Recipe for Persuasion by Sonali Dev

Recipe for Persuasion by Sonali Dev is $1.99! This is book two in Dev’s Austen retellings. Catherine read this and gave it a C. She liked a lot of the food elements and Ashna, especially. However, she warns this book packs in a lot of angst.

From the author of Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors comes another , clever, deeply layered, and heartwarming romantic comedy that follows in the Jane Austen tradition—this time, with a twist on Persuasion.

Chef Ashna Raje desperately needs a new strategy. How else can she save her beloved restaurant and prove to her estranged, overachieving mother that she isn’t a complete screw up? When she’s asked to join the cast of Cooking with the Stars, the latest hit reality show teaming chefs with celebrities, it seems like just the leap of faith she needs to put her restaurant back on the map. She’s a chef, what’s the worst that could happen?

    Rico Silva, that’s what.

Being paired with a celebrity who was her first love, the man who ghosted her at the worst possible time in her life, only proves what Ashna has always believed: leaps of faith are a recipe for disaster.

FIFA winning soccer star Rico Silva isn’t too happy to be paired up with Ashna either. Losing Ashna years ago almost destroyed him. The only silver lining to this bizarre situation is that he can finally prove to Ashna that he’s definitely over her.

But when their catastrophic first meeting goes viral, social media becomes obsessed with their chemistry. The competition on the show is fierce…and so is the simmering desire between Ashna and Rico.  Every minute they spend together rekindles feelings that pull them toward their disastrous past. Will letting go again be another recipe for heartbreak—or a recipe for persuasion…?

In Recipe for Persuasion, Sonali Dev once again takes readers on an unforgettable adventure in this fresh, fun, and enchanting romantic comedy.

  • The Wolf at the Door

The Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara

The Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara is $1.99! This is a m/m paranormal romance and was recommended by Aarya in our Underrated Authors & Romances Rec League. Though this one wasn’t Aarya’s favorite in the series, she still really liked this one.

A former FBI agent is partnered with the enemy in this suspenseful male/male shifter romance from debut author Charlie Adhara

Hunting for big bad wolves was never part of Agent Cooper Dayton’s plan, but a werewolf attack lands him in the carefully guarded Bureau of Special Investigations. A new case comes with a new partner: ruggedly sexy werewolf Oliver Park.

Park is an agent of The Trust, a werewolf oversight organization working to ease escalating tensions with the BSI. But as far as Cooper’s concerned, it’s failing. As they investigate a series of mysterious deaths unlike anything they’ve seen, every bone in Cooper’s body is suspicious of his new partner—even when Park proves himself as competent as he is utterly captivating.

When more people vanish, pressure to solve the case skyrockets. And though he’d resolved to keep things professional, Cooper’s friction with Park soon erupts…into a physical need that can’t be contained or controlled. But with a body count that’s rising by the day, werewolves and humans are in equal danger. If Cooper and Park don’t catch the killer soon, one—or both—of them could be the next to go.

  • Miss Buncle’s Book

Miss Buncle’s Book by D.E. Stevenson

RECOMMENDEDMiss Buncle’s Book by D.E. Stevenson is $2.99! Carrie loved this book and gave it an A:

For the most part, Miss Buncle’s Book is not a laugh out loud book. Its humor is gentle and understated but very funny nonetheless. It’s also a delightful ode to the power of the written word.

Barbara Buncle is in a bind. Times are harsh, and Barbara’s bank account has seen better days. Stumped for ideas, Barbara draws inspiration from fellow residents of her quaint English village, writing a revealing novel that features the townsfolk as characters. The smashing bestseller is published under the pseudonym John Smith, which is a good thing because villagers recognize the truth. But what really turns her world around is when events in real life start mimicking events in the book. Funny, charming, and insightful, this novel reveals what happens when people see themselves through someone else’s eyes.

  • The Fire in the Glass

The Fire in the Glass by Jacquelyn Benson

The Fire in the Glass by Jacquelyn Benson is 99c! Recently, we featured Benson’s more action/adventure title and people in the comments also mentioned how much they loved this one. It’s  more of a paranormal historical or historical fantasy with a medium main character.

London, 1914. Someone is draining the blood of the city’s mediums. Lily Albright knows who’s next.

The unacknowledged bastard daughter of the Earl of Torrington, Lily is haunted by visions of the future that she can never change. When she foresees the death of her dearest friend, she realizes the circumstances of that yet-to-be murder match those of a series of brutal and mysterious crimes.

If she can find the killer before he strikes, maybe this time she can finally thwart fate and save someone she loves.

As Lily’s investigation takes her to a bedchamber where one of society’s most desirable widows lies dead, she realizes she can’t do this alone. She needs help from the reclusive Lord Strangford, a man haunted by his own unusual powers. To pursue the path of a killer, Lily must ask Strangford to face unimaginable horrors – and is compelled to reveal her darkest secrets to a man she has little reason to trust.

Somewhere in the city lies a murderer hell-bent on an unspeakable harvest, one that could reshape the future of the human race. To stop him, Lily must face a past rife with betrayal—and embrace the power she has spent her entire life trying to escape.

Oh wow, this is a nice selection of books! I liked all of them, to be honest.

  2. LisaM says:

I keep trying D.E. Stevenson’s books because so many readers I know love them. They just don’t work for me, and I have given up trying to figure out why.

  3. Kit says:

The wolf at the door has been on my wishlist for months but has never been reduced in the UK

  4. Jeannette says:

Miss Buncle is definitely my favorite of D.E.Stevenson’s books. Somehow it channels the world of Cranford, Cold Comfort Farm, and Miss Marple. In a way it is a character study of the English village, with a bit of My Blue Castle thrown in.

  5. Cristie says:

Does The Fire in the Glass have romantic elements? I’m intrigued, but really prefer stuff with romance right now.

  6. GradStudentEscapist says:

Cannot recommend the Charlie Adhara series enough, and this is the first book so it’s a great deal (should be read in order). It’s also my least favorite but still really good and the relationship between the two MCs develops in really complex ways. I also find the intimate scenes really interesting because while they are detailed, they’re not gratuitous – instead, they give insight into the characters’ personalities and relationship in a way most sex scenes don’t.

  7. MaryK says:

I think The Wolf at the Door is the least favorite because the characters start out as sort of antagonists. It’s an important book though because they learn to understand each other and it’s the start of their relationship. Two thumbs up for the series overall.

  8. hng23 says:

More thumbs up for the Charlie Adhara series. Definitely must be read in order, so The Wolf at the Door is the place to start.

  9. Malaraa says:

Burning Roses by S.L. Huang is on sale for 2.99! It’s a novella, which are usually that price eventually, but it’s new enough it’s sitting at been much more. It’s a mix of several fairy tales, with middle aged queer lady protagonists (Latina and Chinese) I anticipate it being awesome!

  10. rhode red says:

Note: Miss Buncle’s Book was a massive bestseller in its day and two additional books about Miss Buncle came out – so it’s an (initially unplanned) trilogy! The author D.E. Stevenson became so popular that she had a decades long career and still has fan clubs online.

My favorite series of hers is set in Scottish border country (which Stevenson knew well as she lived in Scotland) and it starts with the book Vittoria Cottage.

    Enjoy!!!
