  • Time’s Convert

    Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness

Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness is $2.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. I believe reading this is most beneficial if you’ve finished the All Souls Trilogy, though correct me if I’m wrong. If it’s the latter, Lara wrote a great post about why the series is such a favorite for her.

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches, a novel about what it takes to become a vampire.

On the battlefields of the American Revolution, Matthew de Clermont meets Marcus MacNeil, a young surgeon from Massachusetts, during a moment of political awakening when it seems that the world is on the brink of a brighter future. When Matthew offers him a chance at immortality and a new life free from the restraints of his puritanical upbringing, Marcus seizes the opportunity to become a vampire. But his transformation is not an easy one and the ancient traditions and responsibilities of the de Clermont family clash with Marcus’s deeply held beliefs in liberty, equality, and brotherhood.

Fast-forward to contemporary Paris, where Phoebe Taylor—the young employee at Sotheby’s whom Marcus has fallen for—is about to embark on her own journey to immortality. Though the modernized version of the process at first seems uncomplicated, the couple discovers that the challenges facing a human who wishes to be a vampire are no less formidable than they were in the eighteenth century. The shadows that Marcus believed he’d escaped centuries ago may return to haunt them both—forever.

A passionate love story and a fascinating exploration of the power of tradition and the possibilities not just for change but for revolution, Time’s Convert channels the supernatural world-building and slow-burning romance that made the All Souls Trilogy instant bestsellers to illuminate a new and vital moment in history, and a love affair that will bridge centuries.

  • The Other Miss Bridgerton

The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn is $2.99! This is the third book in the Rokesbys series and also described as a Bridgertons prequel. However, readers say this works fine as a standalone. Quinn is an auto-buy for a lot of romance readers, though some were unable to forgive the hero for kidnapping the heroine.

She was in the wrong place…

Fiercely independent and adventurous, Poppy Bridgerton will only wed a suitor whose keen intellect and interests match her own. Sadly, none of the fools from her London season qualify. While visiting a friend on the Dorset coast, Poppy is pleasantly surprised to discover a smugglers’ hideaway tucked inside a cave. But her delight turns to dismay when two pirates kidnap her and take her aboard a ship, leaving her bound and gagged on the captain’s bed…

He found her at the wrong time…

Known to society as a rascal and reckless privateer, Captain Andrew James Rokesby actually transports essential goods and documents for the British government. Setting sail on a time-sensitive voyage to Portugal, he’s stunned to find a woman waiting for him in his cabin. Surely, his imagination is getting the better of him. But no, she is very real—and his duty to the Crown means he’s stuck with her.

Can two wrongs make the most perfect right?

When Andrew learns that she is a Bridgerton, he knows he will likely have to wed her to avert a scandal—though Poppy has no idea that he is the son of an earl and neighbor to her aristocratic cousins in Kent. On the high seas, their war of words soon gives way to an intoxicating passion. But when Andrew’s secret is revealed, will his declaration of love be enough to capture her heart…?

  • Off the Ice

Off the Ice by Avon Gale

Off the Ice by Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn is $1.99! This is a very steamy M/M romance with a hockey player hero going back to school to finish his MBA, and having a major crush on one his professors. There is a bit of a taboo element with the teacher/student dynamic, though the hockey hero is older than your average student. Your mileage may vary with this trope.

    He’s hot for teacher

NHL star Tristan Holt may be at the top of his game, but he’s already thinking one play ahead. Hitting the books in the off-season means he’ll have a business degree to fall back on when it’s time to hang up his hockey skates.

But his straightforward plan is complicated by his undeniable attraction to his sexy sociology professor, Sebastian Cruz.

Impressed by Tristan’s brain as well as his brawn, Sebastian can’t help lusting after the gorgeous jock. With tenure on the line, Sebastian won’t break the rules by becoming involved with one of his students—at least, not until the end of term. Once final grades are posted, though, their naughty mutual fantasies can become reality.

Tristan’s not sure he’s up for being the poster boy for openly gay hockey players, but Sebastian’s never been the type of man to keep his sexuality—or his relationships—in the closet. For Tristan, being with Sebastian might mean risking more than just his heart.

  • Capturing the Earl

Capturing the Earl by A.S. Fenichel

Capturing the Earl by A.S. Fenichel is 99c! This is book three in The Wallflowers of West End series. I think these covers are really neat and I’m pretty sure we featured them on Cover Awe. However, I’ve heard middling things about the series.

The friendship of four young ladies has created an indestructible bond to protect one another from the perils of love and marriage…

After the demise of her friend’s disastrous marriage, Mercedes Parsons isn’t about to let the widowed Wallflower of West Lane, Lady Aurora Radcliff, undertake another perilous trip to the altar. At least, not before the bridegroom-to-be is thoroughly investigated. If only Mercy could stop her uncharacteristic daydreaming about Wesley Renshaw’s charm, his intellect, his dashing good looks. After all, the earl has already set his sights on her best friend! She must keep her wits about her and avoid giving into temptation.

Wesley is both irritated and intrigued by the machinations of Mercy—He cannot let her cleverness and beauty distract him. He needs to marry her friend, Aurora, so he can reclaim his family’s ancestral home. A wrong he has hoped to right his entire life. Besides, who is penniless spinster Mercedes Parsons to decide whom he can and cannot marry? Yet while he admires her unwavering loyalty to her friends, he decides it’s high time the misguided woman had a dose of her own medicine. Two can play at this spying game. But they are both embarked on a dangerous charade. And it won’t be merely Mercy’s reputation at risk—or her heart on the line—as Wesley comes to the inescapable conclusion that he has found the right woman at exactly the wrong time.

  1. Jill Q. says:

I found The Other Ms. Bridgerton a very silly and fun book. It has pirates in the way Pirates of Penzance has pirates, so if you’re looking for skullduggery and high adventure, you’ll be disappointed, but if you’re looking for froth to fill a few hours, it’s good.
I hadn’t been read the Bridgerton books when I read this and was fine without the knowledge. Truthfully, I can’t even remember a reason why this *had* to be a Bridgerton book other than maybe the fact they sell well.

  2. DonnaMarie says:

I’ll admit, I was a little let down by Time’s Convert. I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy more of Marcus & Phoebe, just like I’d enjoy the hell out of a book about Gallowglass, but I think it lacked focus. Jumping from Marcus’ past to Phoebe’s transition to Matthew and Diane’s parenting concerns made for a choppy read. YMMV, but if you want to spend more time with these charact, definitely worth the price of admission.

  3. Jeannette says:

I enjoyed Avon Gale’s Off the Ice, much more than the later books in the trilogy. If you have a chance, though, read the earlier series, about the minor league hockey players. It is superb, with truly memorable characters.

  5. FashionablyEvil says:

The Other Miss Bridgerton didn’t work for me—I found the pirate/kidnapping thing irritating (and I have serious questions about bathing/toileting and how revolting Poppy must have smelled after the voyage.) Also, they have sex after they’ve both been kidnapped and, I dunno, I’m just one of those people who finds the threat of imminent torture and death to be profoundly unromantic and unsexy.
