  • Time’s Convert

    Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness

Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness is $1.99! I believe reading this is most beneficial if you’ve finished the All Souls Trilogy, though correct me if I’m wrong. If it’s the latter, Lara wrote a great post about why the series is such a favorite for her.

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches, a novel about what it takes to become a vampire.

On the battlefields of the American Revolution, Matthew de Clermont meets Marcus MacNeil, a young surgeon from Massachusetts, during a moment of political awakening when it seems that the world is on the brink of a brighter future. When Matthew offers him a chance at immortality and a new life free from the restraints of his puritanical upbringing, Marcus seizes the opportunity to become a vampire. But his transformation is not an easy one and the ancient traditions and responsibilities of the de Clermont family clash with Marcus’s deeply held beliefs in liberty, equality, and brotherhood.

Fast-forward to contemporary Paris, where Phoebe Taylor—the young employee at Sotheby’s whom Marcus has fallen for—is about to embark on her own journey to immortality. Though the modernized version of the process at first seems uncomplicated, the couple discovers that the challenges facing a human who wishes to be a vampire are no less formidable than they were in the eighteenth century. The shadows that Marcus believed he’d escaped centuries ago may return to haunt them both—forever.

A passionate love story and a fascinating exploration of the power of tradition and the possibilities not just for change but for revolution, Time’s Convert channels the supernatural world-building and slow-burning romance that made the All Souls Trilogy instant bestsellers to illuminate a new and vital moment in history, and a love affair that will bridge centuries.

  • The Duke’s Guide to Correct Behavior

The Duke’s Guide to Correct Behavior by Megan Frampton

The Duke’s Guide to Correct Behavior by Megan Frampton is $2.99. This is book one in the Dukes Behaving Badly series – do dukes behave otherwise? Maybe in some other genre. Readers who enjoyed it and left positive reviews mentioned the humor and the dialogue, and the nobleman/governess trope as among their favorites. However, others warn that the characters seemed more fitting of a modern setting.

All of London knows the Duke of Rutherford has position and wealth. They also whisper that he’s dissolute, devilish, and determinedly unwed. So why, everyone is asking, has he hired a governess?

When Miss Lily Russell crosses the threshold of the Duke of Rutherford’s stylish townhouse, she knows she has come face to face with sensual danger. For this is no doting papa. Rather, his behavior is scandalous, and his reputation rightly earned. And his pursuit of her is nearly irresistible—but resist she must for the sake of her pupil.

As for the duke himself, it was bad enough when his unknown child landed on his doorstep. Now Lily, with her unassuming beauty, has aroused his most wicked fantasies—and, shockingly, his desire to change his wanton ways. He’s determined to become worthy of her, and so he asks for her help in correcting his behavior.

But Lily has a secret, one that, if it becomes known, could change everything . . .

  • Heated Rivalry

    Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid

Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid is $1.99! This is a price-matched Kindle Daily Deal and is the second book in the Game Changers series. Shana recommended this one in our Enemies with Benefits Rec League:

Hockey arch-rivals who secretly bang every time they’re in the same city.

Nothing interferes with Shane Hollander’s game—definitely not the sexy rival he loves to hate.

Pro hockey star Shane Hollander isn’t just crazy talented, he’s got a spotless reputation. Hockey is his life. Now that he’s captain of the Montreal Voyageurs, he won’t let anything jeopardize that, especially the sexy Russian whose hard body keeps him awake at night.

Boston Bears captain Ilya Rozanov is everything Shane’s not. The self-proclaimed king of the ice, he’s as cocky as he is talented. No one can beat him—except Shane. They’ve made a career on their legendary rivalry, but when the skates come off, the heat between them is undeniable. When Ilya realizes he wants more than a few secret hookups, he knows he must walk away. The risk is too great.

As their attraction intensifies, they struggle to keep their relationship out of the public eye. If the truth comes out, it could ruin them both. But when their need for each other rivals their ambition on the ice, secrecy is no longer an option…

  • The Boneless Mercies

The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke

RECOMMENDED: The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke is $2.99! Carrie wrote a Lightning Review of this one and gave it an A:

I loved the mix of gritty and lyrical in the language and scenery, and the mix of compassion and ruthlessness on the part of the Mercies. This is a tough emotional read, but a satisfying and empowering one.

A dark standalone YA fantasy about a band of mercenary girls in search of female glory.

Frey, Ovie, Juniper, and Runa are the Boneless Mercies—girls hired to kill quickly, quietly, and mercifully. But Frey is weary of the death trade and, having been raised on the heroic sagas of her people, dreams of a bigger life.

When she hears of an unstoppable monster ravaging a nearby town, Frey decides this is the Mercies’ one chance out. The fame and fortune of bringing down such a beast would ensure a new future for all the Mercies. In fact, her actions may change the story arc of women everywhere.

HEATED RIVALRY was my favorite book of 2019. Highly recommended!

Also a KDD for $1.99 today: Candace Bushnell’s SEX AND THE CITY. These are the original stories that were used as the basis for the tv show.

  2. Amazon has a bundle of the Amerlough Trilogy by Lara Elena Donnelly for $2.99. As the trilogy individually is $23.98, this is a good buy, even if you already bought the first one as a deal earlier in the year.

  3. Jennifer in FL says:

I don’t think you’ll find TIME’S CONVERT nearly as interesting if you haven’t read the original trilogy. It will make sense for the most part, but you’ll lose a lot of the background. FWIW, I love the original series and was slightly disappointed in this book. Marcus and Phoebe are some of my favorite characters, but Marcus’ backstory was just boring at time. (The Phoebe parts of the books were MUCH better.)

  4. Jennifer in FL says:

Also FYI- I’ve also heard that they changed narrators for audiobook of TIME’S CONVERT and she’s not nearly as good as Jennifer Ikeda (who is FABULOUS in the original serie).

  5. JudyW says:

I’m also throwing my rec out there for HEATED RIVALRY. You cannot go wrong with that price either. If you like m/m books at all you need to snap this up.

  6. cleo says:

I’m definitely in the minority but I heartily disliked Heated Rivalry and I’m a big fan of m/m romance. Too much hate sex and not enough character development for my taste. Read the sample first and the GR reviews.

  7. FashionablyEvil says:

I was sure that I read Heated Rivalry, and the details are close (m/m hockey romance) but they’re both trying to be the captain? starting goalie?.) Maybe I should just submit to HaBO…

  8. Kate says:

@FashionablyEvil It’s probably Goalie Interference by Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn

  9. Argie says:

@FashionablyEvil – if you are thinking of competing goalies on the same team, you might be thinking of Goalie Interference by Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn.

  10. FashionablyEvil says:

    Thanks @Kate and @Argie! That’s the one.

  11. Rae says:

Also check out Audible’s new Plus menu. Regular subscribers now get free access to hundreds of audio books. I saw several Lady Sherlock novels by Sherry Thomas.

  12. Julia F says:

Man Card by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby is now free on Kindle. It’s Book 2 in the Man Hands quadrology and was really fun and funny.

  13. Escapeologist says:

@Julia thank you, I was looking at that one just the other day! sounds really fun!

  14. Maureen says:

Since yesterday I’ve read Rachel Reid’s Game Changer, Heated Rivalry and I’m now reading Tough Guy. As you can guess, I like her writing!! A new to me author and I’ve already pre-ordered the next book in the series. Game Changer had me at the first paragraph. The books are very heartfelt and to me sweet-don’t get me wrong, plenty of sex-but there is the core of caring that makes them endearing. I will say I never thought Heated Rivalry had hate sex in it-more two men who couldn’t quite define the attraction between them. Just my own opinion! I loved Shane and Ilya together-and I think the author will be coming out with another book that continues their romance and gives them a more definitive ending. Not to say Heated Rivalry didn’t have a great ending, but I was reading Reid’s blog, and more is in store!

  15. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Maureen: Totally agree that the sex between Shane & Ilya in HEATED RIVALRY is not “hate fucking.” Shane especially is baffled by his feelings, Ilya is far more self-aware; and I thought Reid did such a great job of showing the subtle ways they start revealing their feelings to each other over the course of ten years. Reid’s COMMON GOAL, where one hero is a retired hockey player and the other is a grad student (so, age-gap trope), is due September 21. I have the date circled on my calendar!
