Anchored Hearts
Anchored Hearts by Priscilla Oliveras is $2.99! This is book two in the Keys to Love series and has a second chance romance. This isn’t my favorite trope, but I enjoyed this book. If you like really emotional contemporaries, this will tick that box.
Key West is the ideal backdrop for the summer read you need! Perfect for fans of Abby Jimenez, Jasmine Guillory, and Jen DeLuca, this gorgeous and stirring new love story from the author of Island Affair will touch your heart…
Award-winning photographer Alejandro Miranda hasn’t been home to Key West in years–not since he left to explore broader horizons with his papi’s warning echoing in his ears. He wouldn’t be heading there now if it wasn’t for an injury requiring months of recuperation. The drama of a prodigal son returning to his familia is bad enough, but coming home to the island paradise also means coming face to face with the girl he left behind–the one who was supposed to be by his side all along…
Anamaría Navarro was shattered when Alejandro took off without her. Traveling the world was their plan, not just his. But after her father’s heart attack, there was no way she could leave–not even for the man she loved. Now ensconced in the family trade as a firefighter and paramedic, with a side hustle as a personal trainer, Anamaría is dismayed that just the sight of Alejandro is enough to rekindle the flame she’s worked years to put out. And as motherly meddling pushes them together, the heat of their attraction only climbs higher. Can they learn to trust again, before the Key West sun sets on their chance at happiness?

All In
RECOMMENDED: All In by Simona Ahrnstedt is $1.99! Redheadedgirl gave the book an A:
I felt like this was full of Shakespearean drama, and scheming families, and hot sex, and gorgeous clothes, but also some important things to say about how the world is functioning. There’s a lot going on, though, and the ending a tad rushed.
In the cutthroat world of Sweden’s financial elite, no one knows that better than corporate raider David Hammar. Ruthless. Notorious. Unstoppable. He’s out to hijack the ultimate prize, Investum. After years of planning, all the players are in place; he needs just one member of the aristocratic owning family on his side–Natalia De la Grip.
Elegant, brilliant, driven to succeed in a man’s world, Natalia is curious about David’s unexpected invitation to lunch. Everyone knows that he is rich, dangerous, unethical; she soon discovers he is also deeply scarred.
The attraction between these two is impossible, but the long Swedish nights unfold an affair that will bring to light shocking secrets, forever alter a family, and force both Natalia and David to confront their innermost fears and desires.

Daughter of the Blood
Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop is $2.99! This is the first book in The Black Jewels series and was recommended in our Inner Goth Rec League. Ellen notes that this series deserves all of the content warnings. I know for many readers this was a formative series for their fantasy reading. What are your thoguhts?
The Dark Kingdom is preparing itself for the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy–the arrival of a new Queen, a Witch who will wield more power than even the High Lord of Hell himself. But this new ruler is young, and very susceptible to influence and corruption; whoever controls her controls the Darkness. And now, three sworn enemies begin a ruthless game of politics and intrigue, magic and betrayal, and the destiny of an entire world is at stake.

Tinderbox
Tinderbox by Rachel Grant is FREE! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this one! This is the first book in the Flashpoint series, which is more romantic suspense than contemporary. Readers say the competence porn level is high.
In the volatile tinderbox of the Horn of Africa, Morgan Adler has made the paleoanthropological find of a lifetime. The discovery brings her to the attention of a warlord eager to claim both Morgan and the fossils, forcing her to make a desperate dash to the nearby US military base to beg for protection.
Master Sergeant Pax Blanchard has orders to intercept Dr. Adler before she reaches the base, and in so doing saves her life. After a harrowing afternoon he safely delivers her to his commanders, only to find his responsibilities toward protecting the obstinate archaeologist have only just begun.
Morgan and Pax are forced to work together in the Djiboutian desert heat, but it is the fire that ignites between them that threatens to combust them both. For the Green Beret, involvement with the woman he must protect is a threat to his career, while for the archaeologist, the soldier is everything she never wanted but somehow can’t resist. When Morgan uncovers a mystery surrounding Djibouti’s most scarce and vital resource, the danger to her reaches the flashpoint. For Pax, protecting her is no longer a matter of following orders, and he’ll risk everything to bring her back alive.

I feel like a broken record, but every time ALL IN comes up I feel I must chime in. As a connoisseur of the secret baby trope, I cannot recommend this one enough. It’s everything RHG said, plus more secret babies than have ever appeared in any book before or since.
Also, the Dark Jewels series is epic fantasy storytelling. Love it.
I loved ALL IN. I would almost classify it as one of those soapy S&F (“shopping and fucking”) books so popular in the late-1970s/early-1980s.
Amelia Wilde’s SECRET BEAST is a 99-cent KDD today. This is the first book in a trilogy and is a very dark retelling of Beauty & the Beast. I enjoyed the entire series, but be forewarned that the book ends on a cliffhanger and has many triggers, including violence and dub-con.
I bought “All In” the last time it was on sale and devoured the rest of the series. Unless Amazon has fixed it since– and I see they have not– the author’s page is screwed up (on US Amazon, at least). “All In” and “Falling” are on one author page, while everything else written by this author is on a different author page and there’s no overall “series link.” The third book is “High Risk”, which is accessible from this Simona Ahrnstedt page, and the other two are on this other Simona Ahrnstedt page.
The last time All In came up, I wasn’t persuaded by the raves but WS devouring the series is pretty compelling.
I started on Anne Bishop’s books (I think from a review here) and she’s become an auto-buy for me. This is the first and it deserves any and all content/trigger warnings.
I’m clearly the exception as I began All In but put it aside as it did not grab me.
I began reading Anne Bishop with her Others books. I read The Black Jewels series later. I cannot tell you how many times I put them down and yet picked them up again to continue reading; they are VERY dark and have scenes that stay with me despite my wish they would not.
I enjoyed Tinderbox a lot – a solid B read. I read the next two books in the series because I enjoyed it so much. I didn’t think they were as good, but still very enjoyable.
If you enjoy romantic suspense I recommend Tinderbox, and Rachel grant in general. She balances the romance and the suspense, and she writes competent heroines. Her archaeology background comes though in her attention to details and knowledge. In Tinderbox, the hero comes across a little Alpha, but she balances that by having a heroine who is truly able to take care of herself.
Meant to add, this series, Flashpoint, by Rachel Grant is available on KU in the US and you can add on the audiobooks for $1.99 right now.
I liked Anchored Hearts and preferred it to the first book in the series.
Tinderbox is a good RS. I liked the whole Flashpoint series.
