  • Angels’ Blood

    Angels’ Blood by Nalini Singh

Angels’ Blood by Nalini Singh is $3.99! It’s part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals and is being price-matched. This is the first book in the very popular Guild Hunter series. I remember reading this a long time ago, but didn’t continue with the series because I prefer my series to be one couple per book. I know Singh switches to other couples later on, but I am impatient.

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best – but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option—even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break.

  • The Love Study

The Love Study by Kris Ripper

RECOMMENDED: The Love Study by Kris Ripper is $1.99! Ripper’s next book in this series is also on sale. Catherine gave this a B:

The Love Study is funny, sweet, clever, and maybe slightly self-conscious. I spent about a third of the book going ‘awww’ and another third giggling in delight.

What happens when the search for the perfect date goes perfectly wrong?

Don’t miss this charming romantic comedy from critically acclaimed author Kris Ripper.

Declan has commitment issues. He’s been an office temp for literally years now, and his friends delight in telling people that he left his last boyfriend at the altar.

And that’s all true. But he’s starting to think it’s time to start working on his issues. Maybe.

When Declan meets Sidney—a popular nonbinary YouTuber with an advice show—an opportunity presents itself: as part of The Love Study, Declan will go on a series of dates arranged by Sidney and report back on how the date went in the next episode.

The dates are…sort of blah. It’s not Sidney’s fault; the folks participating are (mostly) great people, but there’s no chemistry there. Maybe Declan’s just broken.

Or maybe the problem is that the only person he’s feeling chemistry with is Sidney.

  • The Return

    The Return by Rachel Harrison

RECOMMENDED: The Return by Rachel Harrison is $2.99! Carrie gave this spooky book a B+:

This a scary story because scary things happen (chases and gore and jump scares, oh my!) but it’s a powerful story because it’s really about friendship, truth, and grief. There’s so much powerful emotional and universal truth behind the body horror, and so much woven in commentary on everything from how patriarchy damages women, to how women bond for survival even as they judge one another, to how our college selves change after college ends.

A group of friends reunite after one of them has returned from a mysterious two-year disappearance in this edgy and haunting debut.

Julie is missing, and the missing don’t often return. But Elise knows Julie better than anyone, and she feels in her bones that her best friend is out there, and that one day she’ll come back. She’s right. Two years to the day that Julie went missing, she reappears with no memory of where she’s been or what happened to her.

Along with Molly and Mae, their two close friends from college, the women decide to reunite at a remote inn. But the second Elise sees Julie, she knows something is wrong—she’s emaciated, with sallow skin and odd appetites. And as the weekend unfurls, it becomes impossible to deny that the Julie who vanished two years ago is not the same Julie who came back. But then who—or what—is she?

  • Getaway Girl

    Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey

Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey is  $2.99 ! This is a contemporary romance and one that I’m excited about because I absolutely love Charleston, SC. Some readers were conflicted about the fact that the hero was indeed ready to marry his fiancee before everything went tits up. A couple of the later books in this series are also on sale.

This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape…

After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom. A groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, southern drawl she should not be noticing…

Elijah Montgomery Du Pont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. Grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison—and the cruel hand of fate—might not give him a choice.

There was a lot (a LOT) I liked about ‘The Love Study,’ but by the end of it I was like ‘if these are friends who the hell are Declan’s enemies.’ He did a relationship-ending bad thing, yes. But he did it as the result of a panic attack, which is a real thing, and for the next six years his friends all used that as The Big Joke and never let him get over it. 🙁

  2. Lisa F says:

I thiiink the Singh would be my pick in this bunch.

  3. omphale says:

@chacha1 I hear you. I really enjoyed this book and the follow-up The Hate Project (enough that even though I’m not much for poly romances I’m planning to check out the third in the series), but it was confusing that they never understood how hurtful that was and how much it reinforced Dec’s anxiety.

  4. Susan Harkavy says:

If there are any Elin Hilderbrand fans, Amazon has several of her books on sale today. They rarely seem to be discounted. I love her books, but they aren’t romances, even though they usually contain love stories.

  5. DonnaMarie says:

Singh’s Guild Hunters series is the best. I like the Psy-Changling books, but I might not have read them if I hadn’t read books from this series first. I love that the books will cycle from Elena & Raphael to other characters and back again. You all need to get on board with this series.

I just reserved my copy of the next installment yesterday. At any actual bookstore that was not B&N. And it’s about Illium & Aodhan. ILIUM & AODHAN people! If you are reading this series, you know that my grabby hands are already twitching.

  6. Darlynne says:

I loved GETAWAY GIRL. Talk about complicated family dynamics, history, lack of forgiveness. And still, Addison and Elijah are great characters. I didn’t know there are other getaway books, so thanks.

  7. Marci says:

Speaking of Nalini Singh – Chirp audiobooks has several of her audiobooks on sale for $2.99 right now. It doesn’t look like Angels’ Blood is one of the sale deals. But the first 4 audiobooks in her Psy Changeling Trinity series are. (I’m not sure if Chirp audiobooks are available outside the US or not.)

  8. FashionablyEvil says:

Getaway Girl was okay as far as it went, but I am recalling some seriously problematic behavior on the part of the hero—for me, it definitely crossed the line into “controlling and a big red flag.”

  9. Courtney M says:

@DonnaMarie I am SO EXCITED for Ilium and Aodhan! For me, I’m definitely a bigger fan of the Psy-Changeling series. That’s very much on brand for me though, because if you give me a choice between reading a book about shifters of vampires I’ll pick shifters every time. And the Guild Hunter novels, for all that they are billed as books about angels are very much angel/vampire books, complete with a lot of the typical vampire tropes, such as heroes who are hundreds or thousands of years old and heroines in in their mid-20s, etc.

But I don’t want to discourage people from picking the book up — “not as much my catnip as Singh’s other series” and “I enjoyed it despite having tropes that I’m not a huge fan of” are still high praise as far I’m concerned. I’ll probably do a series reread before the new book comes out.

  10. wingednike says:

I loved Getaway Girl but there are definite “that wouldn’t fly in real life” moments.

That said, I think my favorite aspect was that they were best friends that met later in life. All the best friend stories I’ve seen have featured toddlers to teens. “We were in kinder…We met in high school…etc”

  11. Steffi says:

I adored The Love Study. No, there wasn’t a lot of conflict in it but during the dumpster fire that the world has been for over a year now it felt like the warm gentle hug and safe space my brain needed. The author is also super sweet and genderqueer, which makes this book ownvoices as well.

I also really loved the sequel, The Hate Project, which is Oscar’s story.
