How Sweet It Is
How Sweet It Is by Dylann Newton is $1.99! I believe this was Newton’s debut and it release relatively recently. It’s an opposites attract romance between a horror writer and a wedding planner. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one!
Opposites attract in this charming debut romantic comedy, perfect for fans of Beach Read.
Kate Sweet is famous for creating the perfect happily-ever-after moment for her clients’ dream weddings. So how is it that her best friend has roped her into planning a bestselling horror writer’s book launch?
Drake Matthews is tired of the spotlight, tired of his reputation as the King of Nightmares. He’s really a nice guy! More than anything, the next book he wants to write is a romance based on his grandparents. But to get that chance, this event has to be successful. And the reticent writer will have to work with the adorably bubbly Kate Sweet.
But just as the two are learning to trust each other, secrets come out that could take down the launch, their relationship, and both their careers. Can Kate find a way to save their jobs and their chance at true love?

Heiress in Red Silk
The Heiress in Red Silk by Madeline Hunter is $2.99! This is book two in A Duke’s Heiress series and Catherine gave it a B-:
Heiress in Red Silk is a book that hooked right into my emotions and gave me what I wanted and needed from a story right now. While it was by no means a flawless romance, I adored the heroine, and there was one scene that hit me straight in the heart.
A sparkling new love story from a historical romance legend, perfect for Bridgerton fans and readers of Sabrina Jeffries, Eloisa James, and Grace Burrowes.
In one life-changing windfall, Rosamund Jameson goes from struggling shopkeeper to heiress—and co-owner of a new business. Not only will her sudden fortune allow her to move her millinery shop to fashionable London, but Rosamund will be able to provide her younger sister with a proper entry into society. The only hitch for resourceful Rosamund is her arrogant, infuriatingly handsome business partner…
Kevin Radnor is shocked that his late uncle, the Duke of Hollinburgh, bequeathed half his company to a total stranger—worse, a beguiling beauty who can only hinder his enterprise. But Rosamund insists on an active, equal partnership, so Kevin embarks on a plan: a seduction that will lead to a marriage of convenience, giving Rosamund the social status she needs, and guaranteeing him the silent partner he desires. Yet as this charismatic gentleman sets his flirtation in motion, he begins to wonder who is seducing whom—and if he can learn to share himself body and mind, without losing his heart . . .

Satisfaction Guaranteed
RECOMMENDED: Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters is $2.99! Both Tara and Shana reviewed this one and gave it an A:
Shana: I stayed up late reading Satisfaction Guaranteed because I just couldn’t put it down. This book reminded me why I love contemporary romances—experiencing the heady rush of falling in love through characters that feel so real, they could walk off the page and into one of my dinner parties. Reading this brought me such joy.
Opposites attract in this playful and laugh-out-loud rom-com from Lambda Award finalist Karelia Stetz-Waters.
Cade Elgin has a life and career in New York City, and she’s determined to get back to both as soon as possible after her aunt’s funeral in Portland. However, when she unexpectedly inherits her aunt’s sex toy store — and has to save it from foreclosure — Cade realizes she’s not going anywhere. But making Share the Love profitable won’t be as easy as Cade had hoped. Her new partner has an infuriating lack of business sense, and an infuriating ability to turn Cade on.
Selena Mathis knows that nothing is more important than saving Share the Love. Not her pride, not her inconvenient attraction toward her new business partner. Cade may be more buttoned-up than Selena usually goes for, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how to turn the store around. But the more they work together, the harder it becomes for Selena to ignore her growing feelings for Cade. And she starts to wonder if there is something more important than saving Share the Love.

The Spinster and the Rake
The Spinster and the Rake by Eva Devon is 99c! This is the first book in a new historical romance series that released this February. The book description says it’s a mix between My Fair Lady and Pride and Prejudice. Have you read this one?
The marriage game is afoot in this clever blend of My Fair Lady meets Pride and Prejudice with a twist!
Edward Stanhope, the icy Duke of Thornfield, likes his life in a certain order. Give him a strong drink, a good book, and his dog for company, and he’s content. But when he goes to his library and finds a woman sitting in his chair, petting his dog, what starts as a request for her to leave quickly turns to a fiery battle of wits, leading to a steamy kiss that could ruin them both if they were caught.
So of course, damn it all, that’s when Edward’s aunt walks in, and thereafter announces Miss Georgiana Bly is the future Duchess of Thornfield.
Georgiana was content to be a spinster, spending her days reading and working to keep her family out of debt. But now her days are spent locked away with a growly duke, learning how to be the perfect duchess, and her nights spent fighting the undeniable attraction to a man who was never meant for her.
As their wedding day approaches, the attraction between them burns hot and fierce, but is it enough to melt the duke’s chilly facade?

I mostly write horror myself, so I’m biased. But the “He really is a nice guy!” line in the blurb of How Sweet It Is is making me raise my eyebrows. People are often surprised to learn I write horror, because I’m “way too nice” for that apparently!
I love Madelaine Hunter but I was pretty meh about Heiress for Hire so I haven’t read Heiress in Red Silk yet…however if a SBTB reviewer gives it a B+ I think it will be my next read.
@Varian:
I remember seeing a webcomic years ago about a horror author who tells a fan she gets her inspiration from dreams. IIRC The final panel is of her having a tea party on giant toadstools with a cute cartoon rabbit; she says something like “Disembowelment? That’s a great idea!” I’d post it, but I can’t find it.
Anyway, I choose to believe the comic is based on you.
‘Satisfaction Guaranteed’ was a winner for me.
‘How Sweet It Is’ = tempting; I do like an author as a MC; but ‘Beach Read’ (while a good book about being a writer) wasn’t a satisfying romance for me so the comparison is kind of eh. On the other hand, it’s only $1.99. What the heck. 😉
@Varian Ross I wish I could remember where I saw it, but remember a fun generalisation about authors stating that the people writing about unspeakable monsters or horrible murders are pleasant and retiring, whereas romance writers who tend to be thought of as fluffy and unrealistic are complete sharks. There’s an Allie Brosh blog post about a birthday party in which an unsuspecting helper gets terrorised by the party guests. It contains a cartoon showing all these ‘cute’ girls snapping round to hunt him down, which is how I visualise things going down whenever an enemy crosses the romance community.
