  • Milady

    Milady by Laura Sullivan

RECOMMENDED: Milady by Laura L. Sullivan is $2.99! Elyse reviewed this one and gave it an A:

This book never slows down, and as a result, I totally pulled a Bad Decisions Book Club, reading until 2 in the morning. If you enjoy a heroine who is full of rage and infinitely more capable than the men around her, then Milady is the book for you.

From the glittering ballrooms of 17th Century England to the dangerous intrigues of the French court, Laura L. Sullivan brings an unlikely heroine to the page, turning on its head everything we’ve been told about The Three Musketeers and their ultimate rival.

I’ve gone by many names, though you most likely know me as Milady de Winter: Villainess. Seductress. A secondary player in someone else’s tale.

It’s finally time I tell my own story. The truth isn’t tidy or convenient, but it’s certainly more interesting.

Before you cast judgment, let me start at the beginning, and you shall learn how an innocent girl from the countryside became the most feared woman in all of Europe.

Because we all know history was written by men, and they so often get things wrong.

  • The Start of Something Good

The Start of Something Good by Jennifer Probst

The Start of Something Good by Jennifer Probst is 99c at Amazon! An enemies to lovers contemporary, this one is the first in a new series. Readers loved the tension and chemistry between the main characters. However, others wanted more obstacles for the couple to overcome.

An enriching story of family ties, broken hearts, and second chances from New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst.

When Ethan Bishop returns to the Hudson Valley, his body and spirit are a little worse for wear. As a former Special Forces paratrooper, he saw his fair share of conflict, and he came home with wounds, inside and out. At his sisters’ B & B and farm, he can keep all his pain at a safe distance. But quiet time isn’t easy when a fiery woman explodes into his life…

It’s business—not pleasure—that brings Manhattan PR agent Mia Thrush reluctantly to the farm. Tightly wound and quick tempered, Mia clashes immediately with the brooding Ethan. Everything about him is irritating—from his lean muscles and piercing blue eyes to his scent of sweat and musk.

But as the summer unfolds and temperatures rise, Ethan and Mia discover how much they have in common: their guarded histories, an uncontrollable desire, and a passion for the future that could heal two broken hearts. But will their pasts threaten their fragile chance at a brand-new future?

  • The Unyielding

    The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston

RECOMMENDEDThe Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! This is the third book in the Call of Crows series, which Sarah absolutely loves. Sarah gave this book a B:

This series, and each book within it, makes me feel better whenever I’m stressed or feeling powerless and overwhelmed. It acknowledges the rage inherent in feeling powerless, and transforms that rage into useful, powerful action. It’s the best kind of catharsis.

Stieg Engstrom, Angriest Viking Ever, has got big problems. The human Viking Clans of earth are in danger of being obliterated—along with the rest of the world—and the only one who may be able to save them is a super pain-in-the-ass Crow. Most people annoy Stieg, but this is the one woman he really can’t stand…

Erin Amsel loves being a Crow! Why wouldn’t she when the other Viking Clans are so hilariously arrogant and humorless? She’s not about to let all that come to an end! She just didn’t expect to be shoulder to shoulder in battle with Stieg. Then again, he’s so easy to torment—and also kind of cute.

With the future of the world riding on them, Stieg knows he’ll have to put aside his desperate need to kiss the smirk right off Erin’s face. Wait. What? He didn’t mean that—did he? No! They have one goal: To conquer the idiots. Because nothing bugs Stieg more than when idiots win. If only he can keep himself from suddenly acting like one….

  • Beard in Mind

Beard in Mind by Penny Reid

Beard in Mind by Penny Reid is $1.99 at Amazon! This is the fourth book in the Winston Brothers series and a Kindle Daily Deal! Check out today’s other deals as they include some romance (Nora Roberts!). Some readers wanted more of the heroine’s POV, but many said they pulled a Bad Decisions Book Club and stayed up all night reading it.

All is fair in love and auto maintenance.

Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.

Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.

She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words. Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.

The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity—exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity—and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean losing what matters most.

  1. Darlynne says:

Amazon US has Barry Maitland’s THE CHALON HEADS on sale for $1.99. This is the fourth title in his Brock and Kolla London-based crime novels, but happens to be the one I started with and still my favorite. Come for the investigation, stay to learn about Chalon Head stamps and philately (cannot believe I spelled that right the first time).

  2. SAP says:

As of lunchtime, the Shelly Laurenston is not on promo at B&N. Hopefully later!

  3. Laurel says:

I loved the Call of Crows series. Shelly Laurenston is hit or miss for me, but these were a big hit. You don’t want to start with the third book, but you do want to read it after the first two. I wish this series had more books – I love them (and have them on audio as well).

  4. Brooke says:

A Dangerous Collaboration (A Veronica Speedwell Mystery Book 4) by Deanna Raybourne is $1.99 at Amazon.

  5. Ele says:

I read and enjoyed both the Shelley Laursenston and the Penny Reid books. The Unyielding does have what some have described as a scene with dubious consent (male consent), but is great in terms of action and adventure. The Reid book has, if I’m recalling correctly (I get all those beards mixed up) a heroine that is not neurotypical, which makes for a nice change of pace.

  6. FashionablyEvil says:

Oh man, The Unyielding was a DNF for me—I nearly threw it across the room which would have been a poor choice as I was reading on my Kindle. I hated all the characters, the casual violence drove me round the bend, and the consent issues were what finally made me want to throw the book. Laurenston is definitely on my “absolutely not my cup of tea” list.

  7. Kareni says:

@FashionablyEvil, you’re in good company as Laurenston also does not work for me.
