  • Bitterburn

    Bitterburn by Ann Aguirre

RECOMMENDED: Bitterburn by Ann Aguirre is $2.99! This might just be the regular price, but I still wanted to include it considering it was Elyse’s favorite read of last year. She says, so far, this is her favorite Beauty & the Beast adaptation. High praise!

Amarrah Brewer is desperate and grief-stricken.

For ages, the town of Bitterburn has sent tribute to the Keep at the End of the World, but a harsh winter leaves them unable to pay the toll that keeps the Beast at bay. Amarrah volunteers to brave what no one has before—to end the threat or die trying.

The Beast of Bitterburn has lost all hope.

One way or another, Njål has been a prisoner for his entire life. Monstrous evil has left him trapped and lonely, and he believes that will never change. There is only darkness in his endless exile, never light. Never warmth. Until she arrives.

It’s a tale as old as time… where Beauty goes to confront the Beast and falls in love instead.

  • Beauty and Beastly

Beauty and Beastly by Melanie Karsak

RECOMMENDED: Beauty and Beastly by Melanie Karsak is $1.99! Speaking of Beauty & the Beast! This is a steampunk adaptation and Carrie gave it a B:

It’s a lyrical story with a familiar plot, soothing ambiance, and nice people. A bit bland, but so very pretty. I recommend this as a “de-stressing” read for when you just want to daydream.

In this tale as old as time, Isabella Hawking must tinker a solution to a heartbreaking mystery.

When Isabelle and her papa set out from London on a sea voyage, Isabelle was thrilled. Visiting foreign courts, learning from master tinkers, and studying new ways to manipulate mechanicals sounded like a dream. But an unexpected gale turns the waters violent, and the ship is lost. Isabelle survives the tempest only to be shipwrecked on a seemingly-deserted island. Dotted with standing stones, faerie mounds, and a crumbling castle, the haunting place hints of a magical past. Isabelle may be an unwitting guest, but her arrival at the forgotten citadel heralds a new beginning for the beastly residents inside.

Beauty and Beastly is a retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale set in 1814 Regency England.

  • The Ancestor

    The Ancestor by Danielle Trussoni

The Ancestor by Danielle Trussoni is $2.99! Unlike Bitterburn this a Gothic horror mystery set at an Italian estate. Do check Goodreads for all of the content warnings as there are several, with genetic experiments certainly being high on that list.

From the New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author of the Angelology series comes a bewitching gothic novel of suspense that plunges readers into a world of dark family secrets, the mysteries of human genetics, and the burden of family inheritance.

It feels like a fairy tale when Alberta ”Bert” Monte receives a letter addressed to “Countess Alberta Montebianco” at her Hudson Valley, New York, home that claims she’s inherited a noble title, money, and a castle in Italy. While Bert is more than a little skeptical, the mystery of her aristocratic family’s past, and the chance to escape her stressful life for a luxury holiday in Italy, is too good to pass up.

At first, her inheritance seems like a dream come true: a champagne-drenched trip on a private jet to Turin, Italy; lawyers with lists of artwork and jewels bequeathed to Bert; a helicopter ride to an ancestral castle nestled in the Italian Alps below Mont Blanc; a portrait gallery of ancestors Bert never knew existed; and a cellar of expensive vintage wine for Bert to drink.

But her ancestry has a dark side, and Bert soon learns that her family history is particularly complicated. As Bert begins to unravel the Montebianco secrets, she begins to realize her true inheritance lies not in a legacy of ancestral treasures, but in her very genes.

  • Finding Master Right

Finding Master Right by Sparrow Beckett

RECOMMENDED: Finding Master Right by Sparrow Beckett is $1.99! This is a BDSM romance and I gave it a B+. Though this is the first in a series, I thought each subsequent book got worse and worse. So maybe just stop here?

It was a great way to spend a few hours and I read the thing in one night. I know BDSM romance isn’t everyone’s bag, but the levity of the characters and their exchanges gave me all sorts of warm fuzzies that had little to do with their bedroom activities.

Kate’s fantasies have always featured sexy, dominant, crop-wielding men, but finding one in real life was easier said than done. She’s used to getting what she wants, but the creeps that keep flirting with her aren’t her kink.

Enter Banner. His intensity scares her—he’s looking for a slave, and Kate doesn’t want to be one. But when he offers to help find the perfect Dom for her, she’s glad to have a matchmaker and protector.

Banner knows he and Kate aren’t sexually compatible, so what better way to get the tasty almost-vanilla girl out of his head than finding her a good Dom? As it becomes clear that Kate has no clue what she wants when it comes to kink, he devises a series of experiments to help her figure things out—a perfect plan, if he could stop himself from training and bedding her. Obsessing about owning a girl who wants to be free isn’t healthy. But when Banner finds the right Dom to collar Kate, how will he hand over the leash?

I absolutely loved Bitterburn! Definitely a favorite of last year.

  2. Colleenie says:

“Duke I’d Like to F” anthology is .99 on Amazon today. I don’t know about anywhere else, though.

  3. Tam says:

There’s definitely a certain bluntness about that title…

  4. LML says:

For a moment I thought Amanda was going to offer one Beauty and the Beast retelling on sale for each trope.

  5. Carrie G says:

Temporary by Sarah Mayberry and Sarina Bowenis on sale for .99 on Kindle. The audiobok is also whispersynced for $1.99 more, which is a great deal. I haven’t been having much luck with m/f contemporary romances this year, but I really enjoyed this book. The narrators for Temporary are very good, too.

  6. Lisa F says:

Well, I am a bit of a sucker for Beauty and the Beast retellings…

  7. flchen1 says:

Thank you, @Colleenie! And Ann Aguirre and Sarah Mayberry are always fantastic!

  8. Kelly says:

The Ancestor sounded really interesting, but something made me check GoodReads (I don’t normally), and uh, yeah. To say there are several content warnings is a real understatement; I’d say the bigger ones than genetic experimentation are genocide, infertility, and ableism.

I’ll just pass on that and go read some Beauty and the Beast retellings.

  9. Meredith says:

    I loooooooove Bitterburn. So much.
