  • The Earl Takes a Fancy

The Earl Takes a Fancy by Lorraine Heath

The Earl Takes a Fancy by Lorraine Heath is $1.99! I know a lot of us perk up when bookstores and book-loving characters appear in romance, though this didn’t deliver as well as Carrie had hoped. She gave it a C-.

New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath pens another richly satisfying romance in her Sins for all Seasons series.

    She’s looking for a nobleman to wed…

Though born out of wedlock, Fancy Trewlove is determined to fulfill her mother’s wish that she marry into nobility. Fancy’s keen intellect and finishing school manners make her the perfect wife for any gentleman—if he’s willing to overlook her scandalous lineage. But Fancy’s plans are thrown into chaos when an intriguing commoner begins visiting her bookshop—and she finds herself unable to stop thinking about him.

He’s looking to escape his title…

Widowed just a year ago, the reclusive Matthew Sommersby, Earl of Rosemont, has been besieged by women hoping to become his next wife. Desperate for anonymity, he sheds Society life to search for the peace that eludes him. Fancy’s shop is his one refuge, until the night their passion erupts into a kiss that nearly leads to her ruin—and leaves both longing for much more.

Together, they discover an unlikely love…

As Fancy finds herself torn between her family’s expectations and her growing feelings for Matthew, secrets are exposed—secrets that force Fancy to question if she can trust her heart’s desire…

  • Meet Cute

    Meet Cute by Helena Hunting

Meet Cute by Helena Hunting is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, which also features a mix of genre fiction and nonfiction. I made a yummy, boozy chocolate peanut butter milkshake for this release. Readers found this to be a little too cutesy, while others recommend this one for a bubbly and sweet romance.

The New York Times bestselling author of Pucked and The Good Luck Charm delivers a Hollywood happily-ever-after where a famous heartthrob falls for his ultimate fangirl in this sexy standalone romantic comedy.

Talk about an embarrassing introduction. On her first day of law school, Kailyn ran – quite literally – into the actor she crushed on as a teenager, ending with him sprawled on top of her. Mortified to discover the Daxton Hughes was also a student in her class, her embarrassment over their meet-cute quickly turned into a friendship she never expected. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming either…

Now, eight years later, Dax is in her office asking for legal advice. Despite her anger, Kailyn can’t help feeling sorry for the devastated man who just became sole guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister. But when her boss gets wind of Kailyn’s new celebrity client, there’s even more at stake than Dax’s custody issues: if she gets Dax to work at their firm, she’ll be promoted to partner.

The more time Kailyn spends with Dax and his sister, the more she starts to feel like a family, and the more she realizes the chemistry they had all those years ago is as fresh as ever. But will they be able to forgive the mistakes of the past, or will one betrayal lead to another?

  • Irresistible Force

    Irresistible Force by D.D. Ayres

Irresistible Force by D.D. Ayres is $1.99! This is the first book in the K-9 Rescue series. After reading some of the Goodreads reviews, there were readers who felt the execution was lacking, but many really loved the dog, Bogart. I bet Bogart’s a good boy.

When adrenaline runs high, so does the force of desire…

For Shay Appleton, it’s love at first sight when a gorgeous stray dog is brought into the animal shelter where she works. She just knows he’ll make a terrific watch dog—and with an abusive ex who won’t let go, she needs all the protection she can get. But Shay never suspected that her new pet is actually a trained police K-9 named Bogart—until Bogart’s even more gorgeous, human partner shows up on her doorstep.

Officer James Cannon is one tall, strong alpha male who’s convinced that Shay stole his dog. But once he gets closer to the suspect, he realizes that this stubborn, independent woman not only needs a guard dog, she needs James as well. It seems that someone from her past is stalking her, and threatening her life. When danger meets desire, will James risk his career and his best friend…to protect the woman who’s stolen his heart?

  • Undiscovered

    Undiscovered by Anna Hackett

Undiscovered by Anna Hackett is $2.99! This is the first book in the Treasure Hunter Security romantic suspense series. I’ve enjoyed Hackett’s other books and am intrigued by the setup. There’s also a later book in the series that switches up these traditional roles by having a bodyguard heroine!

One former Navy SEAL. One dedicated archeologist. One secret map to a fabulous lost oasis.

Finding undiscovered treasures is always daring, dangerous, and deadly. Perfect for the men of Treasure Hunter Security. Former Navy SEAL Declan Ward is haunted by the demons of his past and throws everything he has into his security business–Treasure Hunter Security. Dangerous archeological digs – no problem. Daring expeditions – sure thing. Museum security for invaluable exhibits – easy. But on a simple dig in the Egyptian desert, he collides with a stubborn, smart archeologist, Dr. Layne Rush, and together they get swept into a deadly treasure hunt for a mythical lost oasis. When an evil from his past reappears, Declan vows to do anything to protect Layne.

Dr. Layne Rush is dedicated to building a successful career–a promise to the parents she lost far too young. But when her dig is plagued by strange accidents, targeted by a lethal black market antiquities ring, and artifacts are stolen, she is forced to turn to Treasure Hunter Security, and to the tough, sexy, and too-used-to-giving-orders Declan. Soon her organized dig morphs into a wild treasure hunt across the desert dunes. Danger is hunting them every step of the way, and Layne and Declan must find a way to work together…to not only find the treasure but to survive.

Ummm, sorry but that Meet Cute cover looks as if the are slurping each others’ saliva. Sure we swap it when we kiss, but I wouldn’t drink Mr J’s saliva, just yucky.

  2. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Re UNDISCOVERED: If “female bodyguard” is your catnip, I just started Jackie Ashenden’s latest HP, PROMOTED TO HIS PRINCESS, which has a female bodyguard who is part of a prince’s security detail. I know HPs aren’t to everyone’s tastes, but the female bodyguard trope is relatively rare, so I wanted to share.

  3. Star says:

Bogart IS a good boy! SUCH a good boy.

Alas, I wish I could say the same for his human co-stars, both of which were horrible people who decided to handle their situation as poorly as possible. The synopsis is a lie: Shay DID suspect that he was a former police dog, and she deliberately refrained from taking any steps to verify this because she didn’t want to have to give him up. I wanted to sympathise with her, because she had been through hell, and she did need protection and a good dog, but her sense of entitlement towards Bogart appalled me.

The author also did one of my least favourite authorial manipulations: trying to get me on the side of the person in the wrong by making the other one as awful as possible. James is a total asshole about the situation. This is completely true. But… Bogart is still his dog/work partner. Not Shay’s. The fact that he is a horrible person whose behaviour is completely out of line doesn’t change the fact that Shay (who is also a horrible person) is in the wrong. I HATE when authors try to pull something like that.

Oh, and bonus, there’s a cartoonishly evil ex-girlfriend.

I loved The Earl Takes a Fancy!

  5. Another Anne says:

Apparently, I bought Meet Cute during an earlier sale and forgot. Time to rearrange the TBR folder on my kindle and move it to the top.

Funny in Farsi is another KDD, it is a memoir written by an Iranian woman who came to the U.S. in the 1970s. I read it several years ago at the recommendation of a friend with immigrant grandparents and really enjoyed it. In part this may be because I was a child during the 1970s, so I can relate to many of the cultural things that the author encounters.

Also, one of Louise Penney’s mysteries is on sale. They go on sale occasionally — but if you don’t have this one, it is a good opportunity to add it to the TBR list.

  6. Carrie G says:

There is a book of short stories by Robin McKinley on sale, The Door in the Hedge, and book 4 in Charlotte MacLeod’s Sarah Kelling and Max Bittersohn mystery series, The Bilbao Looking Glass. I’ve always enjoyed MacLeod’s mysteries.

  7. Ulrike says:

I HATED Meet Cute. It came up every time I searched my library’s database to see if they’d gotten Helen Hoang’s new book yet. It annoyed me because the cover art and author’s name are similar enough to get my hopes up until I looked more closely, and I got fooled more than once! I finally decided to give it a chance, and DNFed it! It is BAD! The two main characters are both attorneys. The writer apparently did ZERO research about law in California (where the story is set) or the US in general, nor did she have anyone with legal experience give the manuscript a once over. The ethics violations throughout were egregious! Bad. Bad. Bad.

  8. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

This series has not been Heath’s strongest, but I just can’t quit her. One clicked.
