  • Song of the Forever Rains

Song of the Forever Rains by E.J. Mellow

Song of the Forever Rains by E.J. Mellow is $1.99! This one was published by Amazon, so it’s only available there. On Goodreads, there does seem to be some confusion on whether this falls into adult romance or young adult. Others say it splits the different at new adult.

From the award-winning author of the Dreamland series comes a new dark romantic fantasy about a young woman finding hope in her powers of destruction.

The Thief Kingdom is a place hidden within the world of Aadlior. Many whisper of its existence, but few have found this place, where magic and pleasure abound. There, the mysterious Thief King reigns supreme with the help of the Mousai, a trio of revered and feared sorceresses.

Larkyra Bassette may be the youngest of the Mousai, but when she sings her voice has the power to slay monsters. When it’s discovered the Duke of Lachlan is siphoning a poisonous drug from the Thief Kingdom and using it to abuse his tenants, Larkyra is offered her first solo mission to stop the duke. Eager to prove herself, Larkyra accepts by posing as the duke’s potential bride. But her plans grow complicated when she finds herself drawn to Lord Darius Mekenna, Lachlan’s rightful heir. Soon she suspects Darius has his own motivations for ridding Lachlan of the corrupt duke. Larkyra and Darius must learn to trust each other if there is to be any hope of saving the people of Lachlan—and themselves.

Welcome to the world of Aadilor, where lords and ladies can be murderers and thieves, and the most alluring notes are often the deadliest. Dare to listen?

  • Wall Street Titan

Wall Street Titan by Anna Zaires

Wall Street Titan by Anna Zaires is $2.49! This was a previous Hide Your Wallet pick for me and I preordered it. Have I read it yet? Nope. It appears to be a duet for both characters to get their HEA. Not sure if the first one has any sort of cliffhanger before continuing.

    A billionaire who wants a perfect wife…

At thirty-five, Marcus Carelli has it all: wealth, power, and the kind of looks that leave women breathless. A self-made billionaire, he heads one of the largest hedge funds on Wall Street and can take down major corporations with a single word. The only thing he’s missing? A wife who’d be as big of an achievement as the billions in his bank account.

    A cat lady who needs a date…

Twenty-six-year-old bookstore clerk Emma Walsh has it on good authority that she’s a cat lady. She doesn’t necessarily agree with that assessment, but it’s hard to argue with the facts. Raggedy clothes covered with cat hair? Check. Last professional haircut? Over a year ago. Oh, and three cats in a tiny Brooklyn studio? Yep, she’s got those.

And yes, fine, she hasn’t had a date since… well, she can’t recall. But that part is fixable. Isn’t that what the dating sites are for?

    A case of mistaken identity…

One high-end matchmaker, one dating app, one mix-up that changes everything… Opposites may attract, but can this last?

  • Submission Impossible

    Submission Impossible by Lexi Blake

Submission Impossible by Lexi Blake is $2.49! I think for right now, this price is only available about Amazon. This is book one in the spin-off series of Masters and Mercenaries, which blends romantic suspense and BDSM romance.

    He loves the sweet life

Greg Hutchins is reluctantly adulting these days. He’s settled in his job, recently bought his first house, and has a network of friends he can call family. But there’s something missing in his life, and he can’t quite put his finger on it. When he’s assigned to a case that involves investigating a biochemical company, he meets a woman who’s sweeter than any candy. Maybe she’s just the thing to make him feel complete.

    She’s ready for the future

Noelle LaVigne has faced plenty of tragedy in her life, but she’s on the right path now. Between her new job and settling into a new city, she’s got no time for dating or relationships. She’s worked hard to get where she is, and no man is going to push her off track. Except the minute Hutch crosses her path she can’t seem to think about anything but the handsome security expert. He’s there to find a corporate spy, but late-night work sessions make her think they’ve both found something much more meaningful.

A twist they never saw coming

When the case becomes dangerous, both of their futures are on the line. And when the bullets start flying, they will have to learn to trust in each other if they hope to survive.

  • Half a Soul

Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater

Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater is $1.99! This is book one in the Regency Faerie Tales series and the upcoming book three was listed in the latest Hide Your Wallet. There’s another YA vs. Adult debate for this one as well. I do know there is no sexual content in this one.

“Whimsical, witty, and brimming over with charm” (India Holton), Olivia Atwater’s delightful debut will transport you to a magical version of Regency England, where the only thing more meddlesome than a fairy is a marriage-minded mother!

It’s difficult to find a husband in Regency England when you’re a young lady with only half a soul.

Ever since she was cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings has had no sense of fear or embarrassment—an unfortunate condition that leaves her prone to accidental scandal. Dora hopes to be a quiet, sensible wallflower during the London Season—but when Elias Wilder, the strange, handsome, and utterly ill-mannered Lord Sorcier, discovers her condition, she is instead drawn into peculiar and dangerous faerie affairs.

If her reputation can survive both her curse and her sudden connection with the least-liked man in all high society, then she and her family may yet reclaim their normal place in the world. But the longer Dora spends with Elias, the more she begins to suspect that one may indeed fall in love even with only half a soul.

  1. Ren Benton/Lena Brassard says:

Tor’s book club is giving away GIDEON THE NINTH through October 8.

    https://ebookclub.tor.com/

It was sold to me as a manor murder mystery in space with necromancers, and it lived up to that description. I know someone else who read it because it was hyped as a “lesbian romance” and hated it because the relationship is toxic af and not remotely a romance, much less a Romance. Gideon has hey-how-YOU-doin’ interest in several people, none of whom are Harrow. They grew up together, they’re antagonistic toward each other, and Gideon is working with Harrow only because (a) it’s Gideon’s one shot at freedom and (b) Harrow is the devil Gideon knows in a room full of devils. It’s not even little-r romantic, so please don’t go into it destined for disappointment.

  2. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Anna Zaires used to write (and perhaps still does write) very dark romance with lots of abduction & captivity themes. She seems to be moving into lighter-themed work now, as you get tell by the illustrated cover for the complete Wall Street Titan duet:

  3. Shawna says:

I got SONG OF THE FOREVER RAINS free with Amazon Prime First Picks: it ended up a DNF about 40% through for me: the heroine’s family was just … Too many of all the special things. The hero/heroine had hardly spent any time together yet (and not in a slow-burn way). Finally, the heroine’s characterization felt inconsistent: is she the Mary Sue, or the mischievous thief?? I liked the concept, so the execution was disappointing for me.

  4. Kit says:

Found the most Amazon prime first picks a bit lacklustre to be honest. Didn’t bother choosing one in September and probably won’t this month either. They’ll just remain unread!

  5. KitBee says:

I’m a sucker for the magical Regency genre, so I really enjoyed HALF A SOUL. Worth reading if you like the premise (and don’t mind the lack of sexual content)!

  6. JenM says:

There are plenty of months when I don’t pick up any of Amazon’s First reads, however, this month, one of the selections is Tahira in Bloom by Farah Heron. I’m not usually into YA, but I recently read one of her adult contemporaries, Accidentally Engaged, and adored it, so I figured I’d go ahead and grab this (especially since it’s free to Prime subscribers).

  7. JudyW says:

I read the Wall Street Titan and gave it a pretty poor grade. I thought the power imbalance between the H/h was a bit “creepy”, scary and made me uncomfortable with his ruthless behavior. Also it was an “undisclosed” cliffhanger which kinda bugs me when that happens. I don’t know if that has been rectified yet.
