Links: Spreading Romance Love!

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Hi there! How are we all feeling? A little better? Relieve? Still exhausted?

It’s okay if you say yes to all three!

Today’s links are mostly romance focused – namely, romance being awesome and exciting.

Now the dash toward the holidays begins!

Many of you are anxiously awaiting the launch of The Bridgertons series on Netflix. You can read more about it here, along with Julie Andrews’ involvement as the series narrator. Andrews also has a podcast, if the thought of hearing her soothing voice in your earbuds is appealing to you.

Alyssa Cole, Courtney Milan, and Kit Rocha have teamed up for Romancing the Runoff, which supports voting organizations in Georgia. $70k has been raised so far and a fundraising auction will launch on 11/18.

Kelly Faircloth has been such a staunch supporter of romance and her thoughts on the genre are always a wonderful read. Here is her latest on the cover of Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade.

If you’re in the mood for a long form read, let’s reminisce about Judith Krantz. This is such a thoughtful piece on romance, queerness, and the hope that comes with possibility.

I stopped watching the Great British Bake Off after the departure of Sue and Mel, but I also whole heartedly agree with this 5-point plan to “fix” GBBO.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

    I won’t exhale until January 21, 2021!

  2. Darlynne says:

The Ringer article about GBBO was great, mostly because of the way the author describes his gripes and feelings. We still watch even though the show is not the same, it’s an oasis these days, but I would also implement many of the suggestions to get it back on track.

It appears that the Ringer also writes about The Bachelor/ette. My loyalty to Elise’s recaps is unwavering, however. No one can do it better.

  3. Susan says:

I haven’t watched GBBO since the move from BBC (but, oddly, still read the recaps and articles, like this one). Paul Hollywood is insufferable and I fully support a trip to the guillotine for him. 🙂

Ditto D3! Do you realize that JFK was inaugurated Jan 20, 1961? A lot has happened in the intervening 60 years, much unimaginable.

All hail to Stacey Abrams, her incredible work in Georgia, and to her fellow romance writers, brilliant women all, who are working to help out with the runoff! It was so funny seeing an article in the NYTimes about Stacey Abrams; the writer seemed totally agog that she was ALSO a renowned romance writer. Takes brains to do that well!

@Triple D, I feel you. It’s that feeling you get when the monster has been killed, but then realize that there are still 27 minutes of movie to go.

I saw this very hilarious take on rom coms the other day and cackled for a good 5 minutes:

I like Paul Hollywood! I have a few of his cookbooks, and I enjoy his message about getting people back into the kitchen and not to be nervous about yeast. I suffer from yeast anxiety, so I’m always looking for encouraging words. No idea why I feel this way, since the worst thing that could happen is that it would all go wrong, it’s not like simple breads have expensive ingredients. I disagree with the author of the article-Hollywood actually does have extensive baking experience. I will agree he has seemed like he was playing a certain persona, but I felt he had enough warm moments that you can see through that.

Totally agree about the showstopper-and I would love to see regular, but challenging bakes.

Do I miss the original lineup? Yes! I feel like it has retained enough of it’s original charm to be a very enjoyable show.

    As always-to each their own!

  8. LMC says:

Yes, yes, and yes. ESPECIALLY about January 21. Love Stacey Abrams. Still watching GBBO, fine with Paul, but I wished they replaced Mary Berry with a person of color. Matt and Noel have too many antics, rather than lightening the mood (if I was baking I’d want them to get the F*** out of my way). Showstopper have become insane (as the “themes” as well), but I do like that they still judge on the taste as well.

  9. HeatherT says:

I am fine with most of the things that were listed as complaints about GBBO — I actually adore Matt and Noel. But #5 about the chewy biscuits (cookies) is my pet peeve too!

  10. EC Spurlock says:

I am a HUGE supporter of Stacy Abrams. The way she got the vote out here in Georgia was outstanding. Black Women Get Shit Done.

And for those that read the comics page, LUANN is starting an arc on the studious, practical Bernice learning to read romance novels. Luann’s mom recommended it as a destressing technique and loaned some of hers.

Enjoyed the piece about Judith Krantz. 🙂
