The Lord I Left

RECOMMENDED: The Lord I Left by Scarlett Peckham is $1.99! Thanks for everyone who let us know about this sale. I believe it’s best to read this series in order, rather than as standalones. Claudia gave this one a B+:
There was a lot to like and enjoy: plenty of funny and tender moments, thoughtful discussions, and some of my favorite setups in romance, including an “one room at the inn” scenario.
He’s a minister to whores… She’s a fallen woman…
Lord Lieutenant Henry Evesham is an evangelical reformer charged with investigating the flesh trade in London. His visits to bawdy houses leave him with a burning desire to help sinners who’ve lost their innocence to vice—even if the temptations of their world test his vow not to lose his moral compass…again.
As apprentice to London’s most notorious whipping governess, Alice Hull is on the cusp of abandoning her quiet, rural roots for the city’s swirl of provocative ideas and pleasures—until a family tragedy upends her dreams and leaves her desperate to get home. When the handsome, pious Lord Lieutenant offers her a ride despite the coming blizzard, she knows he is her best chance to reach her ailing mother—even if she doesn’t trust him.
He has the power to destroy her… She has the power to undo him…
As they struggle to travel the snow-swept countryside, they find their suspicion of each other thawing into a longing that leaves them both shaken. Alice stirs Henry’s deepest fantasies, and he awakens parts of her she thought she’d foresworn years ago. But Henry is considering new regulations that threaten the people Alice holds dear, and association with a woman like Alice would threaten Henry’s reputation if he allowed himself to get too close.
Is falling for the wrong person a test of faith …or a chance at unimagined grace?

RECOMMENDED: Dance Upon the Air by Nora Roberts is $2.99! This is book one the Three Sisters Island series and the second is also on sale. Elyse picked this up when she needed some time to process a tragedy that hit close to home:
I started reading Nora Roberts’ Dance Upon the Air. I’ve just discovered Nora, and she couldn’t have come into my life at a better time. I needed a romance novel desperately. I needed to give my brain the space to heal.
When Nell Channing arrives on charming Three Sisters Island, she believes that she’s finally found refuge from her abusive husband—and from the terrifying life she fled so desperately eight months ago…But even in this quiet, peaceful place, Nell never feels entirely at ease. Careful to conceal her true identity, she takes a job as a cook at the local bookstore café—and begins to explore her feelings for the island sheriff, Zack Todd. But there is a part of herself she can never reveal to him—for she must continue to guard her secrets if she wants to keep the past at bay. One careless word, one misplaced confidence, and the new life she’s created so carefully could shatter completely. Just as Nell starts to wonder if she’ll ever be able to break free of her fear, she realizes that the island suffers under a terrible curse—one that can only be broken by the descendants of the Three Sisters, the witches who settled the island back in 1692. And now, with the help of two other strong, gifted women—and with the nightmares of the past haunting her every step—she must find the power to save her home, her love…and herself…

Scoring with the Wrong Twin by Naima Simone is 99c! This is a contemporary sports romance and the first book in the WAGs series. Aarya recommended this one in our Underdog Twin Rec League. Have you read this one?
Shy, awkward Sophia Cruz has a hard time telling her vivacious identical twin “no.” But when her sister begs her to swap places for a modeling shoot, she caves … again. Then Zephirin Black walks onto the set. The brooding, aloof, and gorgeous tight end for the Washington Warriors. But she can keep it professional… She has to. Because the adorkable Cruz twin has no luck with guys once they compare her to her sister.
After a bad break-up, Zeph hasn’t been big on second chances—and even less with trust. But he finds himself giving please-call-me-by-my-middle-name-Sophia both. The woman he’d dismissed as a spoiled cover model is different from the first time he met her. Quirkier. Funnier. Definitely sexier. What started as one night turns into another…and another…and another…
Still, Sophia can’t go on keeping her secret from him. But telling Zeph the truth will mean losing him for good.

The Wrong Highlander by Lynsay Sands is $1.99! This is a price-matched Kindle Daily Deal. It’s part of the Highland Brides series and these covers are pure fan service and I’m very okay with it. I’m super curious about this one because it has the heroine kidnapping the wrong highlander, but Sands’ writing style is hit or miss for me.
A laird’s daughter kidnaps a Highlander—and loses her heart… in New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands’ new historical romance…
Lady Evina Maclean has heard much about Rory Buchanan’s skill as a healer. What she hasn’t heard is how good the brawny Highlander looks bathing in a waterfall. But Evina can’t afford the distraction, for her ailing father urgently needs care. Only when she’s rendered Buchanan unconscious and dragged him back to her family’s castle does the truth emerge—it’s not Rory she’s kidnapped but his brother Conran.
Other ladies try to ensnare Conran with flattery. Evina hits him over the head with the hilt of her sword to save her kin—and Conran likes the spirited redhead all the more for it. He’s learned enough from his brother to heal Evina’s father, but there are other dangers swirling around the Maclean clan. And while the beautiful, independent lady has sworn not to marry, this wrong Highlander may be just the right man for her.

Nora Roberts is my romance comfort food. I just finished this trilogy yesterday and it was a lovely palate cleanser between some heavier reads.
The Lord I Left is quite possibly the best book of the series & the series as a whole is one of the best I’ve read in a very long time.
I can’t get over how much the guy on the cover of “Scoring with the Wrong Twin” looks like Karamo from Queer Eye. (That is in no way a complaint!)
Aw, such warm fuzzy memories of Roberts’ Three Island Trilogy!
Lynsay Sands was a new to me author until last month-when I devoured all the Highland Brides series. They were good fun! My favorite cover is Falling For the Highlander-yowza!
I have taken more than one dip in Highland waters and the only thing I’m getting off that cover is how wrong it is that he is tanned, rather than blue and goosebumped.
I spend so much time looking at Naima Simone’s IG, I feel like I have to buy the book!
Oh my gosh, the Peckham book, chapter 29. Possibly the hottest scene I’ve read in a romance.
