    Indigo by Beverly Jenkins

Indigo by Beverly Jenkins is $2.99 at select vendors! This book was a previous Sizzling Book Club pick and is featured in our discussion on alpha heroes in historical romance. If you’ve been waiting to give Beverly Jenkins a try, a $2.99 sale price is a pretty darn good incentive! Any Indigo fans in the Bitchery?

As a child Hester Wyatt escaped slavery, but now the dark skinned beauty is a dedicated member of Michigan’s Underground railroad, offering other runaways a chance at the freedom she has learned to love. When one of her fellow conductors brings her an injured man to hide, Hester doesn’t hesitate even after she is told about the price on his head. The man in question is the great conductor known as the “Black Daniel” a vital member of the North’s Underground railroad network, but Hester finds him so rude and arrogant, she begins to question her vow to hide him.

When the injured and beaten Galen Vachon, aka, the Black Daniel awakens in Hester’s cellar, he is unprepared for the feisty young conductor providing his care. As a member of one of the wealthiest free Black families in New Orleans, Galen has turned his back on the lavish living he is accustomed to in order to provide freedom to those enslaved in the south. However, as he heals he cannot turn his back on Hester Wyatt. Her innocence fills him like a breath of fresh air and he is determined to make her his, but traitors have to be found, slave catchers have to be routed and Hester’s refusal to trust her own heart have to be overcome before she and Galen can find the freedom only love can bring.

  • Hired

    Hired by Zoey Castile

Hired by Zoey Castile is $2.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! This is the second book in the Happy Endings series and I enjoyed this one! I actually think it might be my favorite book in the trilogy, as both the hero and heroine just genuinely love being around one another. My only complaint was that I felt the heroine’s relationship with her mother could have used more of a resolution.

For a man who makes his living pleasuring women, what happens when the only pay-out worth having is love?

Faith Abigail Charles has always done the right thing. So when her mother runs for mayor of New Orleans, Faith puts her law career on hold to help her win. But when tensions run high, Faith trades one kind of heat for another—in the arms of a hard-bodied stranger. He’s everything a woman dreams of in a lover. So much so that her one-night stand turns into two, then three, then four . . .

For Aiden Rios, meeting smart, sexy Faith feels like fate. After being ditched by his client in the Big Easy, the high-paid male escort needs a little company himself. Aiden knows he’ll have to come clean about his line of work, and he plans to—right after another taste of Faith’s sweetness—and another and another. . . . Until a chance meeting with his client leaves Aiden exposed—and Faith shocked and hurt. Now the hired hottie must show Faith that the love they share is bigger than the scandal threatening to destroy them . . .

  • When a Duchess Says I Do

When a Duchess Says I Do by Grace Burrowes

When a Duchess Says I Do by Grace Burrowes is $1.99! This is book two in the Rogues to Riches series. I thought we reviewed this one, but my memory has failed me. I tend to be pretty meh on Burrowes’ historical romances, but I’m probably the minority.

An enchanting Regency romance with a fairy-tale twist from an always witty and delightful New York Times bestselling author who Tessa Dare calls “a romance treasure.”

Duncan Wentworth tried his hand at rescuing a damsel in distress once long ago, and he’s vowed he’ll never make that mistake again. Nonetheless, when he comes across Matilda Wakefield in the poacher-infested and far-from-enchanted woods of his estate, decency compels him to offer aid to a lady fallen on hard times. Matilda is whip-smart, she can read Duncan’s horrible penmanship, and when she wears his reading glasses, all Duncan can think about is naughty Latin poetry.

Matilda cannot entrust her secrets to Duncan without embroiling him in the problems that sent her fleeing from London, but neither can she ignore a man who’s honorable, a brilliant chess player, and maddeningly kissable. She needs to stay one step ahead of the enemies pursuing her, though she longs to fall into Duncan’s arms. Duncan swears he has traded in his shining armor for a country gentleman’s muddy boots, but to win the fair maid, he’ll have to ride into battle one more time.

  • An Inconvenient Duke

An Inconvenient Duke by Anna Harrington

An Inconvenient Duke by Anna Harrington is $2.99! This is book one in the Lords of the Armory series. This historical romance features the “off-limits sibling of a friend” trope. If that’s your particular catnip, maybe pick this one up.

Marcus Braddock, Duke of Hampton and former general, is back from war and faced with mourning the death of his beloved sister, Elise. Marcus believes his sister’s death wasn’t an accident and he’s determined to learn the truth, starting with Danielle, the beautiful daughter of a baron and his sister’s best friend.

Danielle is keeping deadly secrets of her own. She has dedicated her life to a charity that helps abused women―the same charity Elise was working for the night she died. When Danielle’s work puts her life in danger, Marcus comes to her rescue. But Danielle may not need rescuing…

This is a pretty nice selection! I’ve read and enjoyed all of them.

  4. Maureen says:

I liked the Rogues to Riches series quite a bit, but I will say When A Duchess Says I Do was my least favorite. I was sad because Duncan was a character that very much interested me in the previous books.

  5. Shel says:

$0.99 – Silk Swords and Surrender by Jeannie Lin (short stories and a novella omnibus)

$0.99 – Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep

  6. WS says:

You might be in the minority, but you’re not alone. I cannot ever manage to remember the Burroughs books I’ve read. I guess if I were short on books to read, I could reread them because they’d be new to be, but I’m not, and had rather read something that sticks in my mind.

  7. Etv13 says:

I was reading some Burrows book and finding it . . Okay, and then I got to the assertion that most men (we are talking 19th century aristocrats here) ditch their valets upon marriage and have their wives dress them and I just couldn’t take any more.

  8. Emma says:

Grace Burrowes can be a good writer, but that one book where the woman was the daughter of missionaries in China and came back as the “China expert” was vomit-inducing.

  9. LML says:

The cover of Indigo is lovely.
