SBTB Hanukkah Celebration 2021 – Night Three Giveaway!

Hanukkah 2021 with a framed picture of SBTB's original ladies and a lit menorah

Happy Third Night of Hanukkah!

This giveaway bundle comes from Elyse, who gathered some lovely, lovely knitting and crafting items!

A set of books, a Hanukkah craft bag yarn and coffee and a mug on a white fleece backdrop

Here’s what’s inside, per Elyse:

    • A project bag in Hanukkah fabric from Silver Bird Studios
    • The mug is by Pawley Studios and sold by my favorite LYS, Fibre. I love these mugs because they keep stuff really hot or cold. I actually drink my iced coffee in them.
    • The yarn is by Dye Mad yarns. It’s 2 skeins of worsted weight in their colorway Happy Challah Days and is a blend of super wash merino and alpaca
    • And then the coffee I found at Rhinebeck from Knit Coffee Company. It’s their Knitter’s Blend, unground.

Ed. note: HAPPY CHALLAH DAYS I LOVE IT.

Omg this is so beautiful! I made some postcards and a lil zine this year. It reminded me that I need to do more of this!

  2. rachel says:

I’m working on a couple of cross-stitch projects and just finished a little ornament to send to a friend. I’m trying my first stitch-along this year, which has been very intimidating, but fun to get encouragement from so many other crafters. 🙂

  3. Sita says:

I finally got back into cross stitching and knitting this year. I just finished a cross stitch with flowers. I also made a cowl for a gift.

  4. Sarah d says:

I made a temperature gradient blanket for my oldest friend’s first child, based on the nine months of her gestation period! And it turned out so much bigger than I anticipated, but hopefully she can use it much longer now. Even tried my hand at embroidery to make a tag with flowers and the temperature key

  5. Malin says:

I’ve knitted two baby blankets and am working on two different scarves (one Doctor Who scarf with mainly blues and greens rather than the standard 4th Doctor colours) and one in a dark pomegranate red in a double moss stitch inspired by the infamous scarf in Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well”. The yarn for the red scarf is so incredibly soft, it’s a joy to knit with.

  6. Ashley C says:

Knitting is definitely therapeutic for me. I’ve finished hats, cowls, and a shawl so far this year. I currently have 3 different shawls on various needles lol. Hoping to at least finish 2 of those before the year is done!

  7. KarenF says:

I’m a terrible crafter – I wish I had made something, and I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit, so this would be lovely.

What did I make? Does a 150,000 piece of fanfiction for Ikemen Sengoku count?

  8. TrishJ says:

I am definitely not a crafty person. I’ve been baking a lot this year. Bread making has been a very stress releasing outlet for me. And the result is delicious.

  9. Rachael Fillingame says:

I have two somethings I’ve made: the first traditional one is getting into cross stitch and creating cute little animals to hang around my workplace. The second is that I made more conscious shopping decisions and put quality over quantity.

  10. Jasmin Rodriguez says:

I’ve started sewing again! Recently I successfully made an 18th-century costume.

  11. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

I knit but due to mom’s prolonged illness, I haven’t been able to concentrate. Instead, I’ve been making gnomes. I can’t seemto post pix, but they are cute.

  12. Rhonda says:

I’ve been lucky that I have been able to quilt and knit a lot this year. But I think I’m most excited about the small reversible project bags that I made for my virtual knitting group as holiday gifts.

  13. cayenne says:

I usually use a blowtorch, power tools, and lots of hammers to make jewellery, but my regular studio has been closed since March 2020 and my condo building frowns on forbids using those in units; they’re OK with the quiet, un-fiery equipment, but there’s a limit what I can do with hand tools and no way to anneal, solder, or fuse, and I missed making shiny stuff. So I made mixed chain-and-beads mask holders that can be used post-COVID as necklaces and/or bracelets (not for sale, just for friends & fam). Still miss my blowtorch, tho 🙁

  14. Phosteres says:

I started this year crocheting hats and scarves from thrifted yarn to donate through my child’s school whilst I was gaming online. I even started to knit! Of course I started with socks. I’ve not gotten very far, but learning how to Continental knit and Norwegian purl and cast on have been interesting.

Recently, I crocheted myself a new hat out of a ball of very ugly thrifted yarn. It’s something, but I love it! Yesterday, I finished making a red bowtie for a kobold plush given to me for my birthday. I did all the stitching with needle and thread and it’s gone from a silly whim into sublime reality.

  15. Rae Alley says:

The most ridiculous and annoying but gratifying project was the Xenomorph I made for my husband. It has metal wire in it to help it stand and have a poseable tail….it’s a bit bananas

  16. DonnaMarie says:

I wouldn’t say made so much as started. I hand a hand applique project I worked on while in AZ currently in a box waiting to be loaded up for the trip to IL so TSA doesn’t confiscate my embroidery scissors. Here I’ve been working on a guardian angel crossstitch ( https://serendipitydesigns.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=10&products_id=198 ) for my god-granddaughter, the best thing that happened this year.

  17. Leanne H. says:

I *tried* to make my first knitted hat (first time knitting with circular needles). Alas, it did not go well. So, I unpicked it and made a regular ol’ scarf instead. 🙂 Happy Hanukkah everyone!

  18. Darlynne says:

I made many baked goods and still counting. Some family favorites, others to test my skills, hopefully no decorating involved. GBBO won’t be calling, but it’s been fun and soothing. Thanks for the giveaway.

  19. Amanda says:

I made a few sweaters for myself this year. I usually don’t make much for myself so this was a nice change.

  20. I crocheted a life size doll, 4’8” it is to be part of an exhibit this Jan in SF. It was meant to be a representative of my non binary gendered offspring. And they wrote a 4+stanza poem which was buried n side the doll to give it heart and soul.

Ask and I will send you photos

    Chag Sameach

  21. Becks says:

I made chocolate chip cookies over and over again until, in my family’s opinion, I perfected the recipe. Resting the dough overnight is key. Hard to wait but so worth it!

  22. I designed and made prototypes of several DIY stitchable masks with silly Medieval marginalia on them, which are now available in my shop. Also crocheted a prototype pineapple pattern gilet (which needs to be redone, because adjustments) and decided I AM going to finish that elven hooded cowl in variegated greens before year’s end.

  23. Michelle Orloff says:

I didn’t “make” anything this year 🙁 I actually shipped part of my stash to a friend who’s picking up knitting. But I did “make” (write) 3 books this year, so that’s something! 🙂 I would love to have an excuse to knit again.

  24. Karen Lauterwasser says:

I’m in the middle of knitting a shawl (Casapinka’s “Talk to the Paw”). It started out with leftovers from a mystery shawl (“Knights Who Say Knit” by Mary Annabella). And then there’s all the Instant Pot recipes I tried – sort of under duress, because I was without a stove for six months. Very educational.

  25. Annette Duarte says:

I actually don’t knit but I have a good friend that is an avid knitter. This would be a great gift for her!

  26. Erica says:

I am a knitter, but I hurt my left hand in May and could not knit for several months. I started playing around with Procreate on my iPad (as I only needed my right hand). I always thought of making art as beyond my reach because I don’t have a natural gift. I learned otherwise by learning digital painting. I’ve created cards, prints and even a poster. It’s opened up a whole new way of creating and even a new perspective on myself.

  27. PamG says:

Not terribly crafty or cooky here. Mostly I made coffee, a few book reviews on Am*z*n, and some organizational spreadsheets around my reading and work. Ah, well, maybe next year.

  28. Katta says:

I’ve been slowly making a quilt, sewing during endless work meetings to stay sane.

  29. Jen Creevy says:

I haven’t finished them yet, but I’m working on socks for my Colorado kid in his school colors. They should be warm!

  30. Elizabeth says:

Early this year I crocheted several granny squares for a blanket a group of us were putting together for a family who’s loved one passed. It ended up with squares of random sizes, shapes, and colors. It was the most beautiful blanket I ever saw. <3

  31. Hannah says:

I have been crocheting a massive blanket for the past year, because my crojo has been seriously lacking. It started as a gift for my friend, and then she got pregnant, and had the baby in the time span since I’ve started it, so I’m hoping it will be done before the baby starts college.

  32. Elizabeth says:

Earlier this year I crocheted several granny squares for a blanket we were putting together for a friend’s family after said friend passed away.

The blanket ended up with a bunch of random granny square sizes, shapes, and colors. It was the most beautiful blanket I ever saw. <3

  33. LynnD says:

I actually got quite a few things done, and got a few skeins out of my stash, yay me!

The funkiest and most challenging I did was Stephen West’s Winterlights shawl from last year’s Hiberknitalong.

  34. Geralynn Ross says:

I don’t know how to knit, yet !! But, I cook and bake all the time.:) I’m especially proud of creating a wonderful recipe for multigrain sourdough bread.

  35. Melanie says:

I knit several tiny hats for my cousin’s daughter’s baby, who was born eight weeks premature weighing less than two pounds. Happily, the baby has now outgrown the smallest hats, and is home from the hospital.

  36. Barbara Bibel says:

I don’t know how to knit, but I would like to learn.

  37. Kate says:

I used to constantly knit and then COVID lockdown happened. I couldn’t knit. I don’t know why. I’ve just stared again by finishing a shawl that was left as an UFO. I used to knit socks and sweaters. Hopefully the new year will full of knitting!

  38. Carol says:

besides a mess, I’ve done a lot of pictures of my Kpop minifigs having adventures!

  39. Shoshana says:

First, I loved getting to see the yarn fair in upstate New York, thank you so much for sharing with us!

I’ve made so many blankets this year I’ve lost count, mostly crochet, as I have been experimenting with different shapes; hexagon, square, rectangle, etc. All have been lots of fun, but by far the best part is gifting the finished blankets to friends knowing it will keep them cozy for many years to come. 🙂

  40. I taught myself how to do double-sided knitting so I could knit a baby blanket with a family of elephants for my new niece and not have to worry about lining the back.
