  • Chef Sugarlips

    Chef Sugarlips by Tawna Fenske

Chef Sugarlips by Tawna Fenske is 99c at Amazon! I’ve read other books in this series and they’re fun, quick reads. This one in particular was recommended in my romance book club and I’m always a sucker for foodie elements in my romance.

Sean Bracelyn can whip up a saffron-laced lobster risotto in his sleep, but relationships? That’s one recipe he hasn’t nailed. Not that he has time, between launching a new restaurant and building a luxury resort with his awkwardly-blended family. But when his dream girl nearly knocks him unconscious with a dead turkey, it’s all Sean can do to keep his eyes on the gazpacho and off Amber King’s perfect curves.

Amber’s done with guys propping her on a pedestal. Transforming her family’s reindeer ranch into a country chic wedding venue is consuming enough, and the last thing she needs is an extra serving of love drama. So what is it about the stupid-sexy chef that gets her desires bubbling like a pot of hot spaghetti?

Keeping their distance is tough enough before Sean and Amber get tossed together by wacky weddings, lingerie mishaps, and a surly three-legged cat. When Sean’s mom shows up to dish out huge helpings of family drama, a big secret threatens to spread faster than a kitchen fire.

Can Sean and Amber find the right blend of sugar and spice, or will love fall flat as a burnt soufflé?

  • Priest

    Priest by Sierra Simone

Priest by Sierra Simone is 99c! I remember Romancelandia talking about this one a lot, though there are definitely dividing reviews. Some say this is top notch smut with a taboo relationship thrown in. Others say that honestly…a lot of the Catholicism details are just plain inaccurate, or they can’t get on board with a priest hero.

There are many rules a priest can’t break. A priest cannot marry. A priest cannot abandon his flock. A priest cannot forsake his God.

I’ve always been good at following rules.

Until she came. Then I learned new rules.

My name is Tyler Anselm Bell. I’m twenty-nine years old. Six months ago, I broke my vow of celibacy on the altar of my own church, and God help me, I would do it again.

I am a priest and this is my confession.

  • The Bourbon Thief

The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz

The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz is $2.99, though at Amazon only right now! This has been on my TBR for a while, but I haven’t pulled the trigger on reading it yet. Readers loved the mystery and all the twists and secrets to this book. However, others found the ending a bit anticlimactic after all the build up. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

From the internationally celebrated author of the Original Sinners series comes a brand-new tale of betrayal, revenge and a family scandal that bore a 150-year-old mystery

When Cooper McQueen wakes up from a night with a beautiful stranger, it’s to discover he’s been robbed. The only item stolen—a million-dollar bottle of bourbon. The thief, a mysterious woman named Paris, claims the bottle is rightfully hers. After all, the label itself says it’s property of the Maddox family who owned and operated Red Thread Bourbon distillery since the last days of the Civil War until the company went out of business for reasons no one knows…no one except Paris.

In the small hours of a Louisville morning, Paris unspools the lurid tale of Tamara Maddox, heiress to the distillery that became an empire. But the family tree is rooted in tainted soil and has borne rotten fruit. Theirs is a legacy of wealth and power, but also of lies, secrets and sins of omission. The Maddoxes have bourbon in their blood—and blood in their bourbon. Why Paris wants the bottle of Red Thread remains a secret until the truth of her identity is at last revealed, and the century-old vengeance Tamara vowed against her family can finally be completed.

  1. Varian says:

Priest had *way* too much sex in it, imo, even for erotica. I also felt like Tyler wasn’t convincing in his sudden 180 from celibacy to “I can’t stop thinking about her.”

One thing I *did* enjoy about the book, was that Tyler had interests and hobbies outside of being a priest.

  2. Darlynne says:

@Varian: I enjoyed SINNER much more, perhaps because I read it first? PRIEST made me uncomfortable, something I haven’t thought about again until reading your comment. The sex IIRC was non-stop, everywhere, all the time. And while I’m all for whatever works for someone, for me it was too much.

  3. Laura says:

Reisz is a favorite and I’m snapping this one up! But I have to admit I saw the cover of Priest and thought…ohhhhhh Reisz wrote another installment of the Original Sinners!

  4. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I loved, loved, loved PRIEST—it’s one of my favorite romances and a comfort reread for me. However, I am a regular churchgoer (although not a Catholic) and I do believe you must be willing to suspend disbelief about some of the church elements in the book—for example, even the smallest of churches have secretaries and other staff and are hosting community events at all hours, so for Tyler and Poppy to be frequently alone in the church does get the eyes rolling. BUT…in terms of both emotional honesty and the development of the love relationship, I think the story is top notch. And I think it’s important that Poppy is the first person (including Tyler himself) to intuit that Tyler became a priest for all the wrong reasons. Yes, there’s a lot of sex in the book (it’s an erotic romance, after all) and it goes without saying that if you’re a devout practicing Catholic, this would not be a book for you (there are scenes both sacrilegious and blasphemous), but if you want a really hot and very emotional story, PRIEST is definitely it.

  5. Lisa F says:

Fenske writes some pretty charming stuff TBH; her romantic comedies are a lot of fun.

  6. M says:

I put down PRIEST a year or so ago after getting a few chapters in. It didn’t hold my attention to keep reading, though I admit that writing and character development go hand in hand with my willingness to suspend disbelief. I read two more Sierra Simone books (New Camelot trilogy) after that which were very, very bad (and not in the compulsive guilty pleasure way) that I permanently deleted the rest of her books from my Kindle library. To say that she’s not a writer that I enjoy is an understatement. Reisz, on the other hand, writes taboo/erotica that I enjoy a lot, though I haven’t read much of her work outside the Original Sinners universe.

  7. Laura says:

Oh and if the Reisz mention isn’t timely or what! Google: “priest and two women have sex on altar”

  8. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Laura: That happened in a town not far from where I live! If it weren’t for the possibility of Hurricane Delta making landfall here, that story would have dominated the news non-stop—even with the weather taking up a lot of our attention, we’ve been hearing about the priest & two women on the altar since it happened. Based on the articles I’ve read, I’ll just give this pro tip: never hire a dominatrix who posts on her social media accounts, “I’m off to the north shore to desecrate a church.”

  9. Laura says:

@discodollydeb—-lmao!!! You can’t make that stuff up! Hope you made it through Delta ok!

  10. Adrienne says:

Books (even writing quality) are so subjective and this thread is definitely a reminder of that! I started out with Sierra Simone’s New Camelot trilogy and I’ve been a huge fan of hers ever since. Personally, I find her prose is so lush and gorgeous and I love the depth of her characterization and fearlessness of the often taboo themes she tackles. But she’s definitely not for everyone.

  11. Kris Bock says:

From the article: investigators will be trying to fill in the holes concerning what they know about how Cheng and Dixon connected with Clark…

  12. Nina says:

TW for Bourbon Thief for attempted rape of a teen by her grandfather with the mother’s tacit permission. I can’t tell you what happened after that.

  13. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

The Bourbon Thief is more of a family generational mystery than a romance, and it’s a wild ride with several twists and turns. Not for the faint hearted. But if you liked the Thornbirds or similar, I’d definitely recommend it; I read it years ago and I still occasionally have flashes of “wow that book was bananas.”

  14. Becky says:

I am a die hard fan of Tiffany Reisz. Outside the Original Sinners series, The Bourbon Thief is my favorite. She really knows how to tell a story, and this one is captivating. LOVED IT!!! And the audio book is good, too.
