  • Beautiful Wreck

    Beautiful Wreck by Larissa Brown

RECOMMENDED: Beautiful Wreck by Larissa Brown is $3.99! Elyse really enjoyed this book and gave it a B+:

If you like historical detail, slow burn romance, and virgin heroes, you need to click buy right now. Some readers will definitely find Beautiful Wreck too slow or dislike the futuristic element, but for me, this book was exactly what I needed.

In a bleak future built on virtual reality, Ginn is a romantic who yearns for something real. She designs environments for people who play at being Vikings. But when her project goes awry, she’s stranded in the actual 10th century, on a storybook farm in Viking Iceland.

Heirik is the young leader of his family, honored by the men and women who live on his land. But he is feared and isolated because of a terrible curse. Ginn and Heirik are two people who never thought they would find a home in someone else’s heart.

When forces rise against them to keep them apart, Ginn is called on to decide—will she give up the brutal and beautiful reality of the past? Or will she have the courage to traverse time and become more of a Viking than she ever imagined?

  • She Walks in Shadows

She Walks in Shadows by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

RECOMMENDEDShe Walks in Shadows is $2.99 at Amazon, which means this deal could be expiring ASAP. Carrie loved this Lovecraftian anthology, but definitely warns there is no romance.  She gave it an A-:

This collection has adventure and horror, sex, violence, and some very dark humor. The one thing missing from this anthology is any romance – that’s not surprising, since the Lovecraft style is not terribly conducive to romance.

They emerge from the shadows, to claim the night ….

Women from around the world delve into Lovecraftian depths, penning and illustrating a variety of Weird horrors. The pale and secretive Lavinia wanders through the woods, Asenath is a precocious teenager with an attitude, and the Ancient Egyptian pharaoh Nitocris has found a new body in distant America. And do you have time to hear a word from our beloved mother Shub-Niggurath?

Defiant, destructive, terrifying, and harrowing, the women in She Walks in Shadows are monsters and mothers, heroes and devourers. Observe them in all their glory. Iä! Iä!

  • Forever Mine

    Forever Mine by Erin Nicholas

RECOMMENDED: Forever Mine by Erin Nicholas is 99c! Elyse loved this one and gave it an A:

If you need to just feel really good for awhile, or you really love cosplay or comics or guys who specialize in blood disorders, this book is absolutely your catnip. It’s “read in one sitting good.”

Maya Goodwin doesn’t believe in holding back. Ever. As a cop, she never hesitated to throw herself into harm’s way to save someone. Even after an injury on the job forces her to retire, she’s not afraid to keep risking it all to get the life she wants. With a new career teaching martial arts to kids already underway, she’s looking forward to the future – and taking a chance on the unbelievably hot Dr. Alex Nolan.

Maya – daring and spontaneous – is the exact opposite of what Alex always thought he wanted. But when a nine-year-old daughter he never knew existed shows up on his doorstep, Maya is the one who helps them hold it together. With love on the line, will the guy who’s always played it safe be willing to take the biggest risk of all?

  • The Billionaire’s Wake-Up-Call Girl

The Billionaire’s Wake-Up-Call Girl by Annika Martin

The Billionaire’s Wake-Up-Call Girl by Annika Martin is 99c! I grabbed this one a while ago (July 2018), but have yet to get around to reading it. However, it does seem pretty cute. Have you read this one? What did you think?

When my manager assigns me the task of finding a new wake up call service for our CEO, I think, how hard can this be?

Answer: practically impossible. It turns out that no wake-up call company in the world will take him on as a client. They’ve all had enough of his surly personality.

So in an effort not to lose my job, I secretly start making the calls myself, every day at 4:30 am sharp. OMG yes you read that right—four freaking thirty in the morning.

Confession: I’m not the nicest wake-up-call girl at that hour. Hello! Who wakes up before the roosters are even crowing? Luckily he doesn’t seem to mind my get-your-ass-out-of-bed attitude.

Day by day we’re becoming closer, and the calls start turning hot, like pay-by-the-minute hot and oh-so-wild. Snuggled under the covers with the moonlight streaming in the windows, we divulge our secrets to each other, but the one thing that he can never find out is that the sexy vixen who wakes him up every morning is just the lowly assistant who wears frumpy dresses. I can only imagine his disappointment.

Now he wants to take me out on a date and he’s scouring Manhattan to find me. He’s an overachieving billionaire bent on a mission. How much longer can I keep up this charade?

I read and loved “The Billionaire’s Wake-Up Call Girl” for some bizarre reason. It was basically a palate-cleansing amuse bouche.

Although they can be read as stand-alines, I would recommend reading Annika Martin’s Manhattan Billionaires series in order. THE BILLIONAIRE’S WAKE-UP-CALL GIRL (hyphen placement is very important there) is the second book after MOST ELIGIBLE BILLIONAIRE (which I think is the best in the series). It’s a fun story—although in this day and age, you have to suspend disbelief that someone still needs a wake-up call. The third, BREAKING THE BILLIONAIRE’S RULES, has an almost insurmountable power imbalance and was my least favorite. I liked the fourth book, THE BILLIONAIRE’S FAKE FIANCÉE. There’s a fifth one scheduled for next month (RETURN BILLIONAIRE TO SENDER).

  3. Qualisign says:

Oops. Hyphen placement is always important, especially here. Mea culpa.

  4. JudyW says:

I also read The Billionaire’s Wake-Up-Call-Girl and enjoyed it immenseley. Although the cover I have is totally different and it seems ALL the romance books are jumping on the cartoon/illustrated cover design wagon. I enjoyed Beautiful Wreck even more but it IS a bit more dense to get through with a lot of detail and slower to develop love story. Much like food the heavier book Beautiful Wreck will stay with you longer as well.

Forever Mine was a fun read.

  6. Nicolette says:

I nabbed The Billionaire’s Wake-Up-Call Girl *just* because of this post and OH GIRL, you saved my book slump. Romance novels have been a major stress outlet for me, so this was no small thing. Thank you, Amanda!
