Know My Name by Chanel Miller
Burnout by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
Harrow the Ninth (and if they hadn’t already read the previous one, Gideon the Ninth)!
Hidden by Laura Griffin
Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn (yes, I know it came out in 2019 but it’s actually the most recently published book I’ve read this year…pathetic of me, I know, but it’s my most recommended read of 2020 :))
The Hidden Moon by Jeannie Lin (the third in a series, but can be read without having read the prior books), and the Hot Cakes series by Erin Nicholas.
Still “Act Like It” by Lucy Parker. It’s a perennial!
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall.
The Right Sort of Man by Allison Montclair, the first book in the Sparks & Bainbridge mystery series, published in 2019. The second book, A Royal Affair, was published this year, and the third book will be out next year.
I actually discovered the series through this site, so whoever reviewed/recommended it, thank you! I am definitely the recipient of your recommendation!
Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher is the book I pushed the most in real life.
Here on the SBTB, it varies, depending on the theme 😉 The books I was the happiest to recommand were Wen Spencer’s Ukiah in a mystery rec league and Fumi Yoshinaga’s What Did You Eat Yesterday? in the food p0rn one.
See What You Made Me Do by Jess Hill was so fascinating I even talked about it with my physical therapist.
I found myself recommending Marley Valentine’s m/m romance, WITHOUT YOU, on several occasions. It’s a twist on the “man falls for late brother’s widow” trope because, in this case, the late brother was gay, so the man (who has always identified as straight) falls for his late brother’s widower. Amazing levels of sexual tension, plus a insightful look at how grief & loss change people and families.
I really loved Conventionally Yours by Annabeth Albert!
Recommended Murderbot Diaries repeatedly.
The book I recommended the most this year is Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle. So many people I know, including me, are feeling extreme stress and burnout more than others, and I found myself recommending it over and over.
Luster by Raven Leilani
Not romance, but the book I’ve shared most this year has been The Detective In The Dooryard, by Timothy Cotton (aka: TC on the Bangor Maine FB page).
Loved it!
I finally read “Into the drowning deep” this year and it’s my favorite rec! I even bought it for 2 friends!
You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria!
Anna Huber’s Lady Darby series. Wonderful books!
I have recommended Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia quite a few times.
I hate to repeat my comment from yesterday, but honestly the #1 book I’ve recommended this year — and that I have bought for my friends — is Lindy West’s “Shit, Actually.” It was exactly what I needed to read as the pandemic dragged on, and I wanted to give my friends some of the same sense of fun/relief. The other book I really recommend is Harold Kushner’s “When Bad Things Happen to Good People.” I had a good friend of mine die suddenly earlier this year, and this book helped me tremendously through the (continuing) grieving process.
TJ Klune’s “Green Creek” series – I fell in love with the series and Klune’s writing this fall.
Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade. I talked about it in my class this semester and got an email from a classmate telling me how much she loved it.
Alyssa Cole’s Loyal League series.
Pokko and the Drum by Matthew Forsythe
Amazing pictures, sly humor, enjoyable for all ages.
I would have to say “Daring and the Duke” by Sarah MacLean for the “how to redeem him” factor alone.
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall 🙂
The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells!
The Cold Millions by Jess Walter
Sherry Thomas Lady Sherlock series
Murderbot!
Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. I laughed and cried.
Reread The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and went on a recommendation streak.
Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade.
Picture It by Jana McKewen
I’ve been recommending Jackie Lau a lot. If I had to pick just one of her books – Ultimate Pi Day Party
Seems like this is going to be my answer to all these questions, but once again it’s Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall. Or Murderbot which I discovered this year.
The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by Deesha Philyaw!
