Happy First Night of Hanukkah!
Yes, Hanukkah is preposterously early this year – only a few days away from being a “Thanksgivakkuh.” But that doesn’t mean we can’t nosh leftovers and latkes, and celebrate!
Every year we do a giveaway for each night of Hanukkah, and I wouldn’t dream of skipping this year. We’ve got lovely things to give away, and I love celebrating with you.
Today’s prize is: a Kate Spade Greta Court Ina bag in Dusty Peony!

Isn’t it pretty? (I love shopping for the giveaways each year, I confess.)

Our new cat! I was a bit nervous adding another animal when we seemed to have finally achieved a kind of balance with the pets we had, but our new guy is so funny and sweet. He’s a real character that definitely brightens our days.
Cute animals and my kid’s love of them. Sharing book love with you all. Thank you Sarah for celebrating with us! I love the positivity in these comment threads.
My two nephews-the older one is super curious and smart and reminds me how to look at the world in a cool kid way, and the younger one is still a sweet snuggly bug who’s just starting to talk and loves books (yay!) I just love getting to spend time with them.
My family – my nephews have kept me engaged with the positive.
Happy Hanukkah!
Knitting brought light into my life this year. This was the one thing that could calm me down and relax me no matter what.
Happy Hanukkah!
SBTB brought light and humor into my life this year. So did my daughter when she visited after a two and a half year absence.
Welcoming our family’s newest additions! So far this year this means 2 dogs and a cat. And coming up I’m becoming an aunt for the first time! Cant wait to welcome her into our family!
The vaccine, the furbabies, being in a position to donate to help others.
My new mom gang is definitely the light I needed. My son started first grade in person (last year was completely remote) and I’ve met so many badass mom’s while waiting for school to get out. Really needed the solidarity during theses early exhausting years of momhood.
The vaccine. Pure joy when my 90 yr old mom got it. We are still cautious but at least it has brought some hope and a small amount of increased socializing.
This year has been really rough for our family. My daughters are definitely the shining light in my life!
My cat Chandler always brings me joy. It has been life saving to have him around since the pandemic started
Fanfiction–especially Check, Please fanfiction was light in my life this year. I’ve been almost incapable of finishing books. Even ones I know I’d normally like, but I can read and finish 100k word fics like nothing. Plus I discovered so many amazing fanfiction writers whose work makes me happy so thank you to all of them for getting me through this miserable year.
My 3 year old nieces. Watching them grow and develop into unique little people.
Books, but only because I finally finished my Master’s degree! It was like a great weight was lifted, and I could read for pleasure again!
Finally getting back to work in-person after 14 months of working from home
It may seem strange but, a great new job, I like the work and the people which when this your day five days a week it’s so important.
My cat Luna and watching my garden grow over the summer.
Prayer and love. My older sister and best friend was diagnosed with stage 4 rare pancreatic cancer in May and passesd away in August. We prayed together every night and when I would forget, she would remind me.on those night I would jokingly say, this is gonna be short, but it never was. We remained positive because of prayer inspite of the grim prognosis. It is keeping me together and still bringing me light now.
escaping with books (thanks SBTB), traveling again, celebrating my dad’s 90th + 1 birthday in person with friends and family, the vaccine!
My dog brought me so much joy this past year!
My Own True Love had major surgery on his leg on New Year’s Eve. He was relatively immobile for several months. We started a habit of watching one episode of a television series each night after dinner. His leg healed, but the new habit continued. Date night every night! (Also weaning me from a bad habit of working late.)
The relief and happiness of a clean oncology report for my father carried the majority of the year for me.
Light and joy this year with my 2 new rescue dogs, this awesome website and my amazing daughter!
I taught myself knitting, which has opened up a world of patterns for sweaters and such. I’m much slower at it than crochet…but it’s still been a delight to make a new thing
My daughter brought me light this year. Seeing her overcome and thrive while dealing with her mental health made me more grateful for what we have. Thank you for the opportunity.
Baby nieces and nephews! I can get all the baby squish and then send them home.
Oh what a beautiful purse! Excellent choice!
The bright spots I’ve had are my two cats. They would spend all day hanging out with me when I was working at home and now that I’m back to the office, they are super snuggly and happy to see me when I get home. It is just the best comfort to snuggle with cats.
My family and Animal Crossing brought light into my world this year. Happy Hanukkah!
This year hasn’t been notable for its light. Whether I’m contemplating the political, the personal, the societal, or the personnel, it’s all been pretty doom & gloom. So commenting without lying is an issue. Imma not gonna make shit up for a chance at a purse.
Anyway, I was contemplating the hellhole that work (in a secondary school) has become, and it suddenly hit me that there was an actual source of light. The kids have been great! And, in a way, so have we. It”s like–after a year of absence–we’ve all rediscovered a sense of appreciation for one another, and that appreciation manifests itself in a perceptible uptick in courtesy and kindness. So that’s my little ray of comfort this year.
So, in that spirit, I’m wishing the Bitchery many little rays of light and joy as y’all celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Saturnalia, Hogfather, or whatever, and a glowing and hopeful new year.
Getting vaccinated and then feeling comfortable getting together with vaccinated family and friends.
I’d have to say my husband brought the most light to my year, as corny as that might sound. He has been the most supportive person in my life, but especially this year. He has been by my side cheering me on through surgery, doctor appointments, highs and lows. Without him I don’t know how I would have made it through.
My grandson definitely brought some light into my life this year. Everything is new and amazing when you are two years old
My nine-month-old twin granddaughters! They are so sweet, and complete opposites in personalities!
wildlife visiting our backyard
My dogs!
My mom moved to be near my husband and myself, which is a great gift and source of brightness.
Happy Hanukkah!
Happy Hanukkah to all of you, too! I started a gratitude journal at the beginning of this year with the goal of writing down one thing I was thankful for each day. No matter if it was just a sentence fragment–keeping the journal brought a little light into my life every day and I’m so thankful to the person who recommended that I keep the journal in the first place!
My 18 month old nephew. My next youngest nephew is in high school so the little one is a delight.
We adopted a new pup into our family, she’s a little chiweenie (chihuahua + dachshund) and her name is Alexis Rose. She’s melded really well into our family and became best friends with our 70lbs pup. It’s so cute to see them play and cuddle together!
