Links: Real Life Romances, Special Editions, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. It’s Wednesday afternoon (at least where I am) and you know what that means! It’s time to take a little break with some things from around the internet.

I’m currently in a summer slog, where all I want to do is nap with my AC unit on. Anyone else?

Sadly, my dance calendar is a little full and I actually have to be social. Nothing feels quite as good as bailing on plans.

Author Alex Gino, who wrote a middle grade novel about trans identity, is encouraging people to engage in “sharpie activism” with their book. They wrote a great blog post about it and the decision to manually correct their book’s previous title.

I discovered Afro_Herper on Twitter last week, who hosts a fun little game called #FindThat Lizard. She posts a photo and you have to…find that lizard. It’s pretty tough and a lot of fun!

Author Helen Hoang showed off some beautiful special editions of the first three Bridgerton books.

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter have been married for an astounding 75 years. The New York Times as a lovely profile on their relationship. Be warned it may be behind a paywall.

I discovered this weird little song and I admit that it’s incredibly catchy.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

For those interested in Regency cooking and homemmaking, this is a reproduction of Jane Austen’s sister-in-law’s “household” book.

I love historical cookbooks, though I don’t actually cook. This reminded me also of one of my favorite PBS shows, A Taste of History, wherein a delightful German chef cooks historical meals in historical kitchens (often, but not always, sites tied to the American Revolution)

I’ve been watching BBC’s Makeup A Glamourous History. Makeup artist Lisa Eldridge walks us through 3 historical periods: Georgian, Victorian & interwar (1920s-40s), explaining the place of cosmetics in each time. The fun parts are when she recreates various cosmetics using the recipes of the time.

That song is gloriously goofy, though I am unsure if that move qualifies as a dance… surely Shakira’s hips would disagree.

  4. I love all of these links! Just a quick note – it’s actually Alex Gino, not Melissa Gino (but the book’s amended title is Melissa’s Story).

  5. Jessi says:

Quick, somebody help me justify buying those gorgeous Bridgerton books!

  6. Amanda says:

Thanks, Stephanie! I’ll correct the name when I get home!

  7. tee says:

#FindThatLizard brings me so much joy. Those things hide well!!
And thanks for sharing Melissa’s (and Alex’s) correction.

We have real life Find The Lizard going on down at my Dad’s. Since we have no idea how long we’ll be here, my brother brought the dog. She has absolutely put geckos on her bucket list. Once they’re off the deck, though, she can’t see them. I sympathize. I was pulling down a dead branch, smacked myself in the face with it and then spent 15 minutes trying to find them. Didn’t help that they’re same black/grey/white color scheme as the landscaping stone.

  9. DonnaMarie says:

I meant to say spent 15 minutes liking for my glasses. That was probably an important part of the story.

  10. DonnaMarie says:

    Looking.

  11. marjorie says:

I am SUPER-into the COINCIDANCE. Baffling, yet delightful!

fwiw, Alex Gino uses they/them pronouns.

  12. Amanda says:

@Marjorie: Thank you! Edits have been made.

  13. Joy says:

Now I have an earworms with the tune from Coincidance!

  14. Escapeologist says:

CoinciDANCE has greatly improved my YouTube recommendations. Thank you for this gift.
The Handsome Dancer channel has more content, though not as catchy. And apparently Coincidance was featured in a Škoda car commercial in Taiwan, which just sparks joy. https://youtu.be/PFZzmNojdoE

  15. EC Spurlock says:

The Bridgerton show and star Rege-Jean Page have been nominated for Emmys, Best Drama and Best Actor in a Limited Series respectively.

  16. Meg says:

OMG, that dance video was wonderful. Totally ridiculous and wonderful. Thank you.

  17. JenM says:

Honestly, I’m not sure which one is better, the original CoinciDANCE or the Skoda commercial! Thank you @Escapeologist for the extra link!
