  • The Devil Comes Courting

The Devil Comes Courting by Courtney Milan

RECOMMENDED: The Devil Comes Courting by Courtney Milan is $2.49! Catherine gave this one an A:

It is a book about the delight of discovery: of new things, of one’s own capabilities, of love, of things that were thought lost. It’s a book that addresses serious topics seriously, but it is also a book that sparkles.

Captain Grayson Hunter knows the battle to complete the first worldwide telegraphic network will be fierce, and he intends to win it by any means necessary. When he hears about a reclusive genius who has figured out how to slash the cost of telegraphic transmissions, he vows to do whatever it takes to get the man in his employ.

Except the reclusive genius is not a man, and she’s not looking for employment.

Amelia Smith was born in Shanghai, and taken in by English missionaries. She’s not interested in Captain Hunter’s promises or his ambitions. But the harder he tries to convince her, the more she realizes that there is something she wants from him: She wants everything. And she’ll have to crack the frozen shell he’s made of his heart to get it.

  • Wolf Gone Wild

Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross

Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross is $2.49! This was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet and I’ve personally enjoyed Cross’ fantasy and paranormal romances previously. This has a witch and a werewolf pairing and sounds a lot like me catnip.

What’s the worst thing that can happen to a werewolf? Unable to shift for three months, Mateo Cruz knows all too well. His wolf has taken up residence in his head, taunting him night and day with vividly violent and carnal thoughts. Convinced he’s cursed, he needs the help of a powerful witch before he literally goes insane.

Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rules of her coven–no werewolves. They’re known for being moody and volatile. So, when a distempered, dangerous werewolf strolls into the bar and almost strangles one of her late-night customers, she’s ready to bounce him through the door. But the desperation in his eyes when he begs her to help him softens her heart and convinces her to bend the rules.

What Evie doesn’t know is that Mateo’s wolf has a mind of his own. And now that she’s in his sights, he wants only one thing. Her.

  • The Marriage Contract

The Marriage Contract by Katee Robert

RECOMMENDED: The Marriage Contract by Katee Robert is $1.99! This is an arranged marriage plot in a modern setting and does deal with characters in the mob, which I know is a big off-button for some readers, so FYI. Elyse’s reviewed this one and she gave it an A:

If you had told me that I’d really love a book about the children of two Boston mob bosses being in an arranged marriage, I’d have raised a skeptical eyebrow. But I’m so so glad that The Marriage Contract proved me wrong because I enjoyed it immensely.

Teague O’Malley hates pretty much everything associated with his family’s name. And when his father orders him to marry Callista Sheridan to create a “business” alliance, Teague’s ready to tell his dad exactly where he can stuff his millions. But then Teague actually meets his new fiancée, sees the bruises on her neck and the fight still left in her big blue eyes, and vows he will do everything in his power to protect her.

Everyone knows the O’Malleys have a dangerous reputation. But Callie wasn’t aware just what that meant until she saw Teague, the embodiment of lethal grace and coiled power. His slightest touch sizzles through her. But the closer they get, the more trouble they’re in. Because Callie’s keeping a dark secret-and what Teague doesn’t know could get him killed.

  • Sea of Ruin

Sea of Ruin by Pam Godwin

Sea of Ruin by Pam Godwin is $2.99! This book first came onto my radar because of author Alexis Hall. You need to read his review because 1) it’s very thorough on whether or not it’s for you, and 2) it’s a wild ride.

Bennett Sharp is on the run.

Wanted for piracy, she fears neither God nor death nor man.

    Except Priest Farrell.

The unfaithful, stormy-eyed libertine hunts her with terrifying possessiveness. Nothing will stop him from coming for her. Not his unforgivable betrayal. Not when she’s captured by the ice-cold pirate hunter, Lord Ashley Cutler.

She must escape Ashley’s prison and Priest’s deceit. But can she walk away from their twisted desires?

Two gorgeous captains stand on opposite sides of the law. When they collide in a battle to protect her, the lines blur between enemies and lovers.

Passion heats, secrets unravel, and hearts entangle until they break.

Can love prevail in the sea of ruin

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I strongly recommend the Katee Robert. There are six books total in Robert’s O’Malley Family series and they are all good (with the proviso that these are mob/crime-family romances and there is quite a bit of violence in all of them). I think the books work best if read in order (THE MARRIAGE CONTRACT is the first book); the fifth book, UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION is my favorite (it also has the hottest cover, imho).

  2. Todd says:

Courtney Milan is an auto-buy for me; I usually pre-order her books and, when they zip into my e-reader, interrupt any other reading to enjoy the latest. I wish she could write faster, but she’s well worth waiting for. This latest addresses SO MANY things; there was one section that had me happy-crying.

I read the review of Sea of Ruin and … no, not for me.

  3. WS says:

Sea of Ruin is not for me, either, but I really enjoyed reading the review.

  4. Penny says:

That Alexis Hall review is a thing of beauty? Including the discussion on the trigger warnings parts and historical accuracy around queerness but also then there are the parts like:

“I mean, I don’t know. I’m clearly just not camp enough for this book. Since it has never occurred to me to extract information from someone by wanking at them.”

  5. Laurel says:

Rough Contact, a football M/M romance by Beth Bolden, is currently free at Amazon.

  6. Darlynne says:

THE SCHOLAR by Dervla McTiernan is $1.99 at Amazon US. I’ve read the first book (THE RUIN), this second book is in my TBR and the third is probably lurking around somewhere. I really enjoyed the first, but can’t say with certainty if they need to be read in order.

Amazon also has THE WHITE MIRROR by Elsa Hart for $1.99. This is book 2 of 3 in the Li Du series described as “an imperial librarian and former exile in 18th century China.” I’m intrigued and wondered if anyone here knows this series.

  7. Lisa F says:

Hah, I’m buying Sea of Ruin based on that review ALONE.

  8. Lady Danita says:

Undecided if I’m going to grab Sea Of Ruin, but I’ll absofrikkinglutely be buying more of Alexis Hall’s titles!

  9. Susan says:

@Darlynne: I listened to all of the Cormac Reilly books on audio. (Two of them are shorter, Audible-only stories.) They could be read out of order, I guess, but, as with many series, you’d miss out on a lot of backstory and character development. I put off starting book 3, The Good Turn, for awhile but ended up liking it the best so far.

  10. Lynn says:

Just treated myself to the paperback version of “Wolf Gone Wild” because I’ve been yearning for a werewolf romance but can’t get over the covers of most of them (or they’re part of a huge series). Love the cover of this one and the premise reminds me of one of my favourite fanfictions. Very excited~

  11. Msb says:

What Todd said. I wouldn’t take Sea of Ruin as a gift with a pound of tea.

  12. flchen1 says:

A huge thank you to @Laurel–I picked up Beth Bolden’s Rough Contact and gobbled that down. Thought she did a fantastic job with this football romance.

@DiscoDollyDeb, oddly it looks like Undercover Attraction isn’t available electronically right now?
