Circe by Madeline Miller is $4.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price matched. I know $4.99 is a little higher for books we feature on sale, but everyone and their mom has been loving Circe. I want to say that most of my book group has read it by now. Have you read it? Does it live up to the hype?

Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri is $2.99! This is an adult fantasy novel with some romantic elements. Though this is marketed as adult fantasy, some readers it felt like it was more YA. Empire of Sand has been on my TBR pile for a while; have you read this one? Aarya highly recommends it.

Despite all these points, I adored To Have and to Hoax. It made me giggle constantly during a week when I had little to smile about. I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone; if the antics sound juvenile and infuriating, then you won’t like the story. That ‘Circe’ cover strongly reminds me of the one on my old copy of ‘Till We Have Faces’ by C.S. Lewis. Which was also a myth retold. 🙂 One of many books I no longer own, but it made a real impression on me. Those who like ‘Circe’ might like it, too.
I loved Empire of Sand, it’s gorgeous. I think it’s very firmly adult fantasy (it’s got some pretty disturbing bits) and the romance is lovely and the world building is terrific. I’ve been hoarding the second book in the series in a sort of “break glass in case of emergency” way.

I *just* finished Circe and absolutely loved it: lyrical in prose and subject. Highly recommend.
Circe is one of the best books I’ve read in the last few years. It covered a lot of topics, but my favorite is how well it conveys the joy of doing work that fulfills you.
Circe was fascinating, I really enjoyed the writing and the myth retelling. Also would recommend! (It did have some scenes that would merit content warnings, not sure if there’s a way to share those with spoiler tags in comments?)
I also loved Circe. I was worried it would be dry but was completely wrong!
Madeline Miller has been an auto-buy author for me since I picked up “The Song of Achilles” (in hardcover!) off the New Books table at B&N when it first came out. I was poor then, but I read one chapter and ponied up the $25 to buy it, because I couldn’t imagine not taking that book home with me. I love the way she writes – lyrical and rich in detail, but it never feels bogged down.
