Huntress
RECOMMENDED: Huntress by Malinda Lo is $1.99! Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B+, but wouldn’t recommend it for romance readers necessarily:
I recommend this for people looking for inclusive fantasy that feels at once fresh and traditional within multiple traditions.Â
Nature is out of balance in the human world. The sun hasn’t shone in years, and crops are failing. Worse yet, strange and hostile creatures have begun to appear. The people’s survival hangs in the balance.
To solve the crisis, the oracle stones are cast, and Kaede and Taisin, two seventeen-year-old girls, are picked to go on a dangerous and unheard-of journey to Tanlili, the city of the Fairy Queen. Taisin is a sage, thrumming with magic, and Kaede is of the earth, without a speck of the otherworldly. And yet the two girls’ destinies are drawn together during the mission. As members of their party succumb to unearthly attacks and fairy tricks, the two come to rely on each other and even begin to fall in love. But the Kingdom needs only one huntress to save it, and what it takes could tear Kaede and Taisin apart forever.
The exciting adventure prequel to Malinda Lo’s highly acclaimed novel Ash is overflowing with lush Chinese influences and details inspired by the I Ching, and is filled with action and romance.

God Save the Queen
God Save the Queen by Kate Locke is $1.99! Book two is also on sale. This is an alternate history, steampunk novel with a romantic element. Scrolling through Goodreads reviews, it seems people wither really enjoyed it or were meh. I’m curious!
Queen Victoria rules with an immortal fist.
The undead matriarch of a Britain where the Aristocracy is made up of werewolves and vampires, where goblins live underground and mothers know better than to let their children out after dark. A world where being nobility means being infected with the Plague (side-effects include undeath), Hysteria is the popular affliction of the day, and leeches are considered a delicacy. And a world where technology lives side by side with magic. The year is 2012.
Xandra Vardan is a member of the elite Royal Guard, and it is her duty to protect the Aristocracy. But when her sister goes missing, Xandra will set out on a path that undermines everything she believed in and uncover a conspiracy that threatens to topple the empire. And she is the key-the prize in a very dangerous struggle.

Scandalously Yours
Scandalously Yours by Cara Elliot is 99c! This is the first book in the Hellions of High Street series and the next book is also on sale. Some readers found the writing style not quite for them, while others loved the sense of adventure mixed with the romance.
Proper young ladies of the ton—especially ones who have very small dowries—are not encouraged to have an interest in intellectual pursuits. Indeed, the only thing they are encouraged to pursue is an eligible bachelor. So, the headstrong Sloane sisters must keep their passions a secret. Ah, but secret passions are wont to lead a lady into trouble…
SCANDALOUSLY YOURS
The eldest of the three Sloane sisters, Olivia is unafraid to question the boundaries of Society—even if it does frequently land her in trouble. Disdaining the glittery world of balls and courtship, Olivia prefers to spend her time writing fiery political essays under a pseudonym for London’s leading newspaper. But when her columns attract the attention of the oh-so-proper Earl of Wrexham, Olivia suddenly finds herself dancing on the razor’s edge of scandal. With the help of her sisters, she tries to stay one step ahead of trouble…
However, after a series of madcap misadventures, Wrexham, a former military hero who is fighting for social reform in Parliament, discovers Olivia’s secret. To her surprise, he proposes a temporary alliance to help win passage of his bill. Passion flares between them, but when a political enemy kidnaps the earl’s young son, they must make some dangerous decisions… and trust that love will conquer all.

Feisty
Feisty by Julia Kent is 99c! This contemporary romance is part of the Do-Over series and it seems like the unifying theme of these books is that the heroines make disastrous first impressions with the heroes. Correct me if I’m wrong! Have you read this? I’m always on the fence first POV + subjective humor.
I’m not too proud to admit that finding Mr. Right involves swiping right. Right? Welcome to dating in avocado toastland.
Here I am, on my first blind date, ever, courtesy of a smartphone app and my two annoying best friends.
So what is Chris “Fletch” Fletcher doing, walking across the room, looking at his phone like he’s pattern matching a picture to find a real person he’s never met before?
Oh.
Oh, no.
The guy I drop-kicked in seventh grade cannot be my blind date. The guy who earned me this infernal nickname.
That’s right.
Feisty.

The (new to me) cover threw me for a moment, but I remember enjoying GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. Will have to look at the second.
Cara Elliot is a pseudonym for Andrea Pickens if that helps anyone make a decision.
Came here to say what Sandy H. said, so I’ll just add to that by saying “Andrea Penrose, too”.
“The Ultimate Pi Day Party” by Jackie Lau is currently free! This contemporary series set in Toronto was favourably mentioned in the “Best Food P0rn Romance” post 🙂
Very intrigued by God Save The Queen, just bought it.
My enduring memory of Julia Kent is a heroine getting an iPhone stuck in her vagina – I maintain that’s not even doable.
I LOVED Ultimate Pi Day Party, thank you for that!
I read “God Save the Queen” a while ago, and it sucks you in–pun unintended! It’s fast and oh gawd, totally absorbing.
