, Thea doesn’t know what to do. But, when she learns the great-uncle she barely knew has died and left her his huge collection of second-hand books and a house in the Scottish Lowlands, she seems to have been offered a second chance.

Running away to a little town where no one knows her seems like exactly what Thea needs. But when she meets the aristocratic Maltravers brothers – grumpy bookshop owner Edward and his estranged brother Charles, Lord Hollinshaw – her new life quickly becomes just as complicated as the life she was running from…

An enchanting story of Scottish lords, second-hand books, new beginnings and second chances perfect for fans of Cressida McLaughlin, Veronica Henry, Rachel Lucas and Jenny Colgan.

  • Playing By Her Rules

Playing By Her Rules by Amy Andrews

Playing By Her Rules by Amy Andrews is $2.99! This is a sports contemporary romance with a rugby-playing hero and second chance romance. This is the first book in a series, but the other books are also on sale! Many loved the slow burn of the second chance romance between the hero and heroine.

In this grudge match, the first to score…

When style columnist Matilda Kent accidentally lets slip that she was once involved with the captain of the Sydney Smoke rugby team, she suddenly finds herself elevated to the position she’s always wanted – feature writer. The catch? She’s stuck doing a six-part series on her ex. Still, there’s no way she can turn down a promotion…or the chance to dish the dirt on the guy who so callously broke her heart.

    …could win it all!

Tanner Stone wants to be involved in a feature series about as much as he wants to snap an Achilles. But the thought of seeing Tilly again is a bonus—and has him more worked up than he wants to admit. Only he’s not prepared for how different she is – all cool and professional. His Tilly is still in there, though…and he still wants her, now more than ever. All he has to do is charm her into giving him a rematch. And this time, winner takes all!

On the cover of PLAYING BY HER RULES looks like he’s trying to open a gigantic pistachio. I have never heard of any rules for opening pistachios except for not doing it in bed.

  2. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Lots of Harlequins on sale today, with individual titles and box sets from many of their lines, including Presents, Desire, Intrigue, Medical, Love Inspired, Historical, and Romance lines, most of which were published within the past year. This includes Caitlin Crews’s HP, THE BRIDE HE STOLE FOR CHRISTMAS ($1.99 today). I enjoyed this story of a woman, numb from a devastating breakup, who agrees to marry a thoroughly awful man. But the night before the wedding, guess who shows up? Collect a gold star if you said the man who broke her heart. Crews, as usual, plays with elements of the Harlequin Presents template: in this case, the majority of the book takes place over the course of less than 24 hours and consists of long conversations between the h&h as they dissect what went wrong in their relationship and determine if they (specifically the hero) can grow emotionally enough to fix it. Plenty of angst to go around and some nice sexy-times too. Recommended.

Also from Crews: her Christmas duet: CHRISTMAS IN THE KING’S BED and HIS SCANDALOUS CHRISTMAS PRINCESS (both $1.99–and the latter is also available from KU). PRINCESS features a blind heroine and KING’S BED has a

    virgin hero.

‘Satisfaction Guaranteed’ was so good. 🙂

  4. Star says:

Is assigning people to write features when they have a personal connection to the subject really the done thing? That sounds like the sort of conflict of interest that would get you pulled from a project rather than forced on it, but hey, the world never stops surprising me, so maybe it’s industry standard.

  5. Maggie says:

@Star, the setup of the book definitely makes a personal connection sound like a terrible idea, but I do think reporting can benefit from a connection sometimes. I’ve been thinking about this in general as I’ve been reading the flood of pieces to come out in the wake of Michael Nesmith’s death. Those who knew him and followed his career are writing far better articles (with much greater understanding of his cultural importance) than those who didn’t. Anyone can do research, but a bit of extra care goes a long way. Without some personal connection, some stories never do get told.

  6. squee_me says:

Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy is on sale for 99¢.

  7. Star says:

@Maggie – That totally makes sense, especially in the context of a retrospective.
