  • The Beast of Beswick

The Beast of Beswick by Amalie Howard

The Beast of Beswick by Amalie Howard is 99c! Catherine reviewed this one and gave it a B-:

I enjoyed the complexity of the characters, and I was especially intrigued by Isobel, whose inner life is so opaque to her sister, and yet clearly quite well-developed. There’s a lot of heat and sensuality in the book, and some lovely moments of humour. These are all really big positives.

The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare meets Taming of the Shrew in the start to a new Regency series from award-winning author Amalie Howard.

Lord Nathaniel Harte, the disagreeable Duke of Beswick, spends his days smashing porcelain, antagonizing his servants, and snarling at anyone who gets too close. With a ruined face like his, it’s hard to like much about the world. Especially smart-mouthed harpies―with lips better suited to kissing than speaking―who brave his castle with indecent proposals.

But Lady Astrid Everleigh will stop at nothing to see her younger sister safe from a notorious scoundrel, even if it means offering herself up on a silver platter to the forbidding Beast of Beswick himself. And by offer, she means what no highborn lady of sound and sensible mind would ever dream of―a tender of marriage with her as his bride.

  • Let Us Dream

Let Us Dream by Alyssa Cole

Let Us Dream by Alyssa Cole is $2.99! This was Redheadedgirl’s favorite story in the Daughters of a Nation anthology. Ppyajunebug wrote a guest review for our Reader Challenge and here’s what she had to say:

Cole is one of the few authors on my instabuy list – I will buy anything she writes, regardless of genre, pairing, or length. She writes interesting, fully-realized characters with an eye towards how society shapes their experiences and personalities. “Let Us Dream” is no exception to that rule and I, and everyone else who reads it, should be thankful for that.

*This novella originally appeared in Daughters of A Nation: A Black Suffragette Historical Romance Anthology*

    Harlem, 1917

After spending half her life pretending to be something she’s not, performance is second nature for cabaret owner Bertha Hines. With the election drawing near and women’s voting rights on the ballot, Bertha decides to use her persuasive skills to push the men of New York City in the right direction.

Chef Amir Chowdhury jumped ship in New York to get a taste of the American Dream, only to discover he’s an unwanted ingredient. When ornery Amir reluctantly takes a job at The Cashmere, he thinks he’s hit the bottom of the barrel; however, working at the club reignites his dream of being a force for change. His boss, Bertha, ignites something else in him.

Bertha and Amir clash from the start, but her knowledge of politics and his knowledge of dance force them into a detente that fans the flames of latent desire. But Bertha has the vice squad on her tail, and news from home may end Amir’s dream before it comes to fruition. With their pasts and futures stacked against them, can Amir and Bertha hold on to their growing love?

  • The Dream Hunter

The Dream Hunter by Laura Kinsale

The Dream Hunter by Laura Kinsale is $1.99! This is a standalone historical romance and many reviews say this book is completely bonkers. Some also note that the audio is particularly good. Have you read this one? Is it as crazysauce as everyone says?

To love him is to face her deepest fear . . .

In search of a legendary mare, Lord Winter enters the crucible of the red sands, forging unbreakable bonds of loyalty and trust with his young companion in the desert. But hidden beneath the ragged costume of a Bedouin boy is a remarkable young woman: Zenia Stanhope, daughter of the extraordinary Queen of the Desert.

Zenia wants nothing of the danger that Lord Winter lives for. She wants only to reach England, far from the blood and sand of the desert. But in one night of terror, condemned to death, their lives are irrevocably bound. Zenia escapes to an English world of elegance and comfort, leaving behind the lonely, fearless man who has changed her life and conquered her heart . . . until he returns to invade her sanctuary.

Now she must choose between safety and love, but can she find the courage to be the person she was truly born to be?

  1. Sujata R says:

Crazysauce it is but I really enjoyed it, especially the historical aspects of the story being based on Hester Stanhope, a pioneering woman adventurer/explorer. I recommend listening to the audio rather than reading it – Nicholas Boulton is a great romance reader!

  2. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

I LOVE everything Laura Kinsale wrote and as far as I am concerned, no one does complete bonkers better than she because as I read it the air of verisimilitude is convincing.

Not to mention she knows grammar, spelling, syntax, etc.

I really miss her work. I truly look forward to her writing again. I so wish she would.

  3. Carrie G says:

For those who listen to audiobooks, Chirp has BOYFRIEND MATERIAL by Alexis Hall for 3.99. This is a fabulous audiobook. Joe Jameson should earn an award for his narration.

THE FLATSHARE by Beth O’Leary is also on sale on Chirp for $3.99. I haven’t listened to this, but reviews say the narration is good.

  4. Sydneysider says:

I liked both The Beast of Beswick and Let Us Dream, and they’re definitely worthwhile sale purchases!

  5. Qualisign says:

Loved the Dream Hunter when I first read it at least a decade ago, but a recent reread had me ranting. Silently, but it did involve pacing and possibly a bit of stamping. The primary characters never wanted the same things in life. Sex (and especially when it is only semi-consensual) does not make a HEA. The basic premise of the book is wonderful (@SujataR, you hit it dead on), but my suspension of disbelief — or suspension of belief that the H/h could carve out a HEA — was taxed too far.
