The Lion’s Den
RECOMMENDED: The Lion’s Den by Katherine St. John is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. Elyse wrote a Lightning Review for this one and gave it an A. Definitely check out her review for a list of triggers to be aware of.
This book is really two mysteries in one, and when they collide it’s a wonderful “ah-ha” moment. I wish I could say more than that, but I don’t want to ruin a single thing for another reader.
A dream vacation on a luxurious yacht turns deadly in this pulse-pounding beach read and perfect book club pick about glamour, friendship, romance, and betrayal on the Riviera.
Belle likes to think herself immune to the dizzying effects of fabulous wealth. But when her best friend, Summer, invites her on a glamorous girls’ getaway to the Mediterranean aboard her billionaire boyfriend’s yacht, the only sensible answer is yes. Belle hopes the trip will be a much-needed break from her stalled acting career and uniquely humiliating waitressing job, but once aboard the luxurious Lion’s Den, it becomes clear that all is not as it seems. The dream vacation quickly devolves into a nightmare as Belle and the handful of other girlfriends Summer has invited are treated more like prisoners than guests by their controlling host, and Belle comes to see Summer for what she truly is: a vicious gold digger who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Belle soon realizes she’s going to have to keep her wits about her — and her own big secret close to her chest — if she wants to make it off the yacht alive.

Hollow Kingdom
RECOMMENDED: Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton is $2.99! It’s part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, which features some romance and Mira Grant. Carrie gave this one an A-, but warns it’s definitely not a romance. Definitely skim her review to see if this book is right for you:
This book broke my heart but it also made me so happy.
One pet crow fights to save humanity from an apocalypse in this uniquely hilarious debut from a genre-bending literary author.
S.T., a domesticated crow, is a bird of simple pleasures: hanging out with his owner Big Jim, trading insults with Seattle’s wild crows (those idiots), and enjoying the finest food humankind has to offer: Cheetos ®.Then Big Jim’s eyeball falls out of his head, and S.T. starts to feel like something isn’t quite right. His most tried-and-true remedies–from beak-delivered beer to the slobbering affection of Big Jim’s loyal but dim-witted dog, Dennis–fail to cure Big Jim’s debilitating malady. S.T. is left with no choice but to abandon his old life and venture out into a wild and frightening new world with his trusty steed Dennis, where he discovers that the neighbors are devouring each other and the local wildlife is abuzz with rumors of dangerous new predators roaming Seattle. Humanity’s extinction has seemingly arrived, and the only one determined to save it is a foul-mouthed crow whose knowledge of the world around him comes from his TV-watching education.
Hollow Kingdom is a humorous, big-hearted, and boundlessly beautiful romp through the apocalypse and the world that comes after, where even a cowardly crow can become a hero.

Glass Tidings
RECOMMENDED: Glass Tidings by Amy Jo Cousins is 99c! Elyse read and reviewed this one. She gave it an A:
Both Eddie and Gray have to grow substantially to find HEA and both do, which makes Glass Tidings so satisfying to read. In fact I think this is one of the most emotionally rich, immersive books I’ve read all year. It’s full of really intense feelings, it’s deeply character driven, and it’s a ton of slow-burn and tiny gestures that add up to Big Things.
Eddie Rodrigues doesn’t stay in one place long enough to get attached. The only time he broke that rule, things went south fast. Now he’s on the road again, with barely enough cash in his pocket to hop a bus south after his (sort-of-stolen) car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, Midwest, USA.
He’s fine. He’ll manage. Until he watches that girl get hit by a car and left to die.
Local shop owner Grayson Croft isn’t in the habit of doing people any favors. But even a recluse can’t avoid everyone in a town as small as Clear Lake. And when the cop who played Juliet to your Romeo in the high school play asks you to put up her key witness for the night, you say yes.
Now Gray’s got a grouchy glass artist stomping around his big, empty house, and it turns out that he . . . maybe . . . kind of . . . likes the company.
But Eddie Rodrigues never sticks around.
Unless a Christmas shop owner who hates the season can show an orphan what it means to have family for the holidays.

Malfunction
Malfunction by Nina Croft is 99c! I picked this one way back in January as one of my Hide Your Wallet offerings. I’m still uncertain how much romance is in this book. If you’ve read it, please chime in below!
Investigator, Sergeant Logan Farrell, has never been convinced the human race deserves saving. But it looks like he’s got the job anyway.
It’s been five hundred years since we fled the remnants of a dying Earth in search of a new home. Twenty-four ships, each carrying ten thousand Chosen Ones. All sleeping peacefully…until people start dying in cryo.
Malfunction or murder? Hopefully, the former—a serial killer in the fleet would be drastic for morale. But Logan is determined to find the truth. Unfortunately, he’s got a new partner—and he works best alone.
Katia Mendoza, hot-shot homicide detective, has been woken from cryo to assist with the investigation. But is she really interested in solving the case, or does she have her own agenda?
Before he can answer that question, though, they become targets themselves.
Nothing like a few near misses with death to bring a couple together, and Logan finds himself falling for the alluring detective. But he doesn’t know that Katia is hiding a secret.
It’s not only humans who fled the dying Earth.

The All soul’s trilogy by Deborah Harkness is on sale in the UK for £0.99 today, not sure if it’s similar elsewhere but definitely worth checking out!
Malfunction is definitely a romance. I really enjoyed this one. Apparently, it’s sort of a prequel to another series, but it’s definitely a stand alone. I have the series on my to-read list now.
I’ll thumbs up Lion’s Den, it’s delightfully twisty and Hollow Kingdom because I adore ST and Dennis and its take on a world without people. Just be prepared because the ending is a little bit (ok, a lot) unbelievable.
FYI–The Amazon link for Glass Tidings seems to be broken.
I am positive I’ve read Glass Tidings before (and liked it) yet it was not showing in my content. So I have bought it again. But yeah, the link was broken. 🙁
@chacha1–the same thing happened to me with Glass Tidings. I was sure I’d bought it before, but it wasn’t showing as previously purchased on Amazon. Had to search my kindle for it to make sure I own it already. Not sure why that happens sometimes with Amazon.
@Cristie – I’ll call it a holiday mini-gift for the author this time. Pretty sure I picked it up on sale before anyway! #PayTheWriters
I’m another who liked Glass Tidings.
It used to be published by Riptide but no longer. That may be why the current link is no longer showing that someone has already purchased the book.
