  • A Cowboy to Remember

A Cowboy to Remember by Rebekah Weatherspoon

A Cowboy to Remember by Rebekah Weatherspoon is 99c at Amazon and $1.99 elsewhere! Shana reviewed this one and gave it a B:

A Cowboy to Remember was an enjoyable read, but left me with the type of disappointment that only happens when your expectations are very high. Still, this is a low angst, and frequently funny romance that allows readers to get their cowboy fix without traveling to a red state.

In this brand-new series from award-winning author Rebekah Weatherspoon, a charming cowboy and his sleeping beauty find their modern-day happily ever after . . .

With a headline spot on a hit morning show and truly mouth-watering culinary skills, chef Evie Buchanan is perched on the edge of stardom. But at an industry party, a fall lands Evie in the hospital—with no memory of who she is. Scrambling to help, Evie’s assistant contacts the only “family” Evie has left, close friends who run the luxury dude ranch in California where Evie grew up. Evie has no recollection of them—until former rodeo champion Zach Pleasant walks into her hospital room, and she realizes his handsome face has been haunting her dreams . . .

Zach hasn’t seen Evie in years—not since their families conducted a campaign to make sure their childhood friendship never turned into anything more. When the young cowboy refused to admit the feelings between them were real, Evie left California, making it clear she never wanted to see Zach again. Now he refuses to make the same mistake twice. Starting fresh is a risk when they have a history she can’t recall, but Zach can’t bear to let go of her now. Can he awaken the sleeping beauty inside her who might still love him?

  • Best Laid Plans

Best Laid Plans by Lauren Blakely

Best Laid Plans by Lauren Blakely is 99c! This is the first book in the Lucky in Love series and has friends to lovers and the super catnippy trope of “seduction lessons.” Blakely writes a lot of romances from the hero’s POV, but this one might have both here.

That time I had the brilliant idea to ask my good friend for lessons in seduction…

Awkward? Maybe. But how else is a good girl going to find out if she likes being naughty? I might be sweet as cherry pie, but I’m also bold and damn curious. And Gabe is charming, trustworthy, aces at seduction (or so I hear) and—bonus!— willing to give me lessons. But to guarantee it won’t ruin our friendship, I have some specific requirements for his instruction. I want these classes to be hypothetical more than hands-on. So what if he’s hella sexy? I can handle that, no problem.

    ***

I have it bad for Arden. She’s bright, brilliant, insanely fun, and I want to take her home and spend all night together—and then spend the day with her, too. When she asks for my help, I see my chance to win her sweet heart by showing her how much fun we can have getting spicy. Trouble is, she has a different idea of what “bedroom exploration” should mean. Now I’m going to have to get really clever to win her over.

Good thing I know exactly how to upend her best laid plans.

What do you do when you want the one person you can never have?

Get in and get out. That was India Robidoux’s plan for this family visit. But when her brother needs her help with his high-profile political campaign, India has no choice but to stay and face the one man she’s been running from for years—Travis, her sister’s ex-husband. One hot summer night when Travis was still free, they celebrated her birthday with whiskey and an unforgettable kiss. The memory is as strong as ever—and so are the feelings she’s tried so hard to forget.

Travis Strickland owes everything to the Robidoux family. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for them—his divorce could never change that. Still, he has one regret. Impulsive and passionate, India always understood him better than anyone else. And the longer they work together on the campaign, the more torn he is. Coming between her and her sister is out of the question. But how can he let love pass him by a second time?

  1. Darlynne says:

Falling for her sister’s ex-husband is a trope I’d never thought about, but I am completely intrigued. The excerpt just put paid to that. Thanks.

  2. DiscoDollyDeb says:

One-clicking the Dark Fairy Tales right now—so many of my “dark romance” favorite authors. I will caution, however, that even though I haven’t read these stories yet, all of these writers can get VERY DARK, so you have been forewarned.

Also on KDD today, Winter Renshaw’s beautifully-written THE BEST MAN, for only 99-cents. It’s a lovely, slow-burn story, with the faintest trace of the other-worldly, about a woman who witnesses a car accident and stops to help the victim until the ambulance arrives. The story, with lots of twists and turns, takes off from there. I loved how Renshaw kept all of the narrative threads moving. Highly recommended.

  3. Lizzy says:

@DiscoDollyDeb same! Skye Warren is my absurdly dark, bonkers plot catnip. Gimme the dark fairytales!

  4. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Lizzy: you and me both, girl! I think I’ve read at least one book by everyone on that list and I’m anticipating some dark & angsty goodness ahead!

  5. Lisa F says:

I definitely remember A Cowboy to Remember being wonderful!

  6. Emily B says:

A Cowboy to Remember didn’t work for me. There was a lot going on – movie star grandma, actor brother, nfl player brother, they own a ranch, heroine is a food network star, now she has amnesia! I felt like the whole thing could have done with some paring down – amnesia alone is already a lot. Also, the sex scenes are very tame to the point of being mostly off the page, which I don’t have a problem with generally, but Weatherspoon writes such hot scenes in her previous novellas that I couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed.

  7. Ren Benton says:

THE LUMINOUS DEAD by Caitlin Starling (AKA The Descent iiiiin spaaaace) is $2.99. Great isolation horror. The ending was a little more optimistic than I would have liked, given the trajectory up to that point, but many HEA-preferring folks may consider that upturn a feature, not a bug.

  8. Tam says:

Bought the Synithia Williams purely because that is a GREAT hero on the cover. He looks as if he’s genuinely happy to be there and kissing her, as opposed to giving a constipated glower.

I suspect that the ex-BIL thing is one of those tropes which works in fiction while absolutely grossing me out when I consider it in regards to my own life. (God love my BILs, but hell no. And bless their wives for putting up with them.)

  9. EJ says:

I am addicted to Skye Warren even though I need serious brain bleach when I’m done with one of her books.

  10. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@EJ: My view of Warren’s work is that she writes about people who are damaged and sometimes that damage is so deep the only other person who can understand is someone who is equally damaged. Her stuff is dark and I always CW/TW for her books when I post about them in WAYR, but for people who like “dark romance,” her stuff is fabulous.
