A Game of Fate
A Game of Fate by Scarlett St. Clair is 99c at Amazon! I feel like St. Clair has a huge following in the self-pub circles. I also believe this one is a retelling of her popular series starting with A Touch of Darkness, a Hades and Persephone retelling, but told through the eyes of Hades instead.

Men Explain Things to Me
RECOMMENDED: Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit is $1.99. I loved this collection of essays. The first essay is the author at this fancy academic party. She mentions her area of academia to a male attendee and he promptly begins to explain this particular academic book that deals with the same topic, not knowing the author is the one who wrote said book. Some of the essays are funny and some made me cry.
In her comic, scathing essay “Men Explain Things to Me,” Rebecca Solnit took on what often goes wrong in conversations between men and women. She wrote about men who wrongly assume they know things and wrongly assume women don’t, about why this arises, and how this aspect of the gender wars works, airing some of her own hilariously awful encounters.
She ends on a serious note— because the ultimate problem is the silencing of women who have something to say, including those saying things like, “He’s trying to kill me!”
This book features that now-classic essay with six perfect complements, including an examination of the great feminist writer Virginia Woolf ’s embrace of mystery, of not knowing, of doubt and ambiguity, a highly original inquiry into marriage equality, and a terrifying survey of the scope of contemporary violence against women.

How to Love Your Elf
How to Love Your Elf by Kerrelyn Sparks is $1.99! This was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet. It’s book one in the spin off series, Embraced by Magic. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first trilogy, but it’s possible that Sparks’ writing might not work for me.
Raised in isolation on the magic-shrouded Isle of the Moon, five girls became five sisters. Now women, they are ready to claim their places in the world—and perhaps change it forever . . .
FLAME AND FORTUNE
Sorcha knew the mission was dangerous. Leaving the safe grounds of her brother’s kingdom and parlaying with the elves across their border . . . well, treachery seemed at least as likely as true peace. But to support her sister, Sorcha would brave far more than the underhanded ways of the elves. Or so she thought, before she was taken hostage.
Of course, her captors didn’t count on her particular abilities—or on the help of the Woodsman, the mysterious thief who made his home in the forest. He saw the battle from the trees, saw the soldier attacking against incredible odds to save a comrade—and then saw the valiant fighter revealed as Princess Sorcha of Norveshka. He can’t tell if he wants to kidnap her or kiss her. But despite Sorcha’s stubbornness, his inconvenient honor, and a rebellion on the cusp of full war, something burns between them that neither can let go . . .

The Jane Austen Project
The Jane Austen Project by Kathleen A. Flynn is $1.99! I’m really not sure how to describe this one as it seems like a whole mashup of genres: historical fiction, time travel, romance. It seems interesting though! Have any of you read this one, by chance?
Perfect for fans of Jane Austen, this engrossing debut novel offers an unusual twist on the legacy of one of the world’s most celebrated and beloved authors: Two researchers from the future are sent back in time to meet Jane and recover a suspected unpublished novel.
London England, 1815: Two travelers—Rachel Katzman and Liam Finucane—arrive in a field, disheveled and weighed down with hidden money. They are not what they seem, but colleagues from a technologically advanced future, posing as a doctor and his spinster sister. While Rachel and Liam aren’t the first team of time travelers, their mission is the most audacious yet: meet, befriend, and steal from Jane Austen.
Carefully selected and rigorously trained by The Royal Institute for Special Topics in Physics, disaster-relief doctor Rachel and actor-turned-scholar Liam have little in common excerpt their extraordinary circumstances. Circumstances that call for Rachel to stifle her independent nature and let Liam take the lead as they infiltrate Austen’s circle via her favorite brother, Henry.
But diagnosing Jane’s fatal illness and obtaining an unpublished novel hinted at in her letters pose enough of a challenge without the convolutions of living a lie. While her friendship with Jane deepens and her relationship with Liam grows complicated, Rachel fights to reconcile her true self with the constrictions of 19th century society. As their portal to the future prepares to close, Rachel and Liam struggle with their directive to leave history as they found it…however heartbreaking that proves.

I noticed a couple of titles going free at Amazon US at the moment:
Kati Wilde’s Secret Santa (novella – this is KU)
Amy Jo Cousins’ The Girl Next Door (not KU, may be free at other vendors)
I haven’t read this Wilde, but I know I’ve read another by her. I’ve read the Cousins, it’s the straight-er entry (all-sex-positive straight “sex puppy” man and bisexual woman) entry in her Bend or Break series.
@Lace: SECRET SANTA is my absolute favorite of Wilde’s all-very-good Christmas novellas trilogy (ALL HE WANTS FOR CHRISTMAS, THE WEDDING NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, and SECRET SANTA). It’s sexy, angsty, and all-the-feels. Highly recommended.
The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare is on sale for $1.99. I think it’s one day only. LOVE THIS BOOK!
I loved “The Jane Austen Project,” and I’m really picky about fictional portrayals of Austen and her family. It’s clever, funny, and emotional and I really wish Flynn would write more fiction.
