    Fireworks by Sarina Bowen

Fireworks by Sarina Bowen is 99c! This is the sixth book in Bowen’s True North series. I’ve enjoyed this series, but haven’t made it quite this far. If you’ve ever been curious about it, the first book is FREE! I also reviewed it and found the series to be great on audio.

Skye Copeland is on paid leave from her broadcasting job after accidentally drawing a pecker on the traffic map.

Let that sink in. Like it’s her fault the traffic pattern that day created a perfect schlong?

Skye isn’t laughing. She needs this job. And that’s the only reason she’s agreed to chase down a story in her least favorite place—that hell on earth known as Vermont.

A quick trip. In and out. Much like – never mind. Skye can sneak into the town that once tried to break her, get the story and get back into the good graces of her producer. Easy peasy.

Except things go sideways even as she sets foot over the county line. Her step-sister is on the run from a violent drug dealer. And the cop on the case is none other than Benito Rossi, the man who broke her teenage heart.

His dark brown eyes still tear her apart. And even as she steels herself to finally tell him off after twelve years, the old fireworks are still there.

Things are about to go boom.

  • Irresistibly Yours

    Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne

Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne is $2.99! If you like great dialogue, I always recommend Layne and this was one of my book picks for a previous October’s Hide Your Wallet. However, a few readers found the setting a bit unrealistic. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads and is the first book in the Oxford series.

Meet the men of Oxford magazine! In the first captivating spin-off of Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, a not-so-friendly battle of the sexes turns into a scorching office romance.

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

  • Lick

    Lick by Kylie Scott

Lick by Kylie Scott is $2.99! This is a new adult contemporary romance with a music setting. It’s also book one in the Stage Dive series. Elyse reviewed this one previously. She wound up giving it a C+:

I liked Lick. It had some technical problems relating to the conflict at the end and the fact that without his point of view, David wasn’t always the most sympathetic. Evelyn has a strong voice though, she’s a relatable heroine, and the idea of being woo’d by a celebrity is pretty appealing.

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

  • The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh

The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh by Ella Quinn

The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh by Ella Quinn is $1.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! It looks like this one has gotten a cover redesign and is the second book in The Marriage Game series. Both the hero and heroine want to marry each other, so I don’t know what the conflict is here quite yet.

For Ella Quinn’s bachelors, courtship is all about gamesmanship, until the right woman shows them how much they have to learn. . .

Since she was a young girl, Anna Marsh has dreamed of Sebastian, Baron Rutherford asking for her hand in marriage. But that was in another life when her brother Harry was alive, before she vowed to secretly continue the work he valiantly died for. Now as Sebastian finally courts Anna, she must thwart his advances. Were he to discover her secret, he would never deem her a suitable wife. . .

Sebastian has always known Anna would become his wife someday. He expects few obstacles, but when she dissuades him at every turn he soon realizes there is much more to this intriguing woman. Somehow he must prove to her that they are meant to be together. But first he must unravel the seductive mystery that is Miss Anna Marsh. . .

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Re LICK: I’m so glad the “got black-out drunk and woke up married” trope came and went. There’s nothing romantic about getting so intoxicated you can’t remember what you did or what happened to you.

  2. Laurel says:

Sarina Bowen is pretty much an auto-buy author for me. The True North series has been particularly good – all the books have been 4 or 5 star reads, and I give very few books 5 stars. I gave Bittersweet (the first book) and Fireworks 4 stars. The middle books in the series (book 3, 4, and 5) were all 5 star reads. I highly recommend this series.

I also enjoyed Lick more than Elyse did – I gave it 4 stars, which I would translate to a B.

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Laurel: I’m reading Bowen’s latest, ROOMMATE, right now and so far I’m loving it. It’s an m/m romance featuring one of the Shipley cousins, so I guess it’s True North adjacent. I’m about three-quarters of the way through and I think it’s Bowen’s best since STEADFAST.

  4. Laurel says:

@DiscoDollyDeb I think there are some authors whose books always seem to work for a reader, and I think Sarina Bowen is like that for me. I don’t read a lot of m/m, but I have Roommate on my TBR just because she wrote it.

My other authors I would read anything by would include Mary Balogh, Patricia Briggs, and Ilona Andrews. Just seeing their name on a new book makes me happy.

  5. Ren Benton says:

I think I saw yesterday that LICK is in development at Passionflix.

  6. Neile says:

I also enjoyed Lick more than I would have thought from the trope (mind you Christina Lauren’s Wild Seasons where three of the couples do this is one of my favourite series ever so what do I know). I really enjoyed the characters in the Stage Dive series. The women are great and I’d swear I know that drummer.

I also have grown to be a Sarina Bowen fan–she’s now an autobuy for me–and am working my way through the True North series in audio. They’re working for me even more than on kindle.

I am also not much of an m/m fan (somehow they make me feel like a voyeur) but enjoy Bowen’s. I guess I should pick up Roommate…

  7. Jennifer says:

Just so you know, the audiobook review for “Fireworks” is really for Bittersweet, not Fireworks.

  8. JudyW says:

Although “Lick” is the first book, I must confess that I liked several from this series better. I especially liked the humor in “Play” but my favorite in the series would have to go to “Lead”. And of course nothing can touch her book “Him” (M/M) in my opinion. I just finished “Roommate” and it was good.

  9. Amanda says:

@Jennifer: The sentence about my review is related to the one before it about the first book being free. Sorry that wasn’t clearer!

  10. Ruth L says:

I really liked Roommate, too. Bowen is definitely an auto-buy. Roommate came out from Heart Eyes Press, which she created to feature LGBT fiction.

  11. Bre says:

@judyW – Lead was my favorite! I liked the Stage Dive series more than I thought I would.

  12. Ms. M says:

“her least favorite place—that hell on earth known as Vermont.”

    *blinks* Come again?

  13. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Ms. M: It’s not really Vermont that’s the problem in FIREWORKS, it’s the heroine’s difficult childhood there. The book goes back and forth in time. The heroine had a very difficult childhood and a lot of it happened in Vermont.

  14. Emily B says:

Great list today! Like many here, Sarina Bowen is an auto buy for me, and her True North series is my favorite. I’ve reread all the books in this series so many times. I’m so excited for her True North spinoffs featuring different authors – hoping it will introduce me to some new ones!

I love Kylie Scott, and the Stage Dive series as a whole is fun, but Lick is probably the weakest of them. I think the whole waking up in Vegas trope just doesn’t work very well for me. The characters are also very young, so I find the whole marriage plot a bit of a stretch. Scott’s got some great standalones too.

  15. PamG says:

Lick is ok, but Play features one of the best sex puppy heroes ever. Mal is a great supporting character in Lick and both hilarious and moving in Play. So, his book is my favorite. Lead is also excellent, but Deep deeply sucks in my opinion. That sort of sums up my relationship with Kylie Scott’s books. She’s been almost an autobuy for me in the past, but I no longer hesitate to break up with any of her series that take an unfortunate turn.
