  • Dreadnought: Nemesis – Book One

Dreadnought: Nemesis – Book One by April Daniels

Dreadnought by April Daniels is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B-:

Dreadnought is my catnip in concept and yet the book bugged me a little. This story about a transgender teen superhero is a coming-out story wrapped in a cape. It has fun elements but suffers from characters who are under-developed.

An action-packed series-starter perfect for fans of The Heroine Complex and Not Your Sidekick.

Danny Tozer has a problem: she just inherited the powers of Dreadnought, the world’s greatest superhero. Until Dreadnought fell out of the sky and died right in front of her, Danny was trying to keep people from finding out she’s transgender. But before he expired, Dreadnought passed his mantle to her, and those secondhand superpowers transformed Danny’s body into what she’s always thought it should be. Now there’s no hiding that she’s a girl.

It should be the happiest time of her life, but Danny’s first weeks finally living in a body that fits her are more difficult and complicated than she could have imagined. Between her father’s dangerous obsession with “curing” her girlhood, her best friend suddenly acting like he’s entitled to date her, and her fellow superheroes arguing over her place in their ranks, Danny feels like she’s in over her head.

She doesn’t have time to adjust. Dreadnought’s murderer—a cyborg named Utopia—still haunts the streets of New Port City, threatening destruction. If Danny can’t sort through the confusion of coming out, master her powers, and stop Utopia in time, humanity faces extinction.

  • Dangerous

    Dangerous by Minerva Spencer

Dangerous by Minerva Spencer is $1.99 at Amazon! This historical romance features a heroine who is older than what we normally see in historicals. However, if you couldn’t tell by the plot description, it really harkens back to early romance novels, which some readers may want to leave in the past.

What sort of lady doesn’t make her debut until the age of thirty-two? A timeless beauty with a mysterious past—and a future she intends to take into her own hands…

Lady Euphemia Marlington hasn’t been free in seventeen years—since she was captured by Corsairs and sold into a harem. Now the sultan is dead and Mia is back in London facing relentless newspapermen, an insatiably curious public, and her first Season. Worst of all is her ashamed father’s ultimatum: marry a man of his choosing or live out her life in seclusion. No doubt her potential groom is a demented octogenarian. Fortunately, Mia is no longer a girl, but a clever woman with a secret—and a plan of her own.

Adam de Courtney’s first two wives died under mysterious circumstances. Now there isn’t a peer in England willing to let his daughter marry the dangerously handsome man the ton calls The Murderous Marquess. Nobody except Mia’s father, the desperate Duke of Carlisle. Clearly Mia must resemble an aging matron, or worse. However, in need of an heir, Adam will use the arrangement to his advantage.

But when the two outcasts finally meet, assumptions will be replaced by surprises, deceit by desire—and a meeting of minds between two schemers may lead to a meeting of hearts—if the secrets of their pasts don’t tear them apart.

  • I Think I Love You

I Think I Love You by Lauren Layne

I Think I Love You by Lauren Layne is $1.99! This is part of the Oxford series and has a friends to lovers romance. Some readers wished the hero and heroine did more communicating about their feelings, while others recommend this for a quick, sexy read! It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

A game of seduction between two best friends goes deliciously wrong in an irresistible Oxford Novel that brims with wit and sexual tension. Library Journal hails Layne’s work as exemplary contemporary romance.”

Brit Robbins knows that dating in New York City is hard—she just hoped to have it mastered by age thirty. But after yet another promising suitor says they have no sparks, Brit decides it’s time to torch her dating game and try a new plan. And who better to coach Brit through the art of seduction than the guy who first gave her the “let’s be friends” card?

Hunter Cross has always figured there’s nothing his best friend Brit can do to surprise him. But Brit’s request is a surprise he doesn’t see coming—and one he’s definitely not prepared for. Hunter and Brit have always been careful to keep things perfectly platonic, but the fake dates and faux flirting are starting to feel like the real deal. And soon Hunter realizes he has taught Brit too well. Not only has she become an expert at seduction, the man becoming thoroughly seduced is him.

  • The One Love Collection

The One Love Collection by Lauren Blakely

The One Love Collection by Lauren Blakely 99c! This boxed set came out today and includes four contemporary romances from Blakely’s One Love series. Lots of catnip it seems, but I think these books rely on the hero’s POV. Or is that another series of hers?

Indulge in four bestselling standalone romances from #1 NYT Bestseller Lauren Blakely in the One Love Collection!

    THE SEXY ONE…
Let me count the ways why falling into forbidden love is not my wisest move…

    1. She works with me every single day.

Did I mention she’s gorgeous, sweet, kind and smart?

    2. She works in my home.

Playing with my five-year-old daughter. Teaching my little girl. Cooking for my princess. Which means…

    3. She’s the nanny.

And that makes her completely off-limits…But it doesn’t stop me from wanting her. All of her.

    THE HOT ONE…
At first glance, stripping naked at my ex-girlfriend’s place of work might not seem like the brightest way to win her heart again. But trust me on this count—she always liked me best without any clothes on. And sometimes you have to play to your strengths when you’re fighting an uphill battle. As a lawyer, I know how to fight, and I’m prepared to fight hard for her. Because sometimes you need a second chance at first love.

    THE KNOCKED UP PLAN…
There are three little words most guys don’t want to hear on the first date. Not those…I mean these… “knock me up.”

This single gal has had enough of the games, the BS and the endless chase. I know what I want most, and it’s not true love. It’s a bun in the oven, and I’m not afraid to hit up my s-e-x-on-a-stick co-worker to do the job. Ryder is gorgeous, witty and charming — and he’s also a notorious commitment-phobe. That makes him the perfect candidate to make a deposit in the bank of me.

I won’t fall for him, he won’t fall for me, and there’s no way baby will make three.
    Right?

    COME AS YOU ARE…
I couldn’t have scripted a more perfect night.

For one fantastic evening, at a masquerade party in the heart of Manhattan, I’m not the millionaire everyone wants a piece of. Fine—multimillionaire. But who’s counting all those commas? Not me, and not the most intriguing woman I’ve ever met, who happens to like dancing, witty banter, and passionate up-against-the-wall action as much as I do.

There’s no need for names or business cards. And that’s why I’m eager to get to know her more, since my mystery woman seems to like me for me, rather than for my huge…bank account.

Everything’s coming up aces. Until the next day when things get a little complicated. (Newsflash — a lot complicated.)

  1. DonnaMarie says:

Super heroes are my jam, but Dangerous is giving off an alluring whiff of secret baby. What’s a girl on a budget to do?

  2. hng23 says:

@DonnaMarie: Buy Dangerous. Follow your nose.

  3. Amy says:

Dangerous is highly recommended, as are all of Minerva Spencer’s work.

  4. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Minerva Spencer also publishes under the name S.M. LaViolette, whose THE FOOTMAN was one of my favorite historical romances read this year. As LaViolette, she also publishes erotic historicals—I thought HIS COUNTESS was quite good.

  5. Laura Ann Klein says:

I’m happy to see commenters whom I trust are chiming in about Dangerous. Because there is something about the description that evoked in me an uncharacteristic and decidedly missish reaction and my “this is why you stopped reading romance novels in the 80’s” red flag went up with: “it really harkens back to early romance novels, which some readers may want to leave in the past.”

So if all ya’ll can suspend belief to the point a member of a harem would be welcome in a ton ballroom…I guess I can, too.

  6. Emma says:

I am so glad that the subgenre of “kidnapped white women in harems” is basically dead these days. *checks publication date just in case* UGH WHYYYYY

  7. Shash says:

I just read “I think I love you” by Lauren Layne and really recommend it. It’s the last book in her Oxford/stiletto series set in a magazine but the previous couples don’t annoy when they show up (haven’t read most of the series).

It’s friends to lovers “love coach” romance with lots of domestic fluff and sexual tension and yearning
