  • Deal with the Devil

Deal with the Devil by Kit Rocha

Deal with the Devil by Kit Rocha is $2.99! Sneezy reviewed this one and gave it a B:

Despite my confusion regarding some of the worldbuilding, the characters and their relationships are developed beautifully, and the entire story thrummed with the sort of vitality that you can only get from a post-apocalyptic road trip with suped-up BAMFs. I can’t rave enough about the emotional literacy this book is built on, which I find incredibly catnippy.

Orphan Black meets the post-apocalyptic Avengers in the vein of Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy series by USA Today and New York Times bestselling author duo Kit Rocha

The United States went belly up 45 years ago when our power grid was wiped out. Too few live in well-protected isolation while the rest of us scrape by on the margins. The only thing that matters is survival. By any means. At any cost.

Nina is an information broker with a mission: to bring hope to the darkest corners of Atlanta. She and her team of mercenary librarians use their knowledge to help those in need. But altruism doesn’t pay the bills—raiding vaults and collecting sensitive data is where the real money is.

Knox is a bitter, battle-weary supersoldier who leads the Silver Devils, an elite strike squad that chose to go AWOL rather than slaughter innocents. Before the Devils leave town for good, they need a biochem hacker to stabilize the experimental implants that grant their superhuman abilities.

The problem? Their hacker’s been kidnapped. And the ransom for her return is Nina. Knox has the perfect bait for a perfect trap: a lost Library of Congress server. The data could set Nina and her team up for years…

    If they live that long.

  • The Truth About Love and Dukes

The Truth About Love and Dukes by Laura Lee Guhrke

The Truth About Love and Dukes by Laura Lee Guhrke is $1.99! This is the first book in the Dear Lady Truelove series and the heroine runs an advice column. Readers seem divided on the heroine. Some found her independent and confident, while others found her too brash for their liking. Other books in the series are also on sale.

Dear Lady Truelove . . . I have fallen in love, truly and completely in love, for the first time. The man whom I hold in such passionate regard, however, is not of my station. He is a painter, a brilliant artist. Needless to say, my family would not approve . . .

Henry, Duke of Torquil, wouldn’t be caught reading the wildly popular “Dear Lady Truelove” column, but when its advice causes his mother to embark on a scandalous elopement, an outraged Henry decides the author of this tripe must be stopped before she can ruin any more lives. Though Lady Truelove’s identity is a closely guarded secret, Henry has reason to suspect the publisher of the notorious column, beautiful and provoking Irene Deverill, is also its author.

For Irene, it’s easy to advise others to surrender to passion, but when she meets the Duke of Torquil, she soon learns that passion comes at a price. When one impulsive, spur-of-the-moment kiss pulls her into a scorching affair with Henry, it could destroy her beloved newspaper, her career, and her independence. But in the duke’s arms, surrender is so, so sweet . . .

  • Mangos and Mistletoe

Mangos and Mistletoe by Adriana Herrera

Mangos and Mistletoe by Adriana Herrera is 99c! This is a F/F holiday romance set during a baking competition. Aarya reviewed this one and gave it a B-:

It wasn’t a perfect read for me, but Mangos & Mistletoe is the perfect read for when you find a moment of rest during holiday chaos.

Kiskeya Burgos left the tropical beaches of the Dominican Republic with a lot to prove. As a pastry chef on the come up, when she arrives in Scotland, she has one goal in mind: win the Holiday Baking Challenge. Winning is her opportunity to prove to her family, her former boss, and most importantly herself, she can make it in the culinary world. Kiskeya will stop at nothing to win , that is, if she can keep her eyes on the prize and off her infuriating teammate’s perfect lips.

Sully Morales, home cooking hustler, and self-proclaimed baking brujita lands in Scotland on a quest to find her purpose after spending years as her family’s caregiver. But now, with her home life back on track, it’s time for Sully to get reacquainted with her greatest love, baking. Winning the Holiday Baking Challenge is a no brainer if she can convince her grumpy AF baking partner that they make a great team both in and out of the kitchen before an unexpected betrayal ends their chance to attain culinary competition glory.

  • Dating Mr. Darcy

Dating Mr. Darcy by Kate O'Keeffe

Dating Mr. Darcy by Kate O’Keeffe is $2.99! This was my selection in a previous Hide Your Wallet. It’s an enemies to lovers, opposites attract romance set on a reality show. Did you pick this one up?

Is it a truth universally known that a girl must compete on reality TV to win a modern-day Mr. Darcy’s heart?

Clothing designer Emma Brady is having serious doubts about how far she’ll go to promote her new activewear line. Sure, being on a reality show would be great for business, but is putting up with Mr. Darcy-wannabe Sebastian Huntington-Ross really worth it?

Sebastian is straight out of an Austen novel. But it’s hard to focus on his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and wickedly sexy accent when all Emma can see is his pride, arrogance, and smug demeanor.

But Sebastian has a secret reason for being on the show, and when Emma figures out what it is, her heart warms to him–without her permission.

Will Emma hold fast and keep the aristocratic Sebastian at arm’s length? Or will she put her reservations aside when the lines between reality and “reality show” start to blur?

Dating Mr. Darcy is a laugh-out-loud feel-good rom com for fans of Bridget Jones’s Diary, Sophie Ranald, and Sophie Kinsella.

Kit Rocha, you had me at the words “mercenary librarians.”

DEAL WITH THE DEVIL is So Good. I joined the Bad Decisions Book Club the day it was released last summer and made horrifying noises at 3am when I went to pre-order the sequel and learned how long I would have to wait to spend more time with these amazing characters. Fortunately, the sequel is now nearly here!

Mercenary Librarians, found families, good people having to make hard choices (warning: all the characters in this book have Been Through Some Stuff), game recognizing game, cracktastic and cathartic plot points that prove the authors are unafraid of flaunting their fanfic roots, and ALLLLL THE COMPETENCE PORN. If this sounds like your idea of a good time, now is the perfect moment to join in!
