  • The Fire in the Glass

The Fire in the Glass by Jacquelyn Benson

The Fire in the Glass by Jacquelyn Benson is 99c! Recently, we featured Benson’s more action/adventure title and people in the comments also mentioned how much they loved this one. It’s  more of a paranormal historical or historical fantasy with a medium main character.

London, 1914. Someone is draining the blood of the city’s mediums. Lily Albright knows who’s next.

The unacknowledged bastard daughter of the Earl of Torrington, Lily is haunted by visions of the future that she can never change. When she foresees the death of her dearest friend, she realizes the circumstances of that yet-to-be murder match those of a series of brutal and mysterious crimes.

If she can find the killer before he strikes, maybe this time she can finally thwart fate and save someone she loves.

As Lily’s investigation takes her to a bedchamber where one of society’s most desirable widows lies dead, she realizes she can’t do this alone. She needs help from the reclusive Lord Strangford, a man haunted by his own unusual powers. To pursue the path of a killer, Lily must ask Strangford to face unimaginable horrors – and is compelled to reveal her darkest secrets to a man she has little reason to trust.

Somewhere in the city lies a murderer hell-bent on an unspeakable harvest, one that could reshape the future of the human race. To stop him, Lily must face a past rife with betrayal—and embrace the power she has spent her entire life trying to escape.

  • The Good Luck Charm

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting is $2.99! If you’re looking for a sweet, second chance romance, readers on Goodreads recommend this one. But others wished the heroine had more of a backbone when dealing with things.

Is it love, or is she just his good luck charm? New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting brilliantly captures the hilarity and heartache of first love and second chances in her sexy new romantic comedy.

Lilah isn’t sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she’s no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.

Ethan wants his glory days back. And that includes having Lilah by his side. With her, he was magic. They were magic. All he has to do is make her see that.

Just when Lilah might finally be ready to let Ethan in, though, she finds out their reunion might have nothing to do with love and everything to do with improving his game. But Ethan’s already lost her once, and even if it costs him his career, he’ll do anything to keep from losing her again.

  • The Clockwork Dagger

The Clockwork Dagger by Beth Cato

The Clockwork Dagger by Beth Cato is $1.99 at most vendors! This is a steampunk novel with romantic elements. Readers love Cato’s writing, but felt the characterization was rather exaggerated and didn’t feel real. It has a 3.6-star rating on Goodreads.

Full of magic, mystery, and romance, an enchanting steampunk fantasy debut in the bestselling vein of Trudi Canavan and Gail Carriger.

Orphaned as a child, Octavia Leander was doomed to grow up on the streets until Miss Percival saved her and taught her to become a medician. Gifted with incredible powers, the young healer is about to embark on her first mission, visiting suffering cities in the far reaches of the war-scarred realm. But the airship on which she is traveling is plagued by a series of strange and disturbing occurrences, including murder, and Octavia herself is threatened.

Suddenly, she is caught up in a flurry of intrigue: the dashingly attractive steward may be one of the infamous Clockwork Daggers—the Queen’s spies and assassins—and her cabin-mate harbors disturbing secrets. But the danger is only beginning, for Octavia discovers that the deadly conspiracy aboard the airship may reach the crown itself.

Live hard, love harder, and make your own rules. Those are the cornerstones the Men of Haven bleed by. Heaven help the poor bastards who get between them and the women they’ve claimed as their own.

    Rough & Tumble

Jace Kennedy lives for the challenge. He sees Vivienne Moore’s hidden wild side and knows she’s his perfect match, if only he can break it free. Earning her trust is a task unlike any he’s faced so far, but Jace didn’t get where he is by giving up.

    Wild & Sweet

Zeke doesn’t play by the rules, but he’s exactly what Gabrielle needs in her life. He’ll show her the fierce protection that comes from belonging to a man like him.

No one will hurt his woman, even if it means putting the very men who saved his own life at risk.

    Claim & Protect

Trevor Raines lives on the edge of legal. A good guy doing bad things to save lives, the only rules he follows are his own, and there’s nothing in the world that will change that. Until Natalie Jordan walks into his life…

Trevor had no interest in settling down, but there’s something entirely too appealing about the woman he can’t stay away from. There’s only one thing to do—change his plans…and hers. When Natalie’s ex resurfaces to threaten her new life, Trevor will move heaven and earth to make sure the bastard can’t hurt her again. Except saving Natalie means outing his own secrets—and it could mean losing her forever…

  1. JoJo says:

I LOVED the Men of Haven series! Some more than others, but I have reread a number of them. I like Rhenna Morgan’s storytelling. She is one of my auto buys. And like all my favorite authors…. she doesn’t write fast enough! 🙂

  2. hng23 says:

    Seconded! I think it’s time for a re-read…

  3. Ellea says:

I LOVED Fire in the Glass as well as the 2nd book in the series. It combines my three favorite genres; romance, historical, and fantasy. The romance is slow and going to be drawn out through the series, but the main characters have kind of a unique twist to their relationship that is keeping me hooked.

  4. ReadKnitSnark says:

I really loved The Clockwork Dagger and need to reread, soonest. Then dig out the sequel and find out how the story ends. (It’s a duology.)(IIRC.)(It’s 2021, I can’t trust my memory.)

  5. Valor says:

This is probably not the place to discuss it, but I bought the Men of Haven set, and in the first book, the “hero” invites the heroine on a motorcycle ride, and when she asks for a helmet, he refuses to give her one, and basically tells her that wanting a helmet is “uptight”. Not romantic, not heroic.
