  • The Space Between Worlds

The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson

PODCAST RECOMMENDED: The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, so grab it while you can. Courtney Milan recommended this one on her latest podcast episode with us, and I’m sure a lot of us trust what Courtney has to say,

An outsider who can travel between worlds discovers a secret that threatens her new home and her fragile place in it, in a stunning sci-fi debut that’s both a cross-dimensional adventure and a powerful examination of identity, privilege, and belonging.

Multiverse travel is finally possible, but there’s just one catch: No one can visit a world where their counterpart is still alive. Enter Cara, whose parallel selves happen to be exceptionally good at dying—from disease, turf wars, or vendettas they couldn’t outrun. Cara’s life has been cut short on 372 worlds in total.

On this Earth, however, Cara has survived. Identified as an outlier and therefore a perfect candidate for multiverse travel, Cara is plucked from the dirt of the wastelands. Now she has a nice apartment on the lower levels of the wealthy and walled-off Wiley City. She works—and shamelessly flirts—with her enticing yet aloof handler, Dell, as the two women collect off-world data for the Eldridge Institute. She even occasionally leaves the city to visit her family in the wastes, though she struggles to feel at home in either place. So long as she can keep her head down and avoid trouble, Cara is on a sure path to citizenship and security.

But trouble finds Cara when one of her eight remaining doppelgängers dies under mysterious circumstances, plunging her into a new world with an old secret. What she discovers will connect her past and her future in ways she could have never imagined—and reveal her own role in a plot that endangers not just her world, but the entire multiverse.

  • The Happy Ever After Playlist

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez is $2.99! I know there are mixed feelings about the first book, but the second book is seems to have more positive reviews. Also, if you want my first book opinion: I felt like it should have been positioned more as a chronic pain narrative than infertility, since I never thought the latter was an issue for the main character.

From the USA Today bestselling author of The Friend Zone comes an adorable and fresh romantic comedy about one trouble-making dog who brings together two perfect strangers.

Two years after losing her fiancé, Sloan Monroe still can’t seem to get her life back on track. But one trouble-making pup with a “take me home” look in his eyes is about to change everything. With her new pet by her side, Sloan finally starts to feel more like herself. Then, after weeks of unanswered texts, Tucker’s owner reaches out. He’s a musician on tour in Australia. And bottom line: He wants Tucker back.

Well, Sloan’s not about to give up her dog without a fight. But what if this Jason guy really loves Tucker? As their flirty texts turn into long calls, Sloan can’t deny a connection. Jason is hot and nice and funny. There’s no telling what could happen when they meet in person. The question is: With his music career on the rise, how long will Jason really stick around? And is it possible for Sloan to survive another heartbreak?

  • Murder on Black Swan Lane

Murder on Black Swan Lane by Andrea Penrose

Murder on Black Swan Lane by Andrea Penrose is $1.99! This is the first book in the historical mystery Wrexford & Sloane series, which I think Ellen enjoys. They may have mentioned a later book in the series on the site.

In Regency London, an unconventional scientist and a fearless female artist form an unlikely alliance to expose unspeakable evil . . .

The Earl of Wrexford possesses a brilliant scientific mind, but boredom and pride lead him to reckless behavior. So when pompous, pious Reverend Josiah Holworthy publicly condemns him for debauchery, Wrexford unsheathes his rapier-sharp wit and strikes back. As their war of words escalates, London’s most popular satirical cartoonist, A.J. Quill, skewers them both. But then the clergyman is found slain in a church—his face burned by chemicals, his throat slashed ear to ear—and Wrexford finds himself the chief suspect.

An artist in her own right, Charlotte Sloane has secretly slipped into the persona of her late husband, using his nom de plume A.J. Quill. When Wrexford discovers her true identity, she fears it will be her undoing. But he has a proposal—use her sources to unveil the clergyman’s clandestine involvement in questionable scientific practices, and unmask the real murderer. Soon Lord Wrexford and the mysterious Mrs. Sloane plunge into a dangerous shadow world hidden among London’s intellectual enclaves to trap a cunning adversary—before they fall victim to the next experiment in villainy . . .

  • From Blood and Ash

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout is $1.99 at Amazon only for right now! This is a new adult fantasy romance that has been compared to authors like Sarah J. Maas. I’ve seen a lot of fanart for this series and it’s made me very curious!

Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.

    A Maiden…

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

    A Duty…

The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.

    A Kingdom…

Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

  1. Darlynne says:

THE SPACE BETWEEN WORLDS was great, complexity/conflict all over the place and a MC who has to decide where she fits.

  2. Ak26 says:

I loved the Happily Ever After Playlist! It was much better than the first book, imo.

  3. Arijo says:

I loved The Space Between Worlds! Very griping story, and well written. There’s a romance, but the romantic relationship was the least interesting relationship depicted IMO. I especially liked the heroine’s perceived and internalized relationships with herselves.

  4. Gabrielle says:

I devoured the Wrexford and Sloane series! Very much like CS Harris’ Sebastian St Cyr set, with intelligent, multi-faceted characters and solid historical setting. Couldn’t warm up to Penrose’s Lady Ariana series quite as well, unfortunately… just didn’t like her as much as Sloane.
